Justice Nnamdi Dimgba said the Central Bank of Nigeria and all banks should immediately stop further collections of stamp duties from Nigerians because there was no provision for such taxes under the Stamp Duties Act.
The judgement came on December 9 in a case filed against the CBN, Zenith Bank and the attorney-general by Rupert Irikefe, a businessman.
Mr. Irikefe was also awarded N500,000 in damages for the inconveniences he suffered when deductions were imposed on his bank account starting in January 2016.

Brandon Bernard, who was put on death row for his involvement in a burglary-turned-murder in 1999, was executed on Thursday, December 10, after Kim Kardashian made an appeal to President Donald Trump to allow Bernard to stay his sentence in prison.
The Supreme Court denied the last-minute appeal from his legal team and Bernard was given a lethal injection of phenobarbital at the federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Bernard used his final words to apologize to the families of Todd and Stacie Bagley and said “I’m sorry.”

FKA Twigs has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles against Shia LaBeouf for alleged “relentless abuse,” court documents states.
The singer filed the suit against the actor on Friday, December 11, alleging some very disturbing and graphic things done to her, during the course of her relationship with LeBeouf.
Born Tahliah Barnett, the singer-songwriter who was engaged to Robert Pattison in the past, claims that while involved with LaBeouf, she was the victim of sexual battery, assault and emotional distress. The suit also claims the actor knowingly gave BFKA Twigs an STD, along with a number of other allegations.

Justice N.I. Buba of the Federal High Court, Enugu handed over the sentence on Thursday.
Nwankwo was prosecuted by the Enugu Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a six-count charge, bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of N1,153,700.00.
The money was obtained by fraud from some students of the school in contravention of Section 1(1)(a) of Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and Punishable under Section 1(3) of the Same Act.
Nwankwo’s journey to prison began when one Eze and 19 other students of the school petitioned the Enugu Zonal Office of the EFCC, alleging that they were deceived into believing that the school was partly owned by the Enugu State government and accredited by the appropriate authorities.

On November 28, over 40 farmers were killed by Boko Haram at Zabarmari in Borno state.

Speaking on a Channels TV programme on Thursday, the defence minister said the Buhari administration has subdued Boko Haram, and urged Nigerians to appreciate the government’s effort.
“The problem of this country is that we always forget too soon. Look in 2015 backwards, 2014, 2013; if you remember the situation in this country. In Kano, 200 people were massacred in the mosque. The Emir of Kano was also attacked. The road from Kano to Kaduna and Abuja were impassable. We had over 20 roadblocks from Kaduna to Abuja. It takes you almost 15 hours to reach where you are coming from. Even in Abuja, there were bombings. Everywhere in Nigeria in those years, you find that there were commotions, no security, people can’t even move,” he said.

Ruona Meyer accused Kiki Mordi of refusing to acknowledge another journalist who, Meyer alleged, came up with the idea for #SexForGrades–the highly successful BBC documentary, led by Kiki Mordi, which brought her to the limelight.
Mordi was dragged on social media by trolls following that accusation.
Now, she has taken to her page to set the records straight. “1st phase of research was already on going when I joined. There were leads already and infact I was one of the leads (another funny story) Most of the other journalists were staff. So do you see how wild it is to accuse me of coming from outside to steal a BBC’s staff story?” she wrote.
And she said a lot more, even addressed the journalist who is alleged to be the mind behind the #SexForGrades story.

Nigerian singer, Ikuforiji Abdulrahman Olaitan more popularly known as Oxlade has earned a spot for himself on Rolling Stone magazine as his song, ‘Away’ has been named one of the ’50 Best Songs of 2020′ by the top American magazine.
The song was ranked 23 on the list, which was released on Monday, and featured music heavyweights like Meghan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Bob Dylan, The Weeknd and Taylor Swift.
The US-based magazine, in its assessment, commended the creativity put into the song which makes it danceable.
“There are no words wasted here — ‘Away’ is composed of just two
four-line verses, a pair of lovely prehooks consisting of two repeated
couplets, and a chorus made up of one word: ‘away’,” it wrote.

Former US President Barack Obama has revealed how opposition figures tried to use the case of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Nigerian ‘underwear bomber’, against his re-election bid in 2012, in his book, ‘A Promised Land’. The book is the first volume of his recently published memoir. In it, Obama regretted not interrupting his vacation in Hawaii to talk to Americans immediately after Abdulmutallab’s failed attempt to bomb a Northwest Airlines flight between Amsterdam and Detroit on Christmas 2009. That, he said, was used by his opponents and critical commentators to accuse him of worrying more about his vacation than about threatening American life. Abdulmutallab, then 23, tried unsuccessfully to point to a bomb wired to his underwear on a flight that was to land in Detriot, Michigan - with 289 people on board. Smoke and flames under his blanket alerted the passenger who immobilized him before the fire was extinguished and the plane landed safely.

