Tiwa Savage Discusses With British Vogue about Excelling in a Male-dominated Nigerian Music Industry

 

British Vogue has shared a feature on All Over, crooner Tiwa Savage.
Tiwa chats with British Vogue on surmounting the male dominated Afrobeats genre. She also shares with Alice Newbold details of her Merchandise shop .

On the Merchandise Shop and what influenced the clothes on sale, Savage shares: “I wanted to give fans a lot more than just the show, so we decided to do a merch shop…I’m a tomboy at heart, but I wanted to reflect the mood of the city ahead of Notting Hill Carnival, so we did lots of neon colours.”
On Afrobeats and conquering the male stereotypes: “Afrobeats is very male-dominated, so most of my fans are female. Women identify with my music, with my lyrics, and I really use that to my advantage”.
She adds:
“My fans are so important. Afrobeats is a new genre to the world, so to have people that are dedicated to me, that take time out of their busy schedules and money out of their pockets to see me… it means so much. I don’t even like calling them fans – they’re like family, they’re like friends. They fuel me, they make me go on.”

She discusses in detail her wedding celebrations from the celebrations that began at Maiduguri with Wushe Wushe, Fatiha, Darka and Kai Amarya, which is the delivery of the bride to the groom's family. The ceremony later moved to Abuja for Budankai, which is the discovery of the bride by the groom's family and closed with a dinner organized by the groom's family. Arsene Wenger arrives in Liberia to receive special award from president George Weah

 Arsene Wenger has arrived in Liberia to receive the country's highest honour from president George Weah, who he signed for Monaco in 1988.
The former Arsenal boss arrived on Wednesday and was received  by Liberia's minister of Youth and Sports after landing in the country
President Weah will be inducting the Frenchman into his country's Order of Distinction and given the title of Knight Grand Commander of the Humane Order of African Redemption
The award not only conveys their personal connection, but also that he 'has contributed to sports in Africa and has given many Africans opportunities, according to information minister Eugene Nagbe.
The award ceremony will take place in the capital, Monrovia, on Friday.
Weah who is the only African to have been named World Player of the Year, claiming the honour in 1995 retired from football in 2003 and entered into Politics. He won last year's election by a landslide.

4 years after, Nigerians remember "BRAVE" Dr Stella Adadevoh who sacrificed her life to prevent the spread of Ebola virus in Nigeria

 

 

Dr. Stella Adadevoh, died after she contracted the deadly Ebola disease while trying to prevent its spread in Nigeria.

She is celebrated for having prevented a wider spread of the virus by placing the patient, Patrick Sawyer in quarantine despite pressures from the Liberian government. On 4 August 2014, it was confirmed that she had tested positive for Ebola virus disease and was being treated. She however died from the disease on August 19th.

Genevieve Nnaji’s ‘Lionheart’ starring Nkem Owoh, Pete Edochie & Onyeka Onwenu to Premiere at #TIFF18

 

Genevieve Nnaji’s latest production ‘Lionheart’ which was shot in 2017, is set to have its world premiere at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.
 Genevieve who plays Adaeze, a level-headed executive in her father’s bus company, Lionheart Transport. Time and again, Adaeze has proven her keen ability to make a profit and to manage the most heated situations. But when her father falls ill, both her and her rival are passed over in favour of Adaeze’s less-than-suave uncle, Godswill.
Focused to fight her way to the top, but does not want to go against her father's wishes, Adaeze feels as though the proverbial bus has left the station without her. It must quickly displace the gears, however, when she and the Godswill discover that Lionheart is running for smoke financially. Together, the impossible duo should join to save the company and their family name. Hard and comical observation, the film deals with everyday sexism that satiates job offices everywhere, and captures the delicate balance between the family's honor and the courage to go out.


Lionheart stars icons Nkem Owoh, Pete Edochie, Onyeka Onwenu and more, and this would be Genevieve’s directorial debut.
The festival is scheduled to take place from the 6th to the 16th of September 2018.

Third Mainland Bridge closure , see the alternative routes

 

The Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government will temporarily close the 3rd mainland bridge from today August 23rd to Sunday August 26th.
A statement released by the state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya said the decision was taken after due consultation with the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing.   Akinsanya said the four-day closure,will enable the contractors assess the true state of the bridge after which repair works would commence by the end of the year or early in 2019.

