“Marriage is an achievement and a high accomplishment” – Pretty Mike sparks debate

#jaiyeorie  Pretty Mike of Lagos, weighs in on a general misconception about marriage and its debate on being an achievement or not.

According to Pretty Mike in an Instagram post, the concept of marriage is rather simplified compared to the effort put into building a successful home and a family.

In his words;

“Don’t allow anybody trick u by telling u, that marriage is not an achievement….Marriage is a high achievement, an accomplishment and a beautiful union to see two people or more come together and build a awesome home and family together……but if you beg to differ , then I can only assume that your conclusions are offsprings of a myopic perception or you are simply a product of a dysfunctional environment that never gave you the chance to appreciate the true beauty of marriage.

It really requires a great deal of tolerance, zeal, patience and compromise to work ; traits which are gradually diminishing in our society.

When I see couples who put in the extra effort , defy all odds and run over hurdles to make their union work both in real life and on social media … I applaud it because marriage itself is hard work.

So here’s me giving recognition and brownie points to the people who give me hope that somebody’s Daughter will find me one day,” he wrote.

In upcoming documentary “Justin Bieber: Our World,” the 27-year-old pop star tells his 24-year-old model wife, Hailey Baldwin, that he’s ready to begin a family with the beauty.

“My intention for 2021 is to continue to set goals and have fun while doing them. Make sure I put my family first and hopefully we squish out a nugget,” Bieber told his wife as the two spoke the morning before his New Year’s Eve 2020 concert.

“In 2021?” asked Baldwin, to which Bieber clarified he wanted to “start trying” at the end of 2021.

“We shall see,” the model replied.

Bieber and Baldwin have discussed the possibility of having kids in the past, previously sharing that they were taking their time.

“I love kids and I can’t wait to have my own,” the model told Vogue Arabia back in 2018. “I would say that now, that’s a closer reality, but definitely not anytime soon.”

Though she’s admitted to having her kids’ names picked out already — and Bieber’s spoken out about his desire for “daddy-daughter dates” one day — they’ve remained focused on soaking up married life.

“I’m not in a rush,” Bieber wrote to Baldwin in July 2019. “I just wanna enjoy you by yourself for a while!”

Paul McCartney blames John Lennon for The Beatles’ split

Paul McCartney has revisited the breakup of The Beatles, flatly disputing the suggestion that he was responsible for the group's demise.

The band's fans have long debated who was responsible for the breakup, with many blaming McCartney.

McCartney in an episode of BBC Radio 4's "This Cultural Life'' that is scheduled to air on October 24, said it was John Lennon who wanted to disband The Beatles.

He said; 

 

“I didn’t instigate the split. That was our Johnny.

“I am not the person who instigated the split. Oh no, no, no. John walked into a room one day and said ‘I am leaving the Beatles.’ Is that instigating the split, or not?”

 

McCartney said the group’s new manager Allen Klein advised them to keep shut about the split as he negotiated deals on their behalf, but that the now-79-year-old bassist got impatient and spilled the beans, making him the face of the band’s separation.

 

McCartney added that Lennon’s new passions with wife Yoko Ono such as the 1969 “bed-ins for peace” in Montreal and Amsterdam, were incompatible with the band continuing to write and record together.

National Leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, has affirmed the supremacy of God on every human being, saying only Him alone has the authority to take his life when it is time.

He however, stated that he is “Hale and hearty,” after a successful medical trip in United Kingdom.

Tinubu made the remarks on Sunday, in his “Thank you speech” during a grand reception to welcome him back home, organised by Governor Bababjide Samwo-Olu of Lagos State, onbehalf of the state government, held at the Lagos House, Marina.

The event is tagged: “Welcome Back Home Asiwaju.”

Recall that Tinubu, on Friday night, returned to the country, after a successful surgery operation on his right knee as well as rigorous post-surgery physiotherapy, spending about three months.

Eleven stories from five African countries have been selected for the 2nd Toyin Falola Prize.

LUNARIS, the organisation that instituted the prize in honour of eminent African scholar and foremost historian Professor Toyin Fálọlá, disclosed last Tuesday that the 11 stories were from 495 eligible entries received.

The stories are ‘Hold Day’ by Ghana’s Nana Adwoa Tweneboah Amponsah-Mensah; ‘Iphopho Le Vezandlebe’ by South Africa’s Tshepiso Mabula; ‘Scars Without a Wound’ by Nigerian David Okigbo; ‘Breaking the System’ by Adewunmi Aboyade and ‘Sinmot’ by Blessing Nwodo from Nigeria.

The others are ‘Inside the Eye’ by Kenyan, Racquel Anyango; ‘Eavesdroppers’ by Nigerian, Mary Ann Egbudom; ‘Should have listened to Mother’ by South African, Mandisi Nkomo and Lotanna Rising’ by Nigeria’s Michael Nwanolue.

The last two longlisted stories are ‘Hunger for Crystal’ by Ernestine-Vera Kabushemeye (Kenya) and ‘Superposition’ by Justin Clement (Nigeria).

