NASA Postpones Launch Of Spacecraft To ‘Touch Sun’

NASA has postponed until Sunday the launch of its US$1.5 billion (S$2 billion) unmanned Parker Solar Probe, to allow engineers more time to investigate a red flag that was raised in the last moment before lift-off.

The problem had to do with the gaseous helium pressure alarm on the spacecraft, officials said today (August 11). The next launch window opens on Sunday.

The first ever spacecraft to fly directly toward the Sun was poised to blast off Saturday, on a mission to plunge into our star’s sizzling atmosphere and unlock the mysteries of the centre of the solar system.


NASA’s car-sized probe was scheduled to launch on a Delta IV Heavy rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida during a 65-minute launch window that opened at 3.33am.

By coming closer to the Sun than any spacecraft in history, the unmanned probe’s main goal is to unveil the secrets of the corona, the unusual atmosphere around the Sun. “We are going to be in an area that is so exciting, where solar wind – we believe – will be accelerating,” said NASA planetary science division director Jim Green.

“Where we see huge magnetic fields that are passing by us, as coronal mass ejections make their way out into the solar system.”

Not only is the corona about 300 times hotter than the Sun’s surface, but it also hurls powerful plasma and energetic particles that can unleash geomagnetic space storms, wreaking havoc on Earth by disrupting the power grid.

But these solar outbursts are poorly understood.

“The Parker Solar Probe will help us do a much better job of predicting when a disturbance in the solar wind could hit Earth,” said Justin Kasper, a project scientist and professor at the University of Michigan.

Tuchel hails Neymar leadership ability

 

 

PSG coach Thomas Tuchel has praised the leadership qualities of Brazil poster boy, Neymar.

The former Barcelona star came under fire for his theatrics at the 2018 FIFA world cup in Russia.
Tuchel who replaced Unai Emery at the end of the season stressed the importance of Neymar to the team.

“It’s completely clear that Neymar is my key player, as he is one of the best in the world and he is an artist,” Tuchel
said at his pre-match press conference.

“There are several different ways to be a leader.

 

“In Neymar ‘s case, he is one when he is happy, though his creativity, his way of inspiring others and the risks that he takes.”

That said, Tuchel is keen for other players to take responsibility too.

“There isn’t just one leader, as we have lots of shoulders to carry the team on,” he said.

“Neymar is one of the leaders.”

Why a lot of Nigerian artistes are into Yahoo Yahoo – Singer Weflo

 

 

 Weflo has explained why most music artistes in the country are engaging in Yahoo Yahoo fraud. While speaking in an interview with reporters at an event in Lagos about his newly released video, “Ise” shot by top Director Paul Gambit, Weflo lamented that the Nigerian environment is not conducive for upcoming talents because the cost of establishing your musical talent is almost like the cost of going into an oil and gas business.

“The Nigerian music industry is not for a poor person, and this is not to discourage any upcoming artiste from coming into the industry, but the truth is that if you as an upcoming artiste doesn’t have anyone backing you financially, you will be depending on only fate to even get attention. Studio fees alone will not allow you to beable to express all your talent. It will restrict you from doing as many songs as you want. Your hit song is probably among the ones you haven’t yet have money to record. When time comes to promote the audio, the media will cut your neck and you may eventually not beable to promote the song.

” Don’t even let me start with video directors. Sometimes to get a standard video shoot at 1millin Naira, you have to beg directors. Don’t also talk about DJs, radio stations and Alaba mix and so on.This is why for every 20 successful artistes making waves, there are probably more than 200 thousand others looking up to God for studio fees. That is why a lot of artistes are into Yahoo and all sorts of means to raise money. It’s not in my place to judge anyone, because we are all responsible for our actions at the end of the day. So if you find an upcoming artistes who is shooting all types of internationally standard videos and spends so much promoting them, then money comes from either one of the aforementioned means; not to deny that there are occasional exceptions where the song just go viral without any major effort. In my case though, i have been lucky to have the full support of my parents financially and in all ramifications.” Weflo stated.

Explaining further, Weflo says “You might want to ask, can’t an artiste get a part time job and save up for his music career? The truth is, like i said earlier, the type of capital you need to succeed in the music business is not the type you use starting a small scale business. You need millions to run it. If you start small, fine!; but 9 out of 10 times you will not break through until you find a sponsor. Maybe if you earn a 7-figure salary, but how many youths in Nigeria earn a 7-figure salary? The few that do are most likely not into music.”

Weflo however advised that the best way forward is for banks, government and corporate bodies to support the industry.

