Dele Giwa, a former the Editor-in-Chief of Newswatch magazine, was killed by a letter bomb on October 19, 1986.
Ita-Giwa, who spoke on a radio programme (Hit FM) in Calabar on Wednesday, explained that she became interested in the journalistic write-ups as a result of the works of her mother, Beatrice Bassey-Ita and the likes of Peter Enahoro and Sam Amuka.
She said that she got married to Dele Giwa just barely three weeks
Ita Giwa said, “I became attracted to journalism because of my mother and the likes of Peter Enahoro, Sam Amuka and others. My mother worked for the West African Pilot and later The Guardian before she joined Sketch where she retired.
“I stumbled into Dele Giwa because I liked his column. I did marry him eventually not because he was handsome, but what he had upstairs. When I met him coincidentally, I just told him that I had been reading his columns which I found entertaining and intellectually challenging.
“On that particular day, he looked at his time and said he was going home to write his column, he requested that follow him to his house to see how he prepared the column, I agreed. We drove from Surulere to Ikeja because I was curious.
“When we got to his house, he went to his study and brought out one old typewriter and sat on the table with a glass of water and cognac and started typing straight from his head without looking at any material.
“He did this up till about 3am the next morning, I was so amazed. I called my mum that early morning through his telephone (landline) to inform her that I was with Dele Giwa and that he was typing his column from his head.
“From that day, we never parted until we got engaged three weeks after. He was a beautiful and intellectually rich human being that had so much in his head. He was very fearless. He was a prolific writer and I was always scared for his life.”

Okwumo Nwabufo,Olisaeloka Ezike, Orji Osita, and other defendant Leaves To File Final Address In Cynthia Osokogu’s Murder Case

Justice Olabisi Akinlade, of the Igbosere High Court, Lagos, had on October 27, foreclosed the right of the second defendant to file his address. Akinlade had ordered that the second defendant’s right to file his address be closed due to the delay in filing the address adding that there were several adjournments by the court to enable the second defendant file his address.

Osokogu was allegedly murdered on July 22, 2012 at Cosmilla Hotel, Lakeview Estate, Festac Town, Lagos, by her Facebook lover.

The counsel to second defendant Mr A. Nwachukwu, Olisaeloka Ezike, in the ongoing trial of Cynthia Osokogu’s alleged murderer, sought the leave of the court to file his final written address.
The defendants are Okwumo Nwabufo, Olisaeloka Ezike, Orji Osita, and Ezike Nonso. They are facing a six-count charge of conspiracy, murder, stealing, reckless negligence and possession of stolen goods.

At the resumed hearing of the case yesterday Nwachukwu, told the court that he had a motion on notice which was seeking to regularise his written address filed out of time. He informed the court that he had served other parties in the case with the documents, however, the court’s copy was handed to the court’s registrar in the court, but with the leave of court.

Nwachukwu told the court that he was not the counsel handling the case from the beginning. He said that the reason why the former counsel was not able to file the address within time was due to ill-health.

“The former lawyer handling this case was very ill. I was newly briefed, therefore, needed time to study the proceedings of the court.

“Also there were 10 witnesses in this case which I had to study their various testimonies. “I seek the leave of this court to file a motion to regularise my final written address,” Nwachukwu said.

God has officially started yanking off the names of MMM participants, from the book of life - Facebook user, Akande Thomas

Facebook user, Akande Thomas, has shared the experience of a MMM stakeholder who claims God rejected his tithe from MMM earnings and that Christians participating in the scheme have their names removed from the book of life.

