Dr. Ann Amuta opened Twitter to use her marriage as an example of why couples should make friendships - not sex, raids or butterflies - the basis of marriage. The Nigerian, who works as an assistant professor at the School of Health Promotion and Kinesiology at the Texas Women's University, explained that the pandemic forced her and her husband to work from home for months and spend all hours with each other, their friendship sustained them.

She wrote: "Thanks to the pandemic, my husband and I both work fully from home and are together 24/7; yet, we still somehow like each other. We can gist and laugh for hours and are never tired of each other’s company. This is not a result of love but a deep friendship.

"Before you marry anyone, make sure there’s a friendship there - not just goosebumps, butterflies and sex. Friendship is the foundation of an enjoyable marriage."