“The Third Mainland Bridge which was opened about 30 years ago by the then military government has had haphazard maintenance and repairs in the past which the present Federal Government is committed to correct by carrying out proper and continuous maintenance and repairs on it,” said Akinsanya.  

On alternative routes to be used by motorists,  Akinsanya said motorists from Lagos Abeokuta, Agege, Ogba and Ikeja to make use of Oshodi via Mushin Ojuelegba to connect Carter Bridge into Island, while those from Ikorodu, Maryland are to make use of Funsho Williams Avenue, formerly, Western Avenue via Yaba to Oyinbo and connect Eko Bridge into Island. Motorists from Okokomaiko, Festac, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway are enjoined to ply through Ajegunle via Marine Bridge to Ijora to connect Carter Bridge to Apongbon into Lagos Island.
Conversely, motorists from the Island are expected to ply Eko Bridge and Carter Bridge into Mainland, while those in Lekki Ajah can also make use of Epe axis through Imota into Ikorodu.
All traffic management agencies including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Police, among others, have been mandated to ensure smooth flow of traffic on all the other alternative roads and traffic corridor across the metropolis to ensure free flow of traffic.

Simon Cowell receives star on Hollywood Walk of Fame & is joined by his family

 

Simon Cowell has received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The 58-year-old was joined by his partner Lauren Silverman and their son four-year-old Eric as well as Lauren's son Adam, who she welcomed with former spouse Andrew Silverman, at the star-studded ceremony which took place on Wednesday in downtown Hollywood.

Stars including Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson, One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson and America's Got Talent judges Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel were at the glamorous event to support Cowell.
Speaking at the star-studded event, the celebrity television host said: "I was a massive fan of American television, American movies, when I was growing up.

Thierry Henry,41 agrees deal to become new manager of French club Bordeaux

According to French broadcaster RMC Sport, Henry will take over at Bordeaux, who have picked up zero points from their opening two Ligue 1 fixtures.

Henry, who enjoyed a stellar club career with Arsenal and Barcelona, and has been working as assistant coach of the Belgian national team, will replace former Uruguay international Gus Poyet who was recently suspended after he criticised the club's transfer policy at a press conference.

Following the sacking of Poyet, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed that Henry  who won the 1998 World Cup with France wanted to take his first step into management at Bordeaux.

XXXTentacion's girlfriend is having a boy - Late rapper's mother

 

The girlfriend of murdered rapper XXXTentacion is expecting a baby boy.
His mother, Cleopatra Bernard, confirmed the news on Instagram this evening by posting a photo of his girlfriend's growing baby bump and wrote:  'It’s a boy.'


XXXTentacion whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, 20,  was gunned down on June 18 while leaving a Deerfield Beach motorcycle dealership.

‘The Big Bang Theory’ Is Officially Coming To An End

 

“The Big Bang Theory” will end its 12 season run in May 2019, as its star actor, Jim Parsons has decided to step away from the show.
Warner Bros. Television, on the 22nd of August confirmed this, adding that the series will wrap up as the longest-running multi-camera series in history, breaking records with 279 episodes.

“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons,”

Warner Bros. Television, Chuck Lorre Productions and CBS said in a joint statement.

“We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale that will bring ‘The Big Bang Theory’ to an epic creative close,”it continued.

The show which debuted in 2007 and stars Johhny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Jim Parsons, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Raunch, also procreated a spinoff series, “Young Sheldon,” based on Parson’s character.
While “The Big Bang Theory” has never won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, it’s has gotten 52 nominations throughout its run. Parsons is the only lead actor to win four Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series trophies.

George Clooney tops Forbes list of highest paid actors after earning $239 million in just 12 months + full list

George Clooney is Hollywood's highest-paid actor for 2018 after earning $239 million over the past 12 months.
The 2-time Oscar winner and 'Oceans 11' star took back the top spot on Forbes' annual list from Mark Wahlberg after missing out on the top 10 last year.

Most of his giant earnings didn't come from acting paychecks but from the sale of Casamigos Tequila, which he co-founded in 2013, netting him $233 million, Forbes said.


The 57-year-old didn't appear in any films at all between the June 1, 2017, to the same date this year time frame, but was paid for several Nespresso ads, according to an annual list.
Actor, Dwayne Johnson was announced second on the list after earning $124 million, while Robert Downey Jr who's third on the list made $81 million.