Staffers and sources “with knowledge of the situation” dished to BuzzFeed News about the true state of the midday staple, claiming that the show has lost advertisers, is now struggling to book A-list guests and has seen a significant dip in ratings.
2 employees claim that the production of digital content has taken a nosedive due to a lack of advertiser funds, resulting in the series re-airing old bits. The loss of sponsors can be accredited to both the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as months of bad publicity.

They also detailed their newfound struggle in booking talent.

G Herbo and his fiancée Taina Williams are expecting their first child together.
While the pregnancy has been expected for a while, the confirmation came via the rapper’s attorney during a court hearing.
The news was revealed during a Wednesday court hearing for Herbo’s federal fraud case, in which he and several of his crew members are accused of using stolen credit cards and IDs to make extravagant purchases.

Dr. Ann Amuta opened Twitter to use her marriage as an example of why couples should make friendships - not sex, raids or butterflies - the basis of marriage.
The Nigerian, who works as an assistant professor at the School of Health Promotion and Kinesiology at the Texas Women's University, explained that the pandemic forced her and her husband to work from home for months and spend all hours with each other, their friendship sustained them.
She wrote: "Thanks to the pandemic, my husband and I both work fully from home and are together 24/7; yet, we still somehow like each other. We can gist and laugh for hours and are never tired of each other’s company. This is not a result of love but a deep friendship.
"Before you marry anyone, make sure there’s a friendship there - not just goosebumps, butterflies and sex. Friendship is the foundation of an enjoyable marriage."

Wendy critiqued the 79-year-old’s catchy tweets and referred to an old marijuana charge.
The ‘Wendy Willams Show’ host included a story about the legendary R&B singer during a recent airing of the talk show ,Warwick was alerted by one of her friends about the situation. It’s unclear what was said, but Dionne replied Wendy on Twitter and warn her to keep her name out of her mouth.

iCarly is making a return to television.The Nickelodeon series that spawned countless memes is getting a reboot on the Paramount Plus streaming service.Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress are all set to reprise their roles for the new version.
The original “iCarly” ran from 2007-2012 on Nickelodeon for six seasons and 97 episodes. followed a group of best friends creating a webcast while grappling with everyday problems and adventures. During its original run, the show proved to be incredibly popular and broke ratings records for Nickelodeon.
The move to program the series on Paramount Plus rather than Nickelodeon is no surprise, given that all major media companies are rushing to build out their streaming offerings. Some streamers have already programmed similar shows, with NBCUniversal’s Peacock having recently launched a sequel series to “Saved by the Bell” with several original cast members reprising their roles.

Today marks 15 years since the Sosoliso Airlines flight 1145 crash-landed in Port Harcourt airport resulting in the death of 108 people on board including 60 students of Loyola Jesuit College Abuja, Pastor Bimbo Odukoya and Nollywood actress, Uchenna Nnanna's sister, Olaedo.
Taking to Facebook on Thursday morning, Uchenna Nnanna-Maduka's sister, Ngozi Nnanna Noel Ogamba, paid a touching tribute to their late sister. Read below:

We will never forget. The Sosoliso Plane Crash blew you and the other 108 passengers away leaving behind 2 survivors. Omagwa PH Airport witnessed a tragedy it is yet to recover from 15 whole years after.

Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has assured Nigeria and other African countries access to COVID-19 vaccines from the end of January until the first quarter of 2021. A Foreign Ministry statement quoted Okonjo-Iweala on Wednesday after a closed-door meeting with Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama in Abuja.
“As long as one person has it in the world, no one is safe. And that is why poorer countries, lower-middle-income countries like Nigeria, need to get it as quickly as possible”, she was quoted as saying.

A retired chief superintendent of police (CSP),Carol Afegbai, sued the Edo State Judicial Commission of Inquiry for Victims of SARS and Related Abuse for issuing an arrest warrant against her after she failed to appear before it.
Recall that the panel ordered the arrest of Ms. Afegbai for not appearing before him. The panel summoned Ms. Afegbai for her alleged complicity in the murder of Ibrahim Momodu, a student at the University of Benin, in 2015.
She was the divisional police officer at the Ogida Police Station in Benin City when Mr. Momodu, a 500-level student at the Faculty of Laboratory Sciences, was killed near his family home at No.1 St. Igbobaewaye, near Siluko Road, near the junction of the textile factory.

Two suspected cattle thieves and a shepherd were arrested by men from the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps.
The arrests were made following an attack by the suspects on members of the body. Similarly, men from the security agency seized 16 cows that destroyed crops from farmers in the Osi community, in Akure North local government area, while an unlicensed gun and other weapons were recovered from them.
According to the corps commander, Adetunji Adeleye, who disclosed the arrest at the agency's headquarters in Akure, it was surprising to his men that instead of heeding the advice to prevent their cattle from further destroying crops on farmland, the ranchers began to attack the officers of Amotekun during which one of them was overpowered and arrested along with sixteen of the devastating cows.
Recounting how the cattle thieves were arrested, the commander said the men were apprehended, with the help of intelligence.
