The Duchess of Cambridge paid tribute to Princess Diana by wearing her 19 diamond arches each
cradling a pearl drop tiara.
Kate wore the
jewellery designed by Garrard in 1914.Diana wore the tiara often, choosing it for state
banquets after the Queen gave it to her as a wedding present in 1981, including
a dinner held in honour of Japanese Emperor Akihito in 1990 (right).
It is the fourth time Kate, 33, has worn
a tiara, choosing the Cartier Halo tiara for her 2011 wedding, the Queen
Mother's Lotus Flower tiara for the Queen's annual diplomatic reception in 2013
and the same headpiece at the state banquet in October. She was joined by a
dapper Prince William and Prince Charles who were both in white tie for the
event which is attended by senior royals and is the largest bash held annually
at the Palace.