The red carpet for BFI’s London Film Festival, celebrating the premiere of Idris Elba and Regina King’s movie The Harder They Fall.

Jay, a host of other stars were out in force to watch the premiere of The Harder They Fall, the Netflix Western directed by Jeymes Samuel.

The film, which is based on real-life figures from American history, follows an outlaw who reunited his gang to seek revenge on his enemy after finding out he is being released from prison.

Jay Z serves as a producer on the film, and says he wanted to be involved in the project to see black people represented in a western.

Fame seems to have shone on a young girl as former Nigerian Finance Minister and current Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has reacted to the photos of a young girl who rocked her signature outfit.

In the photos which have gone viral on social media, the yet to be identified girl rocked Okonjo’s signature traditional outfit as she posed for the camera in an adorable photo.

 

Like many Nigerians who have reacted to the photos, the Director-General stressed that the young girl indeed look like a resemblance to her younger self as she said she would like to know her name.

Sharing the photo via her Twitter handle, Dr Okonjo-Iweala wrote;

”This is the cutest young girl I’ve seen in her lookalike Nigerian outfit! I almost thought it was my younger self. I would like to know her name!”

 Christopher Ogbonna Kanu has surprised his wife Laura Ikeji with a new iPhone after their kids broke her Samsung.

In a post shared on Instagram, Laura Ikeji revealed her children broke her Samsung phone and had told the husband that if they had damaged her iPhone, which is meant for her work, he would have paid for it.

However, her husband surprised her by replacing the Samsung with an iPhone, and she now has two iPhones.

She captioned the post:I told him his kids broke my Samsung phone, and that if they had broken my iPhone which is my work phone, he’ll pay!! oh well, he came back now and replaced my small Samsung with an iPhone, now I have 2 iPhone pro max. The singer who made her acting debut on Kunle Afolyan’s latest film for Netflix, Swallow, revealed that the Banky W co-owned record label only wanted to promote her in a sexy way she wasn’t comfortable with it.

“When a female artiste wants to do music, the first thing any man will think of as a business man is be sexy…I know I’m sexy but I am also smart, i love God but it is also important to find a person or people who understands that….I think that to be fair on the label, a lot of times, they just didn’t see it, they are business men and did things as far their knowledge carried them…I should have been marketed as who I was and not just as a girl that is pretty and that can sing” Niyola said.

. Speaking further on her exit, she revealed that it wasn’t a happy event as she felt she didn’t reap dividend of the time, blood, sweat and tears invested in her career while with the label.

“Leaving EME wasn’t a happy event….it was not happy in the sense that when you invest time, your blood and all into something, you want to see it yield results …but it didn’t happen as expected…….it was sad for me cos i feel I should have done enough more while there…we are still friends now though, i am friends with everyone” Niyola stated.

 Zeelicious has shared not one but two budget-friendly meal ideas that’ll come in handy: a yam and palm oil sauce recipe and a moi-moi recipe.

Ingredients

For yam and oil sauce:

– 1/2 tuber yam
– 1 cup ugba
– 2 Kpanla fish
– 2 cups palm oil
– 1 tablespoon crayfish
– 2 seasoning cubes
– 1/2 tablespoon chopped fresh pepper
– 1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
– 1 onion bulb
– Salt to taste

For moi-moi:

– 3 cups beans
– 4 hard boiled eggs
– 1/4 groundnut Oil
– 6-7 chilli red peppers (tatashe)
– 3 pcs fresh pepper
– 2 onion bulbs
– 3 garlic cloves
– 3 seasoning cubes
– 2 tablespoons crayfish
– 1 table paprika
– Salt to Taste

 Kerry Hilson shared a video to her Instagram account of her much improved diving skills to show the world her progress from her 2020 diving mishap. In the video, Kerry dismounts from a zip line into a body of water. 

She’s able to partially put her hands in the diving position before entering the water, but she is not able to straighten her legs. She is overjoyed with excitement as she pops up from under the water and scores her dive a perfect 10, which she reevaluates in the caption and explains why she was not able to fully extend her arms. H&M is teaming with British Nigerian actor John Boyega for the launch of a sustainably developed men’s wear line.

Boyega has detailed numerous accounts of racist treatment throughout his life, which led him to become a vocal supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Staying true to his values, the 29-year-old actor was not afraid to put Disney on blast for what he perceived as the racist treatment and sidelining of his character Finn in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy.

“As you go along and all these issues pile on top, I just thought it was quite important to say something, so it’s not an elephant in the room,” Boyega explained in an interview at the time. “And I think that more conversations have even been bubbling with other actors now in different projects and franchises … things that they noticed as well. And it’s a conversation worth having, to be honest.”

Although he seems to have put the galaxy far, far away in his rearview mirror, Boyega is still working on ways to incorporate his values into his work.

Boyega has received critical acclaim for many of his acting roles, including “Small Axe,” for which he won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, or Television Film in 2020.

However, the “Attack the Block” star is looking to diversify his portfolio and branch out into new projects. He recently partnered with H&M in order to bring his sense of style to the masses.