“We are in an era where music videos reach 100million views on Youtube, I dream of an industry where a brand for instance can take up the bill of an artiste’s musical video shoot in exchange for a feature of their product or service in the video. My mother prostrated herself on the floor, begged me to quit music –Dayo Kujore

 

For veteran juju musician, Dayo Kujore , in a chat with Saturday Beats, the juju singer said that when he ventured into music , his parents were so uncertain about how his life would pan out that his mother had to prostrate on the floor begging him to quit music for another profession .
“My father died when I was quite young , so I have more memories of my mother . However , she was not pleased with the development . I remember a day when my mother prostrated on the floor holding my leg that I should not go out to perform. She said that if it was a church programme , it would have been better but I was going to perform at a juju gig . She really did not have a choice because my music was not hindering my other activities like school and house chores. I was able to combine everything . I got so popular to the point that when some of those bands needed a guitarist to play for them in Lagos , I was the one they called to perform with them . I would leave my village as young as I was to play different gigs in Lagos . It was during one of those performances that some top shots in the juju scene in Lagos watched me perform and they invited me to join their band . I later joined S. A Oni ’ s band because they noticed that I am talented . I toured different parts of Lagos with them till I met the likes of Prince Adekunle . I was with Prince Adekunle for a while till some of his band members left to form their own group. Initially , I was just a guitarist but at the time but one day when I went with a musician for a performance , the man did not mount the stage on time and this angered the crowd . Soon their patience grew thin and they began to throw stones at the stage . I was the smallest amongst the band members but they were all confused , so I mounted the stage and started playing my guitar , soon after I began to sing, that was the first day I ever sang in front of a crowd in my life . When the musician later mounted the stage , the crowd began to request for me that they loved my style of singing. It was not until that incident happened that I realised I could sing. Prior to that day , I was only an instrumentalist . Initially , I was a very shy person but as I held that microphone , the yoke broke. I never knew I was that brave but I think I got courageous because I did not want the crowd to get belligerent , ” he said.

The singer said that to allay his mother ’ s fears , he ensured he became a success in his career , eventually , his mother was happy for him . “She was very happy for me . There was a day I was playing and I invited her to the stage ; she was so happy that day and it was very obvious . GTBank Releases H1 2018 Audited Results, Reports Profit Before Tax Of ₦109.6 Billion

 

 

Guaranty Trust Bank plc has released its audited financial results for the period ended June 30, 2018 to the Nigerian and London Stock Exchanges.

A review of the results shows positive performance across all financial indices, reaffirming the Bank’s position as one of the most profitable and well managed financial institutions in Nigeria. Gross earnings for the period grew by 5.9% to ₦226.6billion from ₦214.1billion reported in June 2017.
Profit before tax stood at ₦109.6billion, representing a growth of 8.4% over ₦101.1billion recorded in the corresponding period of June 2017.The Bank’s Loan Book dipped by 10.8% from ₦1.449trillion recorded as at December 2017 to ₦1.293trillion in June 2018, while customers’ deposit grew by 10.0% to ₦2.269trillion from ₦2.062trillion in December 2017.

The Bank’s balance sheet remained strong with a 5.9% growth in Total assets as the Bank closed the period ended June 2018 with Total Assets of ₦3.549trillion and Shareholders’ Funds of ₦497.1Billion. In terms of Assets quality, NPL ratio improved to 5.8% in June 2018 from 7.7% in December 2017.

Overall, Asset quality improved with Cost of Risk of 0.1% and adequate coverage of 167.5% for Lifetime Credit Impaired Loans i.e. NPLs. Capital remains strong with CAR of 22.04% in spite of the implementation of IFRS 9. On the backdrop of this result, Post- Tax Return on Equity (ROAE) and Return on Assets (ROAA) closed at 34.1% and 5.5% respectively.

Commenting on the financial results, the Managing Director/CEO of Guaranty Trust Bank plc, Mr. Segun Agbaje, said; “In spite of declining yields and the challenges in the operating environment, we have delivered a decent half year result. The quality of this result is built on the strength of our businesses as well as the success of our digital-first customer-centric strategy in delivering financial services that are simpler, cheaper and more valuable to our customers’ everyday lives.”

Alibaba Writes Narrates How The Goverment Disapproved His Request Of Making A Recreation Spot On The Island Close To 3rd Mainland Bridge

Few years back, there was two islands pretty close to 3rd mainland bridge.
We used to watch from the bridge whenever we passes through.
One is totally gone and the other is almost gone too.
Veteran comedian, Alibaba took to social media to write on how he proposed a recreation spot on the island and the government never approve it.

It had about 100sqmtr left. About 2015, the island subsequently disappeared. It’s still under the water there now but just as a high ground. Tiwa Savage not happy as Tekno and Ciara’s rip off her song

 

Ciara announced a collaboration with the MMMG signed Tekno titled ‘Freak Me ’

Upon the release of the song, a large number of fans were quick to point out the striking similarities between the new song ‘ Freak Me’ and a song on Tiwa Savage’s 2015 album RED titled ‘ Before Nko’.
Tiwa Savage who apparently got wind of the reports is vehemently angry about the situation

Cici excitedly shared the artwork for the single, while Tekno refrained from doing so and the reason behind his silence cannot be far fetched as an unnamed member of Tiwa Savage’s camp revealed that Tekno is someone Tiwa Savage she considered a friendly colleague; not in the least because they both are Pepsi ambassadors and know each other well.

