Somizi Says South African Women Are Safer With Lions Than With Men
Somizi continues to defend South Africa's outrageous rate of gender-based violence.
The media personality took his Instagram recently to write about the femicide rate in the country, saying that South African women are safer in hunting parks with wild animals than with men on the streets or at home. And this comes on the anniversary of the death of 19-year-old Uyinene Mrwetyana, who was raped and killed at a post office in Cape Town.
“A woman in SA is safer in the Kruger Park among lions and snakes, than at home or in the streets,” he shared on his Instagram, and many women agree with him.

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex is using her voice to talk about the importance of voting, while sitting down with activist Gloria Steinem for a conversation about women's rights and representation.
The two icons sat down for a "historic chat in the backyard" to "discuss representation, why every vote matters and how all women 'are linked, unclassified'.
The Duchess of Sussex seemed overwhelmed by emotion in dots during her "backyard chat" with Gloria being filmed for Makers Women, a platform for women's empowerment. "This is a great day for me," she tells the activist, after asking her opinions about the upcoming elections and what it means for young women to go out and vote.
Talk about the importance of women, especially the younger generation who vote in the next election.
“People forget how hard women like you and so many others before you fought for us to just be where we are right now,” Meghan said. “If you don’t vote, you don’t exist,” Steinem replied as Meghan nodded in agreement. “It is the only place we’re all equal, the voting booth.”
What worries me the most are young people, who I understand are the least likely to vote and I can understand the feeling that they don’t think they have an impact,” Steinem said. “Yet, it’s more important for them to vote than anyone else because they’re going to be alive long after I am, and they’re going to be suffering the consequences.”
“Do you feel hopeful?” Meghan asked.
Steinem replied, “I do feel hopeful.”

Gloria Steinem: Welcome home. I’m so glad that you’re home! Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex: Me too. For so many reasons. We’ve talked a lot these last few weeks. I keep thinking my goodness — I’ve looked up to you for so long! It’s wonderful to just be in your company, to learn so much and to feel inspired to be home. But also to help people remember why it’s so important to vote. G: Really, we’ve been rescued by women of color in all of our recent elections because of a vote of conscience and compassion. The heart of the Democratic party has been Black women, actually, and now there is a potential Vice President who is Black and that’s exciting. M: I’m so excited to see that kind of representation. You know, for me, being biracial, growing up, whether it was a doll or a person in the office, you need to see someone who looks like you in some capacity. As many of us believe, you can only be what you can see. And in the absence of that, how can you aspire to something greater than what you see in your own world? I think maybe now we’re starting to break-through in a different way. Do you feel hopeful? G: Oh yes, I do feel hopeful. We still require an adjective, if you know what I mean. There are ‘doctors’ and ‘women doctors’ and ‘Black women doctors’ and ‘Hispanic doctors’ … the noun still tends to be confined to the ruling group. But we’ll get past that. M: You know it’s so interesting. I was reading this book called Algorithms of Oppression by Safiya Noble and it talks about how the digital space really shapes our thinking about race. For example, it wasn’t that long ago that when you’d start to type in a search engine ‘why are white women…’ it would start to autofill with words like ‘so pretty’ or ‘so beautiful.’ And then when you would type ‘why are black women…’ it would autofill with words like ‘so angry’ or ‘so loud.’ You get to see how our minds are being shaped by something so much bigger than what we’re actually feeling or putting out there. G: That’s terrible isn’t it? In a way, the computer age has made it clear by listing it so we can fight it more easily. … I wonder if the COVID-19 disaster — which is an unmitigated suffering and very unequal suffering, I must say — is teaching us something because it doesn’t recognize race, gender or nationality. It sees human beings as human beings. And perhaps we’re beginning to see that too. M: On top of that, it’s just giving everyone this moment of reset; to reevaluate what actually matters. I think it’s often forgotten how women like you and so many others before you fought for us to just be where we are right now.

Former Girls Aloud Bandmate, Sarah Harding Shares News of Advanced Breast Cancer
Sarah Harding has revealed that she is suffering from breast cancer.
The singer shared the news of the disease which is now in its advanced stage as it has spread to other parts of her body, via her social media accounts.
Sarah Harding who is currently undergoing weekly chemotherapy, posted a photo from her hospital bed as she revealed the news of her diagnosis in the caption.
She wrote;
“Hi everyone, I hope you are all keeping safe and well during these uncertain times. I’ve not posted on here for so long, thank you to everyone who has reached out to check in on me, it really does mean a lot. I feel now is the right time to share what’s been going on. “There’s no easy way to say this and actually it doesn’t even feel real writing this, but here goes. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and a couple of weeks ago I received the devastating news that the cancer has advanced to other parts of my body. “I’m currently undergoing weekly chemotherapy sessions and I am fighting as hard as I possibly can. I understand this might be shocking to read on social media and that really isn’t my intention.’ “But last week it was mentioned online that I had been seen in hospital, so I feel now is the time to let people know what’s going on and this is the best way I can think of to do so.’ “My amazing mum, family and close friends are helping me through this, and I want to say a thank you to the wonderful NHS doctors and nurses who have been and continue to be heroes. I am doing my very best to keep positive and will keep you updated here with how I’m getting on. “In the meantime, I hope you’ll all understand and respect my request for privacy during this difficult time. Sending you all so much love….xx.’

