Oba of Lagos gives Amazon 14-day ultimatum to remove Eyo masquerade from ‘Gangs of Lagos’

 #jaiyeorie

Oba Rilwan Akiolu has given Amazon a 14-day ultimatum to remove the Eyo from ‘Gangs of Lagos’.

The Lagos monarch waded in on the long-running debate about the film’s portrayal of the local Eyo masquerade.

The film tells the story of a group of friends forced to navigate the hardship of growing up on the streets of Lagos.

‘Gangs of Lagos’ has, however, been on the receiving end of public backlash over concerns that it depicted the Eyo masquerade, which is native to the Isale Eko community of Lagos, as being donned by a gang of murderers.

Aggrieved indigenes have also been questioning the film’s portrayal of Isale Eko as a den of criminals.

As a result, the Isale Eko Descendants Union (IDU) filed a lawsuit against Amazon and the film’s producers.

The union is demanding ₦10 billion in damages in a case that has been making court rounds for weeks now.

The Oba of Lagos, while wading in on the matter, listed four conditions that the producers should meet in 14 days.

Akiolu called on Amazon Web Service, Greoh Studios, and the film producers “to immediately remove, cease and desist from using” the image getup and the full manifestation of the local Eyo masquerade in the ‘Gangs of Lagos’.

He said the “illegal representation” of the Eyo in the crime thriller inflicted huge reputational damage to its brand.

“I am the custodian and final authority of the Adimu Orisa and its manifestation of the Eyo.”

“These traditional rites are the tangible and intangible property of the indigenes of Lagos and these are their bundle of rights of our intellectual property in our cultural heritage.

“This cultural heritage is the legacy of physical artefacts and intangible attributes that has been inherited from past generations over two hundred years ago, maintained in the present by the Oba of Lagos, and bestowed for the benefit of future generations.

“They must not be used without the indigenous owners’ express permission or desecrated in any way whatsoever.”

The monarch asked the film producers to submit within 14 days a proposal for the restitution of Eyo’s sanctity.

He asked the film producers to provide, within 14 days, a compensatory proposal for the infringement.

Amazon is the founder of Prime which only just released ‘Gangs of Lagos’ as its first original African production.

Taylor Swift breaks is the first living artist in nearly 60 years to achieve rare feat

#jaiyeorie

Taylor Swift is the first living artist in nearly 60 years to boast four albums simultaneously in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart.

She also made history as the first woman to achieve this rare feat, thanks to her hit records “Lover” (No. 7), “Folklore” (No. 10), “Midnights” (No. 5) and “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” (No. 1), which came out this month.

According to Billboard, the last living musician to have four albums in the top 10 at the same time was trumpet player Herb Alpert, who reached the milestone in 1966 with “Going Places,” “Whipped Cream and Other Delights,” “South of the Border” and “The Lonely Bull.”

The only other entertainer to post at least four concurrent albums in the top 10 was Prince — whose records “The Very Best of Prince,” “The Hits/The B-Sides,” “Ultimate,” “1999” and the “Purple Rain” soundtrack dominated the chart following the music legend’s death in 2016, Billboard said.

“I was in that phase. I was not thinking about myself. So, before playing this role, I had already informed the most important people in my life, which are my family members. I knew they would support and protect me. While I was sending stripper videos to Aunty Toyin Abraham, I was also sharing them with my mum, my sister, my brother, and other important people in my life. I said, ‘These are the kind of things you will see on Netflix, is it fine?’ My mum responded, ‘Hmm.’

After Ruthie posted a picture of her partner, Daniel Regha, in a suggestive position online, people started to wag their tongues.
Fans commented on this, and it appears to have fostered the notion that they are having a love relationship.

However, Daniel Regha took to his page to dispel the notion, stating that they are not even close friends, let alone a couple.

He wrote:

“For the record I’m not in a relationship with Agbukor the fufu lady; We are not even friends, & might never be. I get that she’s trying to build her online presence by being a wannabe wifey, but don’t be misled. Hopefully she finds someone who truly appreciates her. No offense.”

“Popularity faded after BBNaija, no hit song” — Daniel Regha slams Laycon

#jaiyeorie

Controversial Twitter troll Daniel Regha calls 2020 BBNaija champion Laycon a no-hit singer and implies that his career is waning.

Recall that the singer gained popularity after appearing on the reality show, following which he published his musical album.

However, three years have gone since the singer's victory on BBNaija, and his music career appears to be waning.

Laycon was criticized by Daniel Regha for losing his sense of what stardom and a successful music career were all about in a tweet on the microblogging website Twitter. He also attributed his decline to the album's release being before he achieved long-lasting renown.

“Laycon is a promising upcomer, but it’s not by “Awa fierce” or online hype, he should’ve built his presence as a musician before dropping an album. He has no hit single, his 2021 projects underperformed & his popularity has faded since after BBN. Best wishes though. No offense,” he wrote.

#jaiyeorie

Nigerian music producer Don Jazzy revealed in a recent interview that he makes a large financial commitment, ranging from 50 million to 100 million naira, when he signs new singers to his record company within a year.

He added that, before making a choice, he carefully considers each potential artist and, in the end, selects the one with whom he has a strong emotional connection.

Once chosen, he starts the process of fostering and honing the chosen person's skill while establishing a devoted following.

Don Jazzy added that he suffers the difficulty of not being able to accommodate everyone in his record label even if he is willing to sign more singers.

As a result, he finds it difficult to put together an efficient schedule for the artists .