‘We were surprised that they went that route. They didn’t even just sample some strings, the beat and lyrics of the hook are basically the same. Tiwa is extremely upset because it seems like a rip off of her sweat.’

Asked if there were any enquiries from the Ubi Franklin led MMMG, the answer was negative. ‘They didn’t ask or inform us before the song was made. As a matter of fact, we reached out to them when we heard the song but they didn’t do us the courtesy of even responding. This is not how to do things. Tekno himself is not sharing links to the song as much as his boss Ubi is. This is wrong‘,

He added too that ‘It may not have been in Ciara’s place to know that the song belonged to someone else but the onus was on Tekno as the featured act and producer (who we believe gave the song to her anyway) to inform her.’
On our part, we contacted Ubi Franklin before filing this report. Calls were not answered and text messages sent to him were not replied at the time of publishing this.

DPrince ) was listed as one of the composers on streaming sites such as TIDAL, she believes that does not suffice as ‘permission’.


It is the second time this year that Tekno would be accused of song theft.
In May, the duo of Mountain Black and Med Melon called him out for appropriating their early 2000’s hit Jogodo . Tekno did not deny the charge but soon after was seen with the singers in an apparent reconciliatory mode.


It may be recalled that he was also criticized for interpolating parts of 50cent’s In Da Club in his Go single.

Puerto Rican rapper, Daddy Yankee Robbed of $2M In Jewelry In Spain

Daddy Yankee was reportedly robbed of $2.3-million worth of jewels after a man posing as him, instructed hotel staff to open the room’s safe for him.

The robbery which occurred at a hotel in Spain was confirmed by the artist’s press office in a tweet Thursday.
“The press office @daddy_yankee confirms that the artist has been a victim of robbery while he was outside his hotel in Valencia, Spain. A law firm has already been hired and no further declarations will be given so as not to hinder the investigation in any way,” the translated tweet read.

The BCC reported that a man posing as Daddy Yankee instructed staff at the Meliá Valencia Hotel, where the real Daddy Yankee was staying to open the room’s safe.
The rapper reportedly discovered the missing jewels Tuesday night and contacted authorities.

According to the report, 2 rooms were robbed one with the safe containing the jewels and the other with thousands of dollars in cash.

You disappeared from the stage for so long and now just gaining your entry back. What do you have to say to that?
My disappearance, as you said, was to study the type of sound being made everywhere so I can fix myself in it without deviating from my real self. That’s just it.

You were being too diplomatic speaking up when a big fight broke out between Tuface and Black Face. Was that your way of not wanting to be accused of taking to any side, even when you claimed you know the whole truth about the matter?

Sorry, I don’t have any comment on that.

Does it bother you that you are not as rich as some musicians who were in the same rank with you, back in the days of Plantashun Boiz?

No, that doesn’t bother me one bit. Why should it?
If you have your way, would you wish Plantashun Boiz come back to the scene?
Pardon me. I also won’t like to make any comment on that.

Which of your songs would you say fans have identified with the most?

Really, the Nigerian fans are flexible about choice. I can’t choose for them. They should be in the best position to decide which of my songs has appealed to them the most. I can’t make that judgement by myself.

What are you currently working on?

I am releasing my singles soon with the videos, and like I did my ‘Faze and Friends Concert’ in Abuja,
I am doing more in other places and then the grand finale in Lagos. That is when the album titled, 2000 and Faze (Away and Back) would be released.

What is your definition of a successful music career?

A successful music career is when people look up to you and your songs and confess how they have made impacts on people’s lives. You actually teach and preach through your songs for your impact to be felt.

Diamond Platnumz’s daughter Princess Tiffah celebrated her birthday on 6th August. Diamond gave his daughter’s birthday a wide berth despite offering to fly 40 people to South Africa to attend the birthday.

 Diamond skipped Tiffah’s birthday because Zari threatened to boycott if Wema attended. The singer had invited Wema to Tiffah’s birthday.

