These musicians represent the past, present, and future of black music as a whole.
This month's carefully planned presentations are a celebration of black artists expressing themselves in new ways, as well as the Tiny Desk's unique approach of displaying that talent.
Adekunle Gold, who is currently on tour in the US and Canada, stopped by the Tiny Desk to show the audience and fans what to expect from the 19-city trek.
The Tiny Desk (home) concert of the Nigerian singer-songwriter has the sound and energy of a flight path.
It begins quietly and gradually increases to higher decibels, making you want to dance and move your feet.
AG's career took off after the release of his debut single "Sade" in 2014, which was a highlife rendition of One Direction's "Story of My Life," and his debut album "Gold" in 2016.
The Yoruba sensation's sound has developed from highlife to Afropop over the course of three albums.
AG shot his (home) concert with his band in Los Angeles, inside a throwback, fictitious airport terminal — AG Baby Airlines' headquarters.
With AG's soft vocals, violin, and steady, rhythmic percussion, the band's arrangement works well live, beginning with "Sinner," a modern spin on the Bible story of King David and Bathsheba.
"It's such an energy provider — the audience turn up, and we are about to turn up now," AG explains as he closes his set with the uptempo and jaunty "Okay," a dependable banger from his LP "Afro Pop, Vol. 1."
As part of his first North American tour, Catch Me If You Can, which kicks off today in Boston — as mentioned on the AG Baby Airlines signs — "turn up" is exactly the right expression, as AG Baby is letting you know that he might be coming to a city near you.

Yoruba actress, Laide Bakare, has celebrated her son, Damy, who turned nine years old on Tuesday.
Still in the celebration mode, the actress’ 13-year-old daughter, Simi, gave the celebrant a Mercedes Benz as his birthday gift.
Simi had asked her mother to buy her brother a car with her (Simi’s) allowance, the actress revealed on Wednesday.

Johnny Depp won all three defamation claims in his case brought against ex-wife Amber Heard over her 2018 op-ed about coming forward with domestic abuse allegations.
The jury awarded Depp with $15 million in damages but Heard will only have to pay $10.35 million due to Virginia law cap on punitive damages (the judge reduced the amount).
In regards to Heard’s countersuit brought against Depp, he was found to have defamed her on one of three claims. She was awarded $2 million in damages.
After closing arguments from both sides were made on Friday, the jury entered deliberations and then resumed Tuesday morning after the Memorial Day holiday. Then on Wednesday afternoon, after more than 12 total hours of deliberations behind closed doors, the verdict was unanimously reached and read aloud in the Fairfax County, Virginia, courtroom.
Depp, 58, was not present for the reveal, instead watching from the U.K., where he’s been performing rock concerts with Jeff Beck since Sunday night. Heard, 36, showed up in person for the verdict.

On June 1, US President Joe Biden stated that his government had no intention of deposing Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The newest development comes less than three months after he stated that Putin should step down as president.
Biden's altered opinion was referenced in a New York Times op-ed.
In March, he made a statement that prompted the White House to explain Biden's comments.
Following the invasion of Ukraine, US President Barack Obama claimed Putin "cannot stay in power."

Biden went on to say:
A war between NATO and Russia is not something we want.
As much as I disagree with Mr. Putin and feel his actions to be counterproductive, As much as I disagree with Mr. Putin and think his conduct reprehensible, the US will not attempt to overthrow him in Moscow.
We will not be directly involved in this conflict unless we or our allies are attacked; either by deploying American troops to fight in Ukraine or by attacking Russian forces.
We do neither encourage or enable Ukraine to strike outside of its boundaries.
We don't want to keep the war going only to hurt Russia.

On Wednesday morning, the Grammy Award-winning musician announced the news on his Instagram Story.
After posting a teaser on his Instagram story, the Afrobeat artist announced a few of the artists who would be included on his upcoming album.
He thanked Ayra Starr, Naira Marley, Ty Dolla $ign, Skepta, and BNXN formerly known as Buju for their contributions to his next release.
The founder of Star Boy Records did not disclose if these are the only artists who will be featured on his future project.

Friends and family members of Christabel, the recently deceased victim of a botched surgery, have paid a visit to the medical center where the purported operation was performed.
A lady who claimed to be Christabel’s friend called out the clinic on Twitter, saying that the deceased complained to the clinic where she did her surgery that she was bleeding.
The young lady from Port Harcourt died as a result of a botched cosmetic procedure in Lagos State.
On Twitter, a woman claiming to be Christabel's friend chastised the facility, claiming that the dead had complained to the clinic where she had her surgery about bleeding.
According to the buddy, the clinic told Christabel that the bleeding was usual after surgery and that it will cease.
Unfortunately, Christabel died as a result of her lack of medical attention.

