United Negro College Fund Elects Its First-Ever Black Board Chair

The United Negro College Fund has long been one of the premier organizations aimed at providing financial support for Black students attending Black colleges.The 77-year-old institution made the announcement this week with an official press release noting that Atlanta business leader and civic activist Milton H. Jones Jr., a co-founding member of Peachtree Providence Partners Holding Company, had been elected chair of the UNCF board of directors, becoming the first African American to serve in that position.
The release notes that previous past board chairs have included late philanthropist John D. Rockefeller III; Michael H. Jordan, the late former chairman and chief executive officer of PepsiCo Worldwide Foods, and Jack Stahl, Revlon’s former president and chief executive officer.
In his role as UNCF chairman of the board, Jones will be charged with growing the endowment that benefits the 37 historically Black colleges and universities that belong to the UNCF network of member institution.
Dr. Michael L. Lomax, the Black former president of Dillard University and current UNCF president and CEO, has no doubt that Jones’ experience will be a benefit to the organization.“Milton brings a wealth of business knowledge,” said Lomax, who previously taught at Morehouse College and Spelman College, “and a thoughtful and collaborative leadership approach that will help us thrive and continue to drive UNCF’s and our HBUCs’ impact and growth.”
In the announcement statement, Jones said, “Since 1944, UNCF has played an integral role in changing the life trajectory for each student it has served, and l look forward to continuing that legacy.
Our member institutions and students remain the focus of our collective efforts,” he continued. “As we progress each year, we will grow our organization by building upon the strong foundation laid at UNCF’s inception and strengthened throughout its history.”Jones is vice chairman of the Meharry Medical College Board of Trustees, is the treasurer and a board member of 100 Black Men of America and co-chair of the Atlanta chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors. He serves on the advisory boards of the Metro Atlanta YMCA, Boy Scouts and the Commerce Club. Jones also is a member of the Downtown Atlanta Rotary Club and a member and past chairman of The Atlanta Business League and of 100 Black Men of Atlanta.
At Peachtree Providence Partners, Jones advises and collaborates with CEOs in key sectors that include financial services, healthcare, technology, government and higher education.
Prior to that role, he was an executive at Bank of America for 32 years

The victim is a 17-old-year old student of the university.
The 41-year-old lecturer was arrested following a complaint at the Ota Area Command by the girl’s parents.
They reported their daughter called she was invited by the lecturer to his office on Thursday under the pretence of planning a surprise birthday party for her close friend.
But on getting to Dr. Stephen’s office, he reportedly seized her, locked the door and forcefully had s.e.x with her atop a table.

Per the outlet, the book, Hospital by the Hill, follows the “story of a young person coming to terms with the loss of their mother who was a frontline worker at a hospital. The book’s touching theme—that can speak to children of all walks of life who have recently lost a loved one—is one of the reasons why the Duke of Sussex chose to personally support the project.”

An Indianapolis man has been arrested for shooting the mother of his child and killing 4 of her family members, including her 7-year-old daughter, following a dispute over the US coronavirus stimulus check.
Malik Halfacre, 25, was arrested on Sunday, March 14, a day after the shootings, and is expected to face murder, robbery, and attempted-murder charges, according to the police and Indiana jail records.
After 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, police received a report of a person shot in a home on North Randolph Street. There, the police said, officers found a woman who was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds. That victim told the police that there were additional victims at another home, also on North Randolph Street.
At the second home, the police found 4 gunshot victims whom they identified as Eve Moore, 7; Daquan Moore, 23; Anthony Johnson, 35; and Tomeeka Brown, 44. They were all pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical workers, the police said.
The woman who was shot at the first house was identified by the police as Jeanettrius Moore. She told the police that Mr. Halfacre was her boyfriend and that after the shooting, he had taken the couple’s 6-month-old child, Malia Halfacre. It was not clear how Mr. Halfacre knew the people in the second house.

Eze was arrested by EFCC operatives along ‘K Line area’ of Ewet Housing Estate in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, following a petition.
The petitioner alleged that Eze used his position as Head of Sales for Procter & Gamble, to supply goods worth over N20m to customers and converted the proceeds into personal use.
According to the complainant, the suspect between March 2020 and January 2021, sold goods worth the said amount and fraudulently collected monies from various customers using his personal account rather than the company’s account.
Investigations into the matter revealed that the suspect was a gambling addict as he spent over N4m placing bets on daily basis with almost nothing to show for it.
Former Sierra Leone goalkeeper, Alhaji Sesay, 22, jailed for 10 years for rape and attempted rape

Former Sierra Leone and Bristol City goalkeeper, Alhaji Sesay has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after raping and attempting to rape 2 women in separate attacks.
The 22-year-old pleaded not guilty on all counts, but he was found guilty and sentenced to 4 years for attempted rape in Bristol and six years for rape and attempted rape in London.
He was cleared of a 2nd rape charge prior to Wednesday's sentencing at Bristol Crown Court.
Sesay’s 4-week trial heard how the first incident took place at a nightclub in Bristol city centre on 11 July 2019. There, closed-circuit television showed him entering the women’s restrooms, where he grabbed his victim, pushed her against the wall before sexually assaulting her.
The victim managed to break free and get help from her friends and door staff, resulting in Sesay being detained and arrested at the scene.
He was convicted on Wednesday, March 17, by a Bristol court of one count of rape and two of attempted rape against two separate women.

LeBron James just scored himself another major win with a new business move; a partnership with FSG to become part-owner of the Boston Red Sox.
The basketballer and his business partner, Maverick Carter, have obtained shares of Fenway Sports Group, which is the parent company of the Red Sox, making them the first black partners in FSG history.
This move makes the duo minority shareholders and minority owners in the Boston Red Sox as well as other FSG subsidiaries, including NESN, Roush Fenway Racing, and Fenway Sports Management.
The exact amount of shares owned by LeBron has not been disclosed.