Nigerian defrauds 2 US women of $300,000 in romance scam
A Nigerian man has pleaded guilty in connection with scams that federal authorities say cost him more than $300,000 to two Kentucky women.
Ismaila Fafunmi pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of participating in a money laundering conspiracy.]
Fafunmi admitted that he worked with other people to trick women with money through various methods, including so-called romantic scams, according to his guilt agreement.
One of the victims was a Kentucky woman, not named in court records, who joined an online dating site in June 2018.
Fafunmi, who lived in Speedway, Ind., part of Indianapolis, contacted the woman through the site and cheated on her into believing they were in a relationship, according to court records.
Fafunmi pleaded guilty in federal court Friday before U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell for money laundering charges related to romantic fraud and a subsidy fraud scheme.
According to his plea agreement, Fafunmi admitted that as of June 2018, he worked together with others, who communicated via online chats, about a plan to defraud U.S. citizens through a romance scheme.
In developing this scheme, Fafunmi and his co-conspirators would establish false profiles on dating websites that profile American men, often military men.

Nigerian Senate probes NTA-StarTimes after no profit in 12 years

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the upper house on Monday had consulted the NTA's management, why the company is not making a profit after 12 years.
The Senate requested that management appear before the committee along with NTA TV Enterprises Managing Director Maxwell Loko.
The joint venture agreement was that everything that accrued at the end of each financial year, 70 per cent, goes to StarTimes and 30 per cent to Nigeria.

Remember “Bootz” from “Flavor of Love” and VH1’s “Charm School .She cause buzz on these streets of the internet after she says Mo'Nique had blacklisted her.
Bootz, real name Larissa Hodge, was a guest on the "Talk of Love" podcast, hosted by Lacey Sculls.
She recalled a celebrity event she wanted to attend, but her publicist told her her couldn't go because Mo'Nique said she wouldn't attend if Bootz was there.
There was a particular situation where my publicist told me there was a celebrity spa day thing and I wanted to go.
But, she said, ‘Oh, we have a problem.’ I was like, ‘What?’ So, my publicist was like, ‘Yeah, Mo’Nique said if you go, she’s not going.’
Because Mo’Nique was a bigger actress at the time, of course, they’re going to pick her. So, I couldn’t go to the event. So, she basically blacklisted me.
People ask me now what I think about what’s going on with her? I think that that’s karma because you been blacklisting people. It’s not just me. There’s people that she’s done things to because she thought because she won that Oscar, ‘oh, I’m on top!’

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Son Adam Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Neighbor

Complex reports that Adam Abdul-Jabbar, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's son, has been charged with multiple offences for allegedly stabbing his neighbor with a knife in June.
According to the departure, Adam will be charged in court in September, and if given the maximum penalty, he could spend 9 years and 8 months behind bars.

A lot of people thought this was funny, but the DJ found it offensive. “Yeka Mina, wash yourself, start with your heart,” he said in response to the post.
But the troll wasn’t faze by this. “Your being emotional manje,” he wrote, and the DJ did not oblige this with another response.

According to Entertainment Tonight, the actress filed to represent herself instead of an attorney after her former attorney, Marina Zakiyan Beck, signed off on the change on July 30. Berry signed off on August 11.
Meanwhile, Martinez is being represented by attorney Laura Wasser.
Berry filed for divorce from Martinez after two years of marriage in 2015, and shortly after, the duo, who share a son together, released a joint statement saying:
“It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce,” they said. “We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son. Trump's release of his 2nd-term agenda is ahead of the GOP National Convention on Monday, August 24 at night, and comes after Trump has had repeated difficulty detailing what his second term might look like, which has left critics questioning whether he even had an agenda.
The campaign team, and Trump himself, plan to promote this agenda throughout the convention that will continue throughout this week.
A key criticism of the Democratic National Convention last week is that the Biden campaign did not substantively defied the policies Joe Biden would implement if the president prefers to focus on Biden's character.
No Tariff Increase, Buhari Ordered Mass Metering – NERC

The President, Buhari (retd.), has ordered operators in the power sector to carry out mass metering of unmetered customers nationwide, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission announced on Wednesday night.
In a tweet via its official Twitter handle, the NERC also declared that it had not approved any increase in electricity tariffs, as reported in some quarters on Wednesday.
The commission said, “The President has directed that there should be a nationwide mass-metering programme in an effort by the Federal Government to put a stop to estimated and arbitrary billing for electricity.
“He has also approved a waiver of the import levy on meters so that those that do not have meters can be supplied as early as possible at reasonable costs.”

In her 25-minute speech outside the White House, she made the case that Trump is determined to work hard to improve the country in a second term. She spoke on 2 of the biggest political crises her husband faces as he campaigns for a second term, the coronavirus pandemic and protests against police brutality and racial discrimination.
Expressing sympathy for people who lost their loved ones to COVID-19 or are suffering from the virus, he acknowledged that "many people are anxious."
She urged Americans to unite, to reflect on racism and learn from it, without launching recent protests in overtly political terms “It is a harsh reality that we are not proud of parts of our history,” Melania Trump said. “Stop the violence and looting being done in the name ofjustice.”
