Why my SSCE certificate carries Sadiq Abubakar– Atiku Abubakar

#jaiyeorie

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has come out to explain why his Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) certificate bore a different name, Sadiq Abubakar, instead of Atiku Abubakar. The presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 Presidential election made the clarification through Dele Momodu who took to his X handle to convey the explanation.

Momodu, who was the Director of Strategic Communications of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, said the clarification is a response to allegations of forgery against his principal by members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He claimed that some APC members had questioned the name ‘Sadiq Abubakar’ in Atiku’s WAEC certificate as against his other credentials.Momodu, however, said he forwarded the questions to Atiku, who provided an answer for the discrepancy.

Israeli 🇮🇱 Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says what we do to Hamas in the coming days will reverberate with them for generations'

#jaiyeorie

The Israeli Prime Minister has declared intentions to obliterate Hamas for the deadly surprise attacks by the Palestinian militant group this weekend that saw hundreds of Israelis killed. Netanyahu compared Hamas to the Islamic State group and said Israel planned to deploy 'unprecedented force' that would 'reverberate for generations'.'We have only started striking Hamas,' Netanyahu, 73, said in a nationally televised address late last night. 'What we will do to our enemies in the coming days will reverberate with them for generations.

'Hamas terrorists bound, burned and executed children. They are savages. Hamas is ISIS,' Netanyahu concluded.Thousands of Hamas targets have been wiped out in brutal aerial bombing campaigns, Israeli defence officials claimed.Israel also ordered a 'complete siege' of Gaza, cutting off electricity, fuel and food for the 2.3 million Palestinians who for the most part were already living in abject poverty. The four-day-old war has already claimed at least 1,600 lives, as Israel saw gun battles in the streets of its own towns for the first time in decades, and neighbourhoods in Gaza were reduced to rubble. In a response to the savage aerial bombardment of Gaza, Hamas warned late last night it would begin executing Israeli civilian captives.

'Every targeting of our people without warning will be met with the execution of one of the civilian hostages,' Hamas' armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, said in a statement. Hamas militants abducted up to 150 people, including women and children, from Israeli territory and dragged them back to Gaza amid their ruthless slaughter. 'We have decided to put an end to this and as of now, we declare that any targeting of our people in their homes without prior warning will be regrettably faced with the execution of one the hostages of civilians we are holding,' Abu Obaida, spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, later added in a recording released to Al Jazeera.

Famous Angola 🇦🇴 TikToker jailed 2 years for insulting president

#jaiyeorie

A popular social media influencer in Angola, Ana da Silva Miguel, has had her prison sentence increased to 2 years by the country’s court for “insulting” President João Lourenço on TikTok, BBC reports.

The popular TikToker, known as Neth Nahara, was initially sentenced by a court to six months in August.

However, an appeal court ruled that the sentence was too lenient and raised it to two years.

Ms Miguel accused the president on her TikTok account with the username @nethnahara.yaya of “anarchy and disorganisation”, local media reported then.

She also blamed the president for lacking schools, housing and employment in the oil-rich southern African state.

President Lourenço was re-elected for a second term in August last year in a closely fought election that extended the ruling MPLA party’s decades-long dominance.

The appeals court in the capital, Luanda, said that Ms Miguel had used offensive words against the president, and the fact that she could influence public opinion made her conduct “more objectionable”.

She had pleaded for leniency because she was a first-time offender and a mother of young children and regretted her remarks.

Judge Salomão Raimundo Kulanda described the president as “sovereign” and said the TikToker was aware of this.

Ms Miguel has over 230,000 followers on TikTok, and her videos attract thousands of views.

Her lawyer told Portuguese news outlet Lusa that this was the first time a person had been convicted in Angola for something they had posted on TikTok.

The lawyer added that the ruling was final. An appeal to the Supreme Court could not be made for a sentence that was less than three years.

Angola is one of Africa’s biggest oil exporters, but most of its people live in poverty.

It has recently been hit by a wave of protests over the rising cost of living.

General SENTENCED for stealing $2.1m, N1.65b belonging to Nigerian Army

#jaiyeorie
Maj.-Gen. Umar Mohammed, a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian Army Properties Limited, was sentenced to seven years in jail yesterday by the Nigerian Army Special Court-martial sitting in Abuja for stealing $2,178,900 and N1.65 billion from the Nigerian Army Property Limited (NAPL).

Mohammed was convicted after the court found him guilty of 14 of the 18 counts that were presented to the court, including conspiracy, forgery, and the theft of cash.

To every accusation brought against him, the accused had entered a not guilty plea.

The eight-person panel, presided over by Maj.-Gen. James Myam, stated during the yesterday's resumed hearing when the verdict was announced that the senior military commander had been found guilty on 14 of the 18 counts against him.

Count One was Brought Under, according to Myam

He said the charge was also brought pursuant to Section 114 of the Armed Forces Act, Cap. A20, 2004.

The charges include stealing, for which Mohammed was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.

The convict is to return $1,045,400.000 to the Nigerian Army.

In counts one to six, Mohammed was charged with stealing and sentenced, on conviction, to five years’ imprisonment on each count and he is to return $1,045,400.000, $480,000, $85,400, $35,300, $55,500, and $46,500 to the Nigerian Army.

On Count Seven, he was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit forgery but was found not guilty, discharged and acquitted.

On Court Eight, the accused was charged with forgery, found guilty, and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment, among others.

The panel said the prosecution counsel called 24 witnesses, while the defendant called two witnesses.

In its judgment, the panel ordered that the convict be jailed for five years for some of the offences while others are to carry seven and two years.

It averred that the sentences would run concurrently and directed the convict to refund the stolen funds into the account of the NAPL.

Myam said the sentences were subject to the confirmation of “confirming authority”.

Before he was sentenced, Mohammed had reportedly been held in a military detention facility at Mogadishu Cantonment in Abuja for some years.

The defence counsel, Lekan Ojo (SAN), made an oral application that the convicted senior military officer be moved to Kuje Correctional Facility, but the panel declined the application.
