Ogun State declares Tuesday, June 12 as public holiday

 The Amosun-led administration observes June 12 as a public holiday in the state in recognition of the democracy hero and annulment of the June 12, 1993, elections.The State Government officials, activists, civil society organisations, democracy volunteers, civil servants, labour and trade unions, students, market women/men and other stakeholders are expected to participate in the Democracy Walk.
The Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa disclosed this in a statement today saying the day would also be used to celebrate the recent conferment of a posthumous national honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic on Chief Moshood Abiola by President Muhammadu Buhari.  The Ogun State government has declared Tuesday, June 12, 2018, as a public holiday to enable residents to celebrate the new Democracy Day.

“This year will be no exception as befitting events including a Democracy Walk to be led by the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun have been lined up for the celebration.  “The walk scheduled to take off from the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta at 7: 00 a.m will take participants through major roads in the state capital to the Abiola’s family house at Oke-Ido, Gbagura where prayers will be offered for the martyr,” the statement read in part.

Niyi Akinmolayan shared a publication on his IG page where he said that some people could only have committed suicide because they are made with the world and not by depression. He shared his opinion on the suicide following the death of two international celebrities, Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdian, who committed suicide a week apart.   Banky W felt that Niyi's opinion about suicide is disgusting and would not have been issued since it was very insensitive to the families and loved ones who left the suicide victims.   Niyi, on the other hand, insists that victims of suicide should not be painted with bad light when they no longer, because some of them might have made the decision in good faith.

The Super Eagles squad have confirmed receiving their bonuses ahead of the 2018 World Cup tournament in Russia.

Some of the players confirmed the payments in an interview with KweséESPN.
“Yes, we have been paid,” one member of the squad confirmed. 'Some of us who have accounts in England collected cash and paid it into their accounts by themselves.
“The rest of us just got bank transfers,”  he added.
Back in November, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) signed an agreement with the players on a pay structure for bonuses, allowances and a share of the income from participation at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Under the agreement, the players were to be paid their qualification bonuses and share of the FIFA income in advance and are also due 30% of the NFF’s appearance fee from FIFA, which amounts to $2.8million.
According to reports, FIFA made an advance payment of $2 million, while the NFF says they raised $800,000 from sponsorship.
Each player reportedly got $10,000 per World Cup qualifying game, while head coach Gernot Rohr will be paid $15,000 per game and his assistants get $10,000 per game.
Nigeria will face Croatia, Argentina, and Iceland when the World Cup kicks off on the 14th of June.

Paul Gambit Blasts Nigerians Criticizing Girls In Music Videos, ClaimsThey Watch Them At Night

Video Music Director Paul Gambit has said that the use of little-dressed ladies in the music videos is due to their attractiveness to the public. As they arrive, many Nigerians complain about the common use of semi-naked women in the music videos that are on television.

According to Gambit who has directed videos for Yemi Alade, Dija, Cobhams and others, the use of ‘half-naked’ girls ‘depends on the songs’ and it is not in every kind of video.

 “If you look at our foreign counterparts, it’s the same thing,” Gambit said.

“It’s even worse. At the end of the day, it’s about the numbers. If you look at conscious music, for example, you don’t get as much hits on YouTube as much as you get for others. CNN's Anthony Bourdain Commits Suicide....

Anthony Bourdain has been found dead in his hotel room in France while working on his CNN series on culinary traditions around the world. He was 61.

CNN confirmed the death, saying in a statement that Bourdain was found unresponsive Friday morning by friend and chef Eric Ripert, and calling his death a suicide.

Bourdain’s achieved celebrity status after the publication in 2000 of his best-selling book "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly." World's Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua has been honoured with an OBE title in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

The British-Nigerian boxer who is a proud holder of WBA, IBF and WBO titles was honored with the title for his services to boxing.

In a statement by British Olympic Association chief executive Bill Sweeney, he hailed the recognition given to Yarnold Mike Hay and Anthony Joshua.
Sweeney said: "We are incredibly proud of those honoured today for their contribution to Olympism.
"In particular, Lizzy Yarnold and Anthony Joshua are great examples of athletes that were able to fulfil their not only their Olympic ambitions, but give so much back to their communities and country.
"As Chef de Mission, Mike Hay has presided over unprecedented consecutive Winter Games successes, bringing to bear his knowledge and experience in a highly competitive and unpredictable environment.

The legendary British actress, Eunice Gayson, who played the first "Bond Girl" in 1962, died at age 90. Eunice, who played the love interest of James Bond for Sylvia Trench, along with Sir Sean Connery in the films 'No' and 'From Russia With Love', died on Friday, June 8, 2018. His death was announced by the producer of Bond Barbara Broccoli in the official account of Twitter of films.
