Harris participated in a march with Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff on Saturday during Capital Pride in Washington, D.C. She wore a “love is love” t-shirt as she walked with other Pride-goers to a rally at Freedom Plaza, telling them, “Happy Pride!”

She spoke briefly at the event, advocating for the passage of the Equality Act while expressing her and President Joe Biden’s commitment to advancing LGBTQ rights. “We need to make sure that our transgender community and our youth are all protected. We need, still, protections around employment and housing,” Harris said, according to NBC Washington. “There is so much more work to do, and I know we are committed.”

The Vice President also observed the fifth anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting on Twitter, paying tribute to the 49 people who were killed at the Orlando gay club on June 12, 2016.

“Five years ago, 49 LGBTQ+ people and allies were enjoying an evening out at Pulse Nightclub,” she wrote. “And then, in an instant, they were gone. Today, we remember those who died and their loved ones-and we recommit to building a world free from gun violence.”

Harris’ post came as President Biden issued his own statement announcing that he’ll sign a piece of legislation to name the nightclub a national memorial, which recently passed the House and Senate. He also advocated for stricter gun control and the passage of the Equality Act, acknowledging that the LGBTQ community is disproportionately impacted by gun violence, particularly transgender women of color.

“In the memory of all of those lost at the Pulse nightclub five years ago, let us continue the work to be a nation at our best-one that recognizes and protects the dignity and safety of every American,” Biden said in his statement.

Nigerian man kills wife, mother-in-law, commits suicide in USA

A 34-year-old Nigerian man recently separated from his wife has attacked her parents’ home in Douglasville, Georgia, United States, killing her and his mother-in-law before taking his own life.

Udoamaka Nwamu, of East Point, Fulton County, took a handgun to his in-laws’ home in Douglasville on Sunday, June 6, where his estranged wife, Kaliyah Nwamu, was staying, and fired shots into the front and back of the house on Long Lake Drive.

According to the police at Douglas County, Sheriff Tim Pounds, on Tuesday, June 8, the gunshots on Sunday, June 6, resulted in multiple 911 calls and deputies were dispatched to the house. Before they arrived, Nwamu had forced his way inside the home.

Deputies were met with gunfire from the house and were forced to take cover, while an emergency response team and hostage negotiator were sent to the scene.

New York museum announces plans to send looted artefacts to Nigeria

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has announced it is sending three artefacts back to Nigeria.

CNN reported that two of the works, a pair of 16th-century Benin Court brass plaques of a “Warrior Chief” and “Junior Court Official,” were donated to the museum in 1991 by the art dealer Klaus Perls and his wife Dolly

The third, a 14th-century “Ife Head,” was recently offered to the museum for purchase by another collector.

According to the report, the museum decided to return the works after conducting research in collaboration with the British Museum, with input from the Nigerian National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM).

The two plaques had been part of a 153-piece collection of African royal treasures given to the museum by the Perlses 30 years ago.

Among the collection were brass figures, carved elephant ivory, masks, jewelleries and musical instruments.

According to the museum, the plaques were taken in 1897 from the Benin Royal Palace, by British military forces and then entered the British Museum’s collection.

Tyler Perry is bringing back his beloved Madea character for Netflix

According to multiple reports, the mogul will direct, write and star in the film titled A Madea Homecoming, which is slated for a 2022 release. Will Areu and Mark Swinton will serve as producers for the film, while Perry and Michelle Sneed will executive produce. As of now, plot details about the movie have not been revealed.

On Tuesday (June 8), Perry — and Madea — announced the news on social media. “This is Madea saying I’m coming back, and I’m on Netflix,” she said. “I can’t wait to tell you.”

“Madea’s coming to Netflix,” the director added. “We need to laugh man. Too much is going on in the country.”

Back in 2019, Perry revealed that Madea would be making her final appearance in the film A Madea Family Funeral, which grossed $75 million at the global box office. “I don’t want to be her age playing her, so it was time to shut it down and move on. I’ve got some other things I want to do, and in this next 50, I’m going to do something different,” he previously told The Hollywood Reporter.

However, he has been quietly developing Madea’s return since last fall. “I was done with Madea, completely done with it,” Perry told Variety. “But as I’ve been looking at the state of the world — and I finished a tour in January, just before the pandemic started to break in the country — and the amount of joy and laughter that it brought to so many people, that’s what I think is missing. We need that laughter and that joy.”

Previously, Netflix teamed up with Perry for the American thriller film A Fall From Grace. The movie was seen by 39 million households in the first month of being released. They are also teaming up for A Jazzman’s Blues, a film starring Joshua Boone and Solea Pfeiffer that will unravel 40 years of lies and secrets in a tale of forbidden love and family drama.

