Shakira Gives Her Review of Box Office Hit, ‘Barbie’
Despite the movie topping the 2023 box office with over $1.4 billion worldwide and earning eight nominations at the 96th Oscars, Shakira was unimpressed by the film.
She said her sons “absolutely hated it because they felt it was emasculating”, an opinion she agreed with to an extent.
“I’m raising two boys, I want them to feel powerful too while respecting women. I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also provide and protect”.
Shakira on Allure Magazine
Furthermore, she believes women have been given all the tools to do it all without losing their essence and femininity, but she does not believe the ‘Barbie’ movie portrays that detail.
The singer will not be the first to heavily criticize the ‘Barbie’ movie, as podcaster, Matt Walsh referred to the film as “the most aggressively anti-man, feminist propaganda fest ever put to film”.
Apart from heavily criticizing ‘Barbie’, Shakira spoke about a wide range of other issues like pain, triumph, woman-power, etc.
The singer is making press rounds to promote her newly released album, ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’.