Bill Gates gave a crucial message to Kunle Adeyanju, a Nigerian guy who rode from London to Lagos.
In a campaign to eradicate polio, he rode his bike from London to Lagos.
Gates praised Adeyanju's effort on Twitter, saying he had accomplished an unbelievable feat.
Since April, when he began his London-to-Lagos bike journey to collect funds for Rotary International's fight against polio, which is still a concern in Africa, Adeyanju has been in the news.
The 44-year-old Nigerian traveled more than 13,000 kilometers (8,000 miles) across 13 nations on his journey.
As he told how he heard "various voices" amid the changing dunes of the Sahara Desert, the grueling trek drove him through spine-chilling ordeals.
He also recounted a near-death experience due to thirst in the hot, calcifying heat of Mauritania, and how Cote D’Ivoire authorities turned him back after riding to the country’s border.
After the 44-day long journey, he arrived in Nigeria on Sunday and was welcomed by a crowd of people at the Seme border of the country.
Reacting to the feat, Gates, in a tweet on his verified Twitter page on Tuesday evening, described the journey of the Nigerian as “incredible.”
Through Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the billionaire has been one of the leading contributors to the eradication of polio in Nigeria.

In March, Thomas became the first transgender athlete to win an NCAA
Division I title after winning the women's 500-yard freestyle event.
"Trans women are not a threat to women's sports" Thomas said in an interview with ABC on Tuesday, May 31.
Thomas said: "Trans people don't transition for athletics. We transition to be happy and authentic and our true selves."
"That's part of what kept me from transitioning for so long. The thing
is, I wasn't sure if I could continue swimming and doing the sport that I
love," Thomas said.
Speaking about when she began hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in 2019 during her sophomore year, she said;
"The mental and emotional changes actually happened very quickly," she
said. "I was feeling a lot better mentally, I was less depressed and I
lost muscle mass. I became a lot weaker and a lot slower in the water."
"I knew there would be scrutiny against me if I competed as a woman. I was prepared for that," she said. "But I also don't need anybody's permission to be myself and to do the sport that I love."
Thomas said "there are a lot of factors that go into a race," but the biggest difference now is that she is happy."It allows me to put my all into training and to racing," she said.
Now out of college, she has her eyes set on something bigger.
"It's been a goal of mine to just swim at an Olympic trials for a very long time and I would love to see that through,"

#jaiyeorie Elon Musk's Starlink's entry into the Nigerian telecoms sector is expected to spark a fresh wave of competition among the country's telecommunications service providers.
Customers who are now subscribed to internet service from MTN, Globacom, Airtel, 9mobile, and over 200 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) previously licensed by the Nigerian Communications Commission would have to compete with the new entrant (NCC).
According to Nairametrics, Starlink has secured two licenses from the NCC, including an International Gateway license and an ISP license.
With the ISP license, Starlink will compete with Nigeria's main ISPs, including Spectranet, FibreOne, Tizeti, and iPNX, as well as mobile network operators, who now account for the majority of internet users in the country.
Although Starlink will have an advantage over other service providers in that it will supply its service via satellite, which can be accessible from everywhere in the country, the company's sustainability will still be determined by its price competitiveness.

Ewan McGregor has taken to his social media to post a video in which he slammed the racists who have been attacking Moses Ingram following her debut in the new Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
According to Ingram, she received hundreds of such messages, which is heartbreaking. Some of the messages said that her “days are numbered.”
“Long story short, there are hundreds of those, hundreds,” said Ingram, who plays Reva Sevander—a Jedi-hunting Inquisitor—in the latest Star Wars series. “And I also see those of you out there who put on the cape for me and that really does mean the world to me. Because there’s nothing anybody can do about this. There’s nothing anybody can do to stop this hate.”
She added that she had of being expected to “shut up and take it” but she chose to do differently. “I’m not built like that,” Ingram said, before thanking those who have supported her.
This stirred heated reactions from other viewers and from the Star Wars franchise.
Now, McGregor, who plays Obi-Wan Kenobi, has released a video in which he condemned the racist bullying.
“It seems that some of this fan base… have decided to attack Moses Ingram online and send her the most horrendous, racist DMs and I heard some of them this morning and it just broke my heart,” he said. “Moses is a brilliant actor, she’s a brilliant woman, and she’s absolutely amazing in this series.”