Florida Youth Minister Arrested After Teen Finds Hidden Camera in Church Bathroom

37-year-old Calvary Baptist Church employee David Nims has been arrested and charged with felony voyeurism after a 14-year-old discovered a hidden camera in the church bathroom.

:

He was charged with video voyeurism by an adult responsible for the welfare of a child younger than 16, but Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said that “additional charges are likely.” Authorities were first notified about Nims on Sunday (June 6) after a 14-year-old child discovered a camera hidden beneath a sink inside a bathroom in the youth hallway of the church.

According to Nims’ arrest report, authorities reviewed videos stored on the camera and discovered the 14-year-old was recorded while in the bathroom. A second video contained on the device allegedly showed Nims picking up the camera from the underside of another bathroom. Authorities suspect that Nims could have used the camera at other locations besides the one bathroom at the church where it was discovered.

“Our investigators are now going through those pieces of electronics to determine if there is anything on them to indicate that any other crimes have been committed,” added Sheriff Simmons. He was booked into Escambia County Jail on $10,000 bond this Monday and has since been released. 

It is not immediately clear if Nims has been let go by the church. “We stand ready as a church to provide care and ministry to anyone or any victims who come forward as we are informed,” Church Pastor Walt Magaha told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

El Salvador adopts Bitcoin as legal tender, first in the world

El Salvador has become the first country in the world to adopt the cryptocurrency Bitcoin as legal tender.

The adoption came after President Nayib Bukele’s proposals to embrace cryptocurrency were approved by congress.

On Tuesday night, lawmakers voted in favour of the plan with 62 out of 84 possible votes.

SERAP drags Buhari before ECOWAS Court over Twitter ban in Nigeria

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, and 176 concerned Nigerians have filed a lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari-led -administration over what it called, “the unlawful suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, criminalization of Nigerians and other people using Twitter.

In the suit No ECW/CCJ/APP/23/21 filed on Tuesday, before the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in Abuja, SERAP and the concerned Nigerians are seeking: “An order of interim injunction restraining the Federal Government from implementing its suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, and subjecting anyone including media houses, broadcast stations using Twitter in Nigeria, to harassment, intimidation, arrest and criminal prosecution, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.”

National Census may hold 2022 – NPC Chairman

The National Population Commission (NPC) has said that it may conduct another national census in 2022.

However, this is subject to the commission completing pre-census activities such as demarcation, administering questionnaire and seeking approval of the President.

NPC Federal Commissioner in Gombe State, Abubakar Danburam, revealed this on Tuesday during a press conference.

He spoke on behalf of the chairman of the commission, Nasir Kwarra.

A 28-year-old Frenchman, Damien Tarel has explained to the court the reason behind his decision to slap the country’s President, Emmanuel Macron.

But despite his best efforts, Tarel was handed a four month jail for slapping his president.

In video that went viral around the globe, Tarel had let fly at the French president when he (Macron) was exchanging pleasantries with members of the public during a trip in France’s Drome region. Watch a clip of the incident here.

The 28-year-old told the court on Thursday that he had thought about other ways to embarrass the President several days ahead of Macron’s visit to the region.

Tarel said he had thought about throwing an egg or a cream tart at the president, but added the slap was not premeditated.

“I think that Macron represents very neatly the decay of our country,” he told the court, according to BFM TV.

“If I had challenged Macron to a duel at sunrise, I doubt he would have responded.”

He added that he was angered by Macron’s “friendly” looks. The court handed him an 18-month jail term out of which 14 is suspended.

For his first event on CNN, with Alisyn Camerota said to him: “In October, you were on a Zoom call with your colleagues from the New Yorker magazine. Everyone took a break for several minutes, during which time you were caught masturbating on camera. You were subsequently fired from that job, after 27 years of working there. And you, since then, have been on leave from CNN. Do I have all that right?” He confirmed that was correct, and then she said “What the hell were you thinking?” He replied: “Well, obviously, I wasn’t thinking very well or very much. Usman, who announced his intention to visit Nigeria after smashing his teammate, Gilbert Burns, has been making the rounds since hitting the country Wednesday.

The undisputed welterweight champion is in Nigeria to initiate a community activation plan in his native Edo State, and paid a courtesy visit to Governor Yahaya Bello in Kogi State today, Thursday.

Kim Kardashian revealed that she’s failed the baby bar exam again in the season finale of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

The reality star has long spoken about her ambition to become a lawyer, but has been struggling to pass her first year exam.

In the episode, the mum-of-four was seen nervously checking the California State Bar website to see if she had passed, while on the phone to her lawyers Erin Haney and Jessica Jackson.