Read  below:
The Reality of MMM.
(From a participant)
When I was initially introduced to MMM, I went to God in prayer to seek for HIS approval. HE clearly told me that I cannot engage in it because those Christians involved in the scheme have had their names removed from the book of life. I was seriously troubled and at the same time afraid as I prayed passionately. As soon as I finished praying, I thought within myself ‘could this voice restraining me be of God?’. Just as I was meditating, another voice came saying; ‘It can not be of God but rather from the devil trying to tie you down in perpetual poverty for the rest of your life.’ So I quickly neglected the former voice for the latter.
I decided to try the scheme with 250k. At the month end, I was so happy when I saw the return of the investment. Could life had been better than this? God punish the devil that would’ve restrained me from this ‘bumper harvest’. Then I decided to pay my tithe. Just as I was planning to make the withdrawal, God ministered to me – ‘I don’t have anything to do with such money.’ I broke down in tears regretting what I have done in disobeying God. I pleaded for forgiveness of which I know HE has mercifully answered. I closed my MMM account but till now I don’t just know what to do with the money God has rejected.
I’m sharing this as a result of the concern for the brethren in this last days. Though some people may decide to be asking rhetoric questions but I believe serious minded Christians will go to God to also hear from HIM.

I am a bit apprehensive about being a dad because I know what I was like as a child and how unruly I was. - Actor Kalu Ikeagwu @kaluikeagwu

 Kalu Ikeagwu

British-born award winning actor and scriptwriter, Kalu Ikeagwu is fearful about fatherhood. In an exclusive chat with Entertainer, he says: “Well, it is God who gives. Hmmm… I don’t want to have more than I can handle.

I am a bit apprehensive about being a dad because I know what I was like as a child and how unruly I was. And in this age where there are a lot of outside forces that influence children, I am praying for the grace to be able to discipline my kids with love. So, I want as many as I can handle but I don’t want more than I can handle, let us say three kids.”

Ikeagwu on the joys of marriage. “I think I went for the best,” he says, as his face melts in a wrinkle of smiles. “When I prayed to God for my wife, I prayed for two things. I prayed that God should give me a wife who loves Him more than me and that she should be a companion to me.
“I threw away all my pre-conceived notions because, before now, I used to be very picky; she had to be very beautiful, look a certain way and all of that. Usually, I like dark-complexioned women; slim, beautiful and everything. But I just told God that, if you want to give me fat, light complexioned and whatever state she is from, I am okay with it.”
And the thespian says God met him at the point of his needs. “I got everything I asked for and more. Marriage has been everything I wanted and even more. I have the best in-laws, I have a daughter, stepdaughter and my wife is such a joy and exactly what I prayed for, a companion.”
Ikeagwu further confesses: “I am not a very patient person. I have always liked my solitude, and funny enough, she is one person I can share all that with. She doesn’t invade my space and I am very comfortable with her; and when she talks, she talks intelligently. It has been wonderful and I have been blessed beyond measure.”
Now that he is married, what has changed about him?
The actor responds: “I think I am more tolerant now. Like I said, I love my independence, but it has changed in the sense that you start to accommodate more of the other person. You sacrifice for her and also recognise that sacrifice strengthens your character. So, I think in that sense, my character has been strengthened quite a bit from what it was before. I still live the life I lived before, but it is a lot richer now. I get more favours business-wise.”

We make time for one another, no matter how tight the schedule, no matter how short the time. - Comedian MC Abbey's Wife

Comedian MC Abbey and wife Jumoke, a chartered accountant  celebrate their 9th Wedding anniversary. They talk about finding love, family life and how they settle quarrels. Read excerpts

How and when did you meet?
Mc Abbey: I was anchoring a beauty pageant and she was one of the contestants. I went back stage and introduced myself; but she said she was very busy and could not attend to me! I left but some weeks later, I met her in my church. She was leaving after the first service while I was going in for the second service. I called her and she recognised me but she wanted to dodge so I told her to give me her number. She gave me the number and I dialled it. I ensured that the phone rang while she was there (so that she would not deceive me).
Jumoke: The first time he approached me, I sincerely thought, 'who's this dark-skinned, short man that thinks he can just walk up to me and start running his mouth?' It turned out that he had met me before at a beauty pageant, which he compered with Ali Baba. I was a contestant, and he just wanted to re-establish contact. When he asked for my number, I almost gave him the wrong one, but something told me this guy is smart and would most likely dial the number. I gave him the right number, and he dialled it immediately. We were friends for a year after which he eventually asked me out.
At what point did you realise the relationship was moving towards marriage?
MC Abbey: I did not make my intention of marriage known to her until we were friends for one year because I needed to know her very well.  When I told her, she thought I was joking and she set up a meeting between me and her pastor. She wanted to be convinced that I was serious.

