Duro Oluwu decorates the White House for 2015 #Christmas celebrations

Nigerian-born fashion designer, Duro Oluwu, was enlisted by the 1st Lady of the United States of America to decorate the white house in preparation for the 2015 Christmas celebrations. He and other fashion designers like Carolina Herrera, Humberto Leon, Carol Lim and Kenzo were brought in to decorate White House’s China Room, Vermeil Room and library for the holiday season.



Olowu decorated the Vermeil roomusing two 8-foot Christmas trees draped with vintage fabrics, ribbons and encrusted tinsel to spruce up the space, which is sometimes used as a sitting room.

Olowu’s eight-foot trees, original teddy bears, and encrusted ornaments.

Born to a Nigerian father and Jamaican mother, Duro was raised in Lagos, spending his childhood travelling between Nigeria and different cities in Europe. His wife, Thelma Golden is the Director and Chief Curator of the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York.

He studied law in London before returning to Nigeria to practice for a few years. Here he developed an interest in fashion, becoming inspired by the mixture of colors and rich textures of clothing worn by the people around him. In October 2004, he launched his first women’s wear label with a collection for Spring/Summer 2005.

Confession:Ngozi Iweala confesses that she approved the illegal diversion of N61bn #Abacha’s loot

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the former Minister of Finance has confessed that she  illegally approved the transfer of at least N61.4 bn ($300m and £5.5m) from funds recovered from late dictator, Sani Abacha, to the Office of the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, few weeks to the 2015 presidential election.



Okonjo-Iweala insisted that the N61.4 bn was solely for the purpose of prosecuting the war against Boko Haram. She said the disbursement was done with the full approval of the former President, Jonathan, based on the recommendations of a presidential committee.

This is coming few weeks after GEJ denied authorizing the disbursement of any money. This latest disclosure appears to have vindicated Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, who last week called for the prosecution of Okonjo-Iweala for transferring funds that were not appropriated.

Oshiomhole stated that neither the president nor the minister has power to unilaterally transfer funds that were not appropriated by the National Assembly. He argued that both of them should be charged alongside Dasuki, Dokpesi and Bafawara for allegedly misappropriating funds meant for arms procurement…

Senate Confirms Babatunde Fowler As FIRS Chairman

The Senate  confirmed Babatunde Fowler as chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS.The new FIRS boss was the executive chairman of the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue from 2005 to 2014. He had his higher education in the United States where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Business Administration degree from the California State University.
Mr. Fowler was appointed acting chairman of the agency by President Muhammadu Buhari on August 20 to replace Samuel Odugbesan, a former coordinating director at the agency, who was appointed to the position by former President Goodluck Jonathan in March this year.

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the launch of the Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015. Lagos has always taken the lead in Legislation and Law Reform initiatives in the Nigerian Federation.

The need for legislation to be up to date and relevant cannot be over-emphasized in ensuring the necessary legal infrastructure for socioeconomic transformation. Lagos as the commercial capital of Nigeria faces enormous challenges in ensuring the security and economic well-being of its residents.

The publication of the 2015 Laws of the State, marks the beginning of the process of continually making the Laws accessible to the general public not only in Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole, but also beyond its borders globally.

The State Government has resolved to also make the Laws of Lagos State available online and accessible from any part of the world.

To this end, Lagos State Law Reform Commission is at an advanced stage of developing an online platform for accessing the Laws of the State and downloading such laws. The online platform will also provide access to all the Laws that have operated in the State since inception in 1967. This will fulfill the obligation of the Lagos State Government to create easy access to the Laws of Lagos, thereby promoting a platform for accountability and responsibility.

More importantly, creating an online access to the Laws of Lagos State will be of a great service and benefit to investors and would-be investors in the State. Not only will such a platform enable investors to make informed decisions about investing in the State, but it will also help them to appreciate the various legal protections available for their persons and investment.

Furthermore, the publication of the Laws of Lagos State is a step in the direction of the justice and security sector reforms which the present administration promised it will pursue in order to strengthen the rule of law in Lagos State.

The publication of the 2015 Edition would not have been possible without the cooperation and hard work of the Lagos State House of Assembly for passing the laws contained in the compilation. The passage of the Laws by the State House of Assembly attests to the fact that it is the most active and vibrant legislative body in the whole of Nigeria. We cannot also but commend Lagos State Law Reform Commission for the initiative and effort resulting in the publication of the Laws of Lagos State 2015.
