Benita Okojie Adeyina talks Becoming a Mother, Postpartum Depression & More as she covers FabMum’s June 2018 Issue

Benita Okojie, is the cover star for Fab Mum Nigeria‘s June 2018 issue
In this interview, the singer shares various life lessons that affect mums of all ages; from labour, to postpartum depression to having a support system and more.
Read excerpts from her interview below.
On becoming a mother: I think the early stage of course was overwhelming, I knew that my life had changed forever for good. I had to share my time with the new baby. It wasn’t easy because it was not something I was used to, it was a new experience for me and I thank God for the Joy of being a mother. It can be also be challenging and I understand why people have post partum depression because if you don’t have people there with you the feeling might be overwhelming for some people.

On her labour: My mum and my sister were there with me during labour. My husband was also there but had to go get some items. I don’t even want to talk about labour.I was just really glad when the baby came out because I was there for 17 hours. I looked at my baby and I was like that huge guy came out of me but I thank God for counting us worthy of such a great blessing and having our families supporting us with prayers meant a lot. There were times the reality of being a new mother set in and I would go quiet. My mum would say baby blues and smile. I’m grateful for an amazing family system. Every one was helpful one way or the other. Thank God, baby A and I have grown since then.
On postpartum depression: I didn’t have, that’s why it’s important to have people around you. There were moments where I had people around me and I’ll go quiet for a while and when they asked what was wrong with me I’d tell them nothing. Then I didn’t really feel like talking because I felt when they are done gisting I’ll go back inside and face my own joy and at the same time the challenges that come with it. But because I had people around me those quiet moments didn’t last.

NeNe Leakes reveals husband Greg has been diagnosed with Cancer

NeNe Leakes, 50, has revealed that her husband Gregg Leakes, has been diagnosed with cancer.
Sharing a photo of him sitting in a chair at a doctor’s office on Instagram, the reality star wrote: 'Our New Normal and the fight begins?? #fuckcancer????????#mdandersoncancercenter #yougotthis #iloveyou'
The news comes weeks after NeNe announced in May that she was canceling her upcoming comedy shows because Gregg, 63, had been in the hospital for more than 2 weeks.
“First of all, I just want to say that I feel very blessed and extremely lucky to be able to do what I do. I’m so grateful that you guys purchased tickets to see me everywhere,” she said in an Instagram video on May 22. “I have to cancel my Albany, New York, show and my New York City Caroline’s show. Today marks the 15th day straight that Gregg has been in the hospital.”

World Cup: Magical pig predicts Nigeria will get to semi-finals

It's Gemini season and EJ Johnson is celebrating his 26th birthday in style.

The "Rich Kids of Beverly Hills" alum, son of Magic & Cookie Johnson, celebrated his 26th on June 4th. EJ hit the streets of West Hollywood to turn up at Poppy Club with his friends.

@UniJos Mistakenly awards 1st class degrees to gradaunds

Confusion has set in after 20 graduands from the Department of Law at the University of Jos were erroneously awarded First Class degrees by the university.

 

According to Premium Times, the error, which occurred on the university’s convocation ceremony web portal. Several graduands of the department’s 2015/2016 academic session were noted to have bagged First Class degrees when in an actual sense only one student got a First Class degree. The graduands name was given as  Olusegun Pelumi Adewunmi.

Clement Dakkas, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, when contacted described it as “strange.” “This is news to me,” Mr Dakkas, a professor of Law, told PT

“Matters of this nature are addressed by the Registrar, but my recollection is that you know in the entire history of the university, we have produced only three First Class in Law. The first in 1980, the second in 1990 – and incidentally I was the second in 1990 – and then one young man, I think, a year ago. Aaliyah was an iconic R&B artist of her day and featured on one of i-D’s most iconic covers.The homage effectively uses archival footage, studio scenes, and exteriors in Aaliyah’s home of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. 17 years later, MAC Cosmetics and i-D, a Vice-owned global platform for emerging talent that celebrates fashion, culture, individuality, and youth partnered up to create a tribute film that celebrates the life and legacy of the late singer with help from her friends, fans, and family.

The A-Z series on i-D is an alphabetical guide to critical cultural movements, icons, and trends as told through 26 vignettes. The 5-plus-minute film, directed by Cara Stricker, explores the legacy of Aaliyah in a non-linear A-Z format that includes the late artist’s influences on fashion, music, dance and pop culture.

 Aaliyah’s close friends and peers, producer Timbaland and Missy Elliott, discuss her style and legacy. Princess Nokia, Empress Of, Keke Palmer, and Alton Mason demonstrate how Aaliyah’s influence has carried on to a younger generation and is likely to endure. The genesis of this collection came from an online movement ignited by fans of Aaliyah’s and the cosmetics brand.

Donna Lamar, group creative director of Vice (and an Adweek Creative 100 honoree for 2018), said:

“This project birthed creativity in ways that mirror Aaliyah’s influence on culture. 20 years ago she broke convention and created a style that young people could look up to and find their own beauty in. Many still do. So, we tried to honor her legacy by making her A- Z reflective of an artist who thought of herself as an interpreter, ‘the one who takes your words and bring them to life.’ She deconstructed the expected and made something new. Keke Palmer said it best, ‘…she (Aaliyah) epitomizes someone so fierce, so dope, so much of an individual that she inspired other people to feel like, you know what? I can be my own person too.’”

The collection is available online in North America on June 20, in stores on June 21 and available in select International markets in July.
