Ekiti State First Lady presses for castration and psychiatric evaluation of rapists in the state

The Ekiti State First Lady, Mrs Bisi Fayemi is pressing for an amendment of the law so that rapists in Ekiti state will be punished with medical castration.

In addition to a life sentence, the Ekiti State Government, in collaboration with the office of Wife of the Governor, push to amend the gender-based law to see that rapists get a more severe sentence. This is in a bid to deter offenders.

According to  Mrs Bisi Fayemi, is seeking amendment of the Gender-Based Violence (Prohibition) Law, 2011 at the State House of Assembly.

Liberia shuts down radio station for criticizing President George Weah

A radio station in Liberia, Roots FM was closed by the country's government for criticizing President George Weah . 
 
The radio station owned by Henry Costa who is one of the leaders of a group that organized a large anti-government street protest that cause traffic by the seaside capital Monrovia on June 17, was accused of inciting violence. Armed police riot unit which ringed the radio station building on Thursday morning, making it impossible for workers to move in and out also fired teargas on fans of the radio station.

Uganda announces 'Kill the Gays' bill that will bring in the death penalty for homosexuals

The Ugandan government has announced plans to reintroduce a bill that would bring in the death penalty for homosexuals in the East African country. 5 years ago,  the 'Kill the Gays' bill was nullified on a technicality because it includes the death penalty, but the government has now revealed plans to reintroduce it within weeks.

In a statement by  Ethics and Integrity Minister Simon Lokodo, he said: 'Homosexuality is not natural to Ugandans, but there has been a massive recruitment by gay people in schools, and especially among the youth, where they are promoting the falsehood that people are born like that

Nigeria's Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed  announced that online news platforms will now be regulated as he inaugurated a 7 man committee to implement reforms in the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Members of the committee whose job description centers on implementing reforms in the NBC include;  Armstrong Idachaba, NBC director of monitoring (chairman); Godfrey Ohuabunwa, acting chairman of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON); J.K. Ehicheoya, director, legal services, ministry of information and culture; Binta Adamu Bello, secretary, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON); Ibrahim Jimoh, director of administration, FRCN; Agbo Kingsley Ndubuisi, NBC board member and Joe Mutah, chief press secretary, ministry of information and culture (secretary).

The Oscar-winning actress, who has starred in movies such as Black Panther and 12 Years a Slave,  was raised in Kenya before moving to the United States.
 She spoke with BBC Newsnight ahead of the release of her children's book, Sulwe, about a girl with darker skin than her family.
 Lupita told Newsnight's Emily Maitlis: "I definitely grew up feeling uncomfortable with my skin colour because I felt like the world around me awarded lighter skin."

She said her younger sister, whose skin was lighter, was called "beautiful" and "pretty".
