Toyin Saraki On The Importance Of Investing in Midwifery

Her Excellency Mrs Toyin Saraki, the Founder-Director of the Wellbeing Foundation Africa, and ICM Global Goodwill Ambassador, outlines the importance of investing in midwifery.

 

 

HE Toyin Saraki expressed the following points:

· The value of midwives in Nigeria is being shown in the unlikeliest of places – camps for internally displaced people (IDP) uprooted by Boko Haram militants.

· Around one in five babies are dying during childbirth in northeast Nigeria, where the Islamist group has waged a six-year insurgency, yet the survival rate of pregnancies delivered in IDP camps in the region is almost 100 percent

· At this conference, the midwives will not only learn how to save a mother and child’s life, but also how to detect women at risk of domestic violence and female genital mutilation (FGM)

· While Nigeria has started training midwives in life-saving emergency obstetric care in recent years, it still lacks enough midwives or an even distribution across the nation

· Midwives will be the army to change dire health outcomes, if we invest in them and provide them with skills

· Nigerian midwives need to be able to stand on an equal footing with midwives from around the world.

Why will you destroy your own children with your own carelessness?

 Don’t let your children see your nakedness. Don’t make love in the presence of your child no matter the age. The scene sticks to the memory& they may want to explore & experiment what they are seeing. Stopping making home-made ‘sex clips or video’ for your children to be watching. Mummy, sit properly. Stop sitting as if you are in the labour room; parting your legs and your son seeing your inner thigh & pant. Be careful! Daddy, don’t wear boxers at home such that when you sit down your ‘thing’ would be dangling for your daughter to see. There are things you should not….

Water is life…Without water nothing can survive.

According to the World Health Organisation over 1 billion people globally lack access to safe drinking-water supplies, while 2.6 billion lack adequate sanitation. Diseases relating to unsafe water result in an estimated 1.7 million deaths every year.

The Dabota Life Project aims to provide safe clean water  and create a culture/ awareness of the importance of consuming clean water in Nigeria.

The lack of safe water in rural areas is a major cause of death and a significant obstacle to community development, especially for growing children. And ou‎r project, DABOTA LIFE, is geared mainly towards children in rural areas ,community school, orphanages and hospitals.‎

Apart from distributing certified clean and safe bottled water, our other projects under the DABOTA LIFE scheme are based on providing communities with the means to help themselves.  For instance, DABOTA LIFE also intends to construct boreholes in communities across Nigeria where access to clean water is lacking. ‎These various projects will be monitored from start to finish by Trustees, who liaise closely with each local community’s leaders and social workers.

Funding for all projects goes directly to the beneficiary – there is no middle man.

When a genuine need is identified, DABOTA LIFE will provide funding for the commissioning of a borehole in the area, and closely monitor the process from start to finish.

Sadiq Khan Becomes London’s 1st Muslim Mayor

Sadiq Khan was declared the first Muslim Mayor of London Friday night after defeating rival Zac Goldsmith.

Khan got a total of 1,310,143 votes, claiming victory over Goldsmith who got 994,614.

Khan said:

This election was not without controversy and I’m so proud that Londoners have today chosen hope over fear and unity over division. I grew up on a council estate a few miles from here. Back then I never dreamt someone like me could be elected mayor of London. 

I want to say a thank you for making the impossible possible. I have a burning ambition for London. An ambition that will guide me everyday: to give Londoners opportunities not to survive but to thrive, the opportunities to build a better future with a decent and affordable home. More jobs with better pay, not just being safe but feeling safe, cleaner air and a healthier city. Londoners to fulfil their potential.

I’ve been thinking about my late dad. He was a great dad. I am so proud to say that the city he chose to call home has now chosen one of his children to be mayor.

: Access Bank MD Herbert Wigwe Arrested Over Diezani's $5m Secret Fund

 

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)  raided the headquarters of Access Bank Plc. in Lagos, and arrested the bank's managing director, Herbert Wigwe.

An EFCC source disclosed that Mr. Wigwe was questioned regarding funds laundered through the bank by officials of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

An EFCC official told SaharaReporters that the source of some questionable funds located in the bank was also traced to former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke. The source disclosed that the Access Bank MD received $5 million that was routed through Zenith Bank.

Ghollywood actress Yvonne Nelson has a new project in the works and it is a TV series called “Heels & Sneakers”.

 

Synopsis:

The drama series revolves around Pinto who traveled to Jamaica and got involved in drugs so had to run back home to seek refuge, and the only work he could do here is to sell vegetables to homes and restaurants; something he does riding a bicycle. This makes him well known in the community and as such prone to the repudiation from society because of his Rastafarian lifestyle. Apart from being into the vegetable business, Pinto, the lead character, also does music and hopes to climb back the ladder of success not through drug deals but through music. The question of whether or not he will succeed is why people must watch this series.

The series also focuses on Nana, Trish and Celine, independent women of the working class in society who find one thing in common; their inability to find a life partner. Their lives empathize with the working class women who in spite of their glamour and accomplishments cannot find husbands and so fall in the hands of wrong suitors, who either dupe them or meddle with their hearts. Celine who is an intelligent lecturer in a renowned university falls in love with one of her good looking male students which leads into blackmails and finally to her resignation. Nana, who is very choosy when it comes to taking a life partner, is lured by Kojo but he turns out to be a fraudster.

Another storyline in the series that pretty much reflects the title is the youthful and campus twist it amasses. The show follows the lives of students on campus and out of campus, relationships, fears, challenges and most of all peer pressure, which makes it more fashionable and youthful than the other shows which are quite monotonous. Students live lives which become a concern to society and makes parents raise eyebrows and find the discipline sticks to put them right. In the typical strict Christian home of the Manfords, we find out that the eldest, Margaret lives a two-faced life; one being the good and respectful Christian girl at home and the other being the wild and adventurous spoilt brat outside the home. The series actually gives parents the clues that their wards may be only living to please them at home only to go out and throw away the values instilled in them.

Comedy is the jelly of every drama and to spice things up, there are characters like Kevin and Jay whose mere utterances can rip the ribs apart. Jay is a fante guy who swims better when flowing in fante but suffocates to death when pushed in a typical English position. Unlike, Jay, Kevin can speak English, but like every Kumasi guy, he prefers to speak in Twi and most of the things he says are rib cracking. He is a coaxing and fun person to be around. In his palm is information about the whole community and the people who dwell in it.

1st Muslim Miss USA beauty converts to #Christianity

 

Rima Fakih was the 1st Muslim to win the Miss USA competition in 2010. Now, the former beauty queen has converted to Christianity.

 

 It is alleged she converted last month in preparation for her marriage in Lebanon next week to a wealthy Christian music producer, Wassim Salibi.

When she won Miss USA she admitted she only became a Muslim when she got into college. She said:

"I'd like to say I'm American first, and I am an Arab-American, I am Lebanese-American, and I am Muslim-American." According to the news site Albawaba, Fakih only connected to her Muslim roots in college.

"When I went to the University of Michigan, because there's more of a Muslim community, my dad wanted me to learn more about Islam," she said. "I didn't know much about Ramadan and other holidays, and my dad wanted me to take that opportunity and learn."