Jumoke:  I didn't take him seriously at first. I told him he had to be younger than his looks. He convinced about his age by showing me his driving licence. I told him to try the next girl if he was not in for a serious relationship because I was not looking for a boyfriend.  He told me he was serious.  I started taking him seriously when I got a confirmation from God that he was the man for me.  Before I met him, I dreamt of getting married to a tall, fair-skinned man. Thank God I didn't walk by sight. If I had, I'm sure my life would have turned out a lot differently.

What was the main attraction?
Jumoke: Like I said, I did not set out to be wooed by him. I just liked (and still do) the fact that he always made me laugh uncontrollably whenever he called. I didn't even know he was a comedian at first. Also, he is a man of integrity, and the goodness of his heart always shines through.

MC Abbey:  Her beauty was the first thing I noticed the first day I met her. I observed that she was not just beautiful, she was a combination of beauty and brains.
How do you hang out as a couple?
MC Abbey: We love watching movies together; we also have a couple’s time out where we review the status of our relationship every quarter. We discuss our areas of conflict or misunderstanding and I ask her to mention things I do that are not pleasing to her. She is free to tell me how to improve on certain aspects of my character.   We pray together at the end of the review.
Jumoke:  We also enjoy each other’s company a lot. We go out most times to watch one of his shows.  We dine out and go to the movies. Sometimes, we leave the kids at home and spend a night or two out in a hotel somewhere, just to make sure that we are constantly in tune with each other.

What changes has this relationship brought to your lives?
Jumoke: Being married to MC Abbey has brought me a lot more exposure. I'm a private person; I would rather be by myself and not seek out company, but that is no longer possible. Also, I can be so goal-oriented that I tread on people carelessly without considering their feelings, so long as I get my results. He has taught me to relax and smell the roses; that the process is as important as the result.
MC Abbey:
She has changed me a lot. I am more prim and proper now. I was just a rugged rough man but she has beaten me to shape. She tells me, ‘Before I married you, you were not looking this handsome.’ I do a lot of facials because of my wife; she takes me to the spa and does my manicure at home. She is my make-up artist.
How do you settle quarrels?
Jumoke:
My husband always insists on thrashing out issues as they occur. No matter how long we need to talk to get to the point where we understand one another and agree on divergent issues, he will make sure we stay on the topic. Also, have a 'quarterly review', like a date night, where we would examine what each party is doing that the other does not like, and make resolutions to change. The change will then be assessed at the next review.
MC Abbey:
We work with the philosophy that people should not let their anger go down with the sun.  I don’t like sweeping things under the carpet, sometimes she might want to say we should just forget about it but I would insist on discussing the issue.  I have learnt to always say, ‘please, I am sorry, forgive me.’ I don’t need to be wrong or right.
What are the things you dislike about each other?
MC Abbey:
There are some things she does that make me angry but I still love her for them. For instance, she is always too particular about how she looks. Sometimes she would say she is adding too much weight and she would run to the gym, I warn her, ‘if you want to lose weight, make sure you don’t lose weight around your backside!’

Jumoke:
Sometimes, my husband just can't be bothered to do certain things, even when it is something that appears to be important to me, such as taking proper care of documents, and not just putting them anywhere.
What do you do to keep the marriage strong?
 Jumoke:
We pray together and for each other. We make time for one another, no matter how tight the schedule, no matter how short the time. He loves having my attention, and I try to make sure that 'his' time is not overridden by chores or caring for the kids. For both of us, the other person's satisfaction is more important.
MC Abbey:
I have learnt to listen more to what she is saying, sometimes she can say a whole lot of things without saying a word and that is very deep.  I have grown to understand her silent language and speechless communications. I have also grown to understand the fact that I can’t be better if she is not better.