NYSC Reacts To Members Allowance Increase From N19,800 To N48,900

All Progressive Congress announced that President Muhammdu Buhari has raised NYSC allowance to N49,800.
This writer, however, tweeted at NYSC to confirm the credibility of the APC Newspaper’s tweet about the allowance increase and @officialnysc replied saying it is a rumour.
Shortly after responding to the tweet that asked the agency to clear the air on the rumour @officialnysc immediately deleted the tweet.
Silverbirdng.com also spoke NYSC official in Edo State about the rumoured allowance increase. The official who prefers to be anonymous however said he is not in the best position to confirm the increase in corps member allowance.
Recall that the Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Suleiman Kazaure recently has reportedly said the Federal Government has already started the review of the NYSC corps members’ allowance.
The DG also said that the Presidency also copied the Ministry of Finance in the letter.
Kazaure announced this on Thursday, August 2, 2018, during a tour of the NYSC orientation camp in Abuja.

Olakunle Churchill Arrests Online Saboteur After Financial Assistance

Dr. Churchill Olakunle, the chairman of Big Church Group of companies has effected the arrest of an online blogger (name withheld) who was among the saboteurs that discredit his name and image on social media.

Olakunle Churchill arrested the online saboteur, after giving her a hundred dollar at the airport.

The popular entrepreneur has just returned from the UK, after a long time away, and was accosted at the airport by a young lady who was in tears after missing her flight and stranded.

She looked pitiful and Olakunle was affectionate, so he was said to have extended his hands of love by giving the lady a 100 dollar so as to resolve her little financial problems. Unfortunately, he was ridiculously amazed when she began her confession as one of the online saboteurs who was paid to make negative comments and trend them on several online media platforms anytime there was a post on Churchill or his events.

 The lady confessed that, she was paid N10,000 every month and that they were 25 people with 5 different fake accounts each and the ring leader of the group is a Ghanaian but London based blogger called “cutie”.

She opened up that they have been reacting to online discussions; post false stories and makeup fake propaganda comments to libel the reputation of Olakunle Churchill. She explained how they all have created scam accounts on online blogs, Instagram, facebook and other social media platforms with selected online warriors.

Churchill who turned his surprise to fury expressed dissatisfaction to such frivolous activities that portrays deception on the media. LAUTECH Lecturers Begin 2-week Warning Strike

The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso chapter,commenced a two-week warning strike.
They alleged poor funding of the institution owned by Oyo and Osun State governments.
The union, in a statement after its congress, signed by its chairman, Biodun Olaniran and the secretary, Toyin Abegunrin, said the strike was approved by its national body.
The statement read in part: “On 13th February, 2018, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) LAUTECH Branch Ogbomoso signed a Memorandum of Action (MoA) with the Governing Council (GC) of the University.

 Koker has quietly parted ways with the MI Abaga led record company.

Koker’s exit from the label became obvious a few days ago when he dropped his latest song ‘Daddy’ featuring Falz under his own ‘Koke Boy’ imprint as against the usual Choc Boy imprint. All information about Chocolate City on his social media handles have also changed to his ‘Koke Boy’ movement.
Back in November 2017 when news filtered that Koker may be leaving the label, he told Punchng that, ‘does it look like I’m not with them anymore? There is no truth to any rumour whatsoever. My selling point is simply about me being myself”.
Though Koker and Chocolate City are yet to officially speak on his departure from the label, It has been confirmed that Koker has indeed moved on but maintains a good relationship with the label and his new EP scheduled to drop later this month features MI Abaga will be released under his ‘Koke Boy’ imprint.

Barcelona Sign Senegal Star Moussa Wague For £4.5million And Insert A Staggering £90m Release Clause In His Contract

Barcelona have signed Senegal international Moussa Wague from Belgian side KAS Eupen for £4.5million, and to fend off interest in the future for the star they inserted a sensational £90m release clause in his contract.

South African Rapper AKA Is Ungrateful — Reggie Rockstone

 AKA lamented over, why he has 3.4 million followers on his Twitter page yet, cannot make 3.4 million sales each time he drops an album.
The South African rapper said this during an exclusive interview with Sammy Forson on Joy FM’s Cosmopolitan Mix Show.
Furthermore, he stated that
In South Africa and all over the world, record sales are not what they used to be, so I’m thinking if I’ve got 3.4 million fans, why don’t I have 3.4 million albums sold.”

However, Ghanaian rapper and a member of VVIP singing group, Reggie Rockstone commented on AKA’s statement. He called him ungrateful.

According to Reggie, the South African rapper should rather appreciate the little loyal fans who have contributed a lot to his career rather than slamming them on social media. Rockstone spoke about this on Joy Fm.

Rihanna To Receive An Honorary Degree From the University of the West Indies

Rihanna will be receiving an honorary degree from the University of the West Indies (UWI)
The singer and entrepreneur will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters given to persons “who made substantial contributions to the Caribbean and the wider world” at a ceremony scheduled for October 20 at the Cave Hill Campus. 
The 30-year-old will be receiving the honorary degree alongside two others, The Honourable Justice Adrian Dudley Saunders and Professor Ebenezer Oduru Owusu who will be awarded Honorary Doctor of Laws and Doctor of Sciences respectively.
