N924m debt: Court fines Nwankwo Kanu, hotel N30,000 for delaying proceedings

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday fined ex-international Nwankwo Kanu and his hotel Hardley Apartment N30,000 for stalling the scheduled hearing of debt recovery suit brought against them by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

AMCON had dragged Hardley Apartment, its directors, Ayoola Gam-Ikon and Kanu, before the court over alleged debt of N924.7 million.

At the hearing of the matter, the respondents’ lawyer T. A. Idelegbagbon told the court that she was withdrawing all motions earlier filed in response to the suit in 2017.

But AMCON’s counsel Jayes Ujah urged the court to fine the respondents for filing frivolous motions, adding that he had already filed his response to the processes sought to be withdrawn.

Mr Ujah also asked the court to dismiss all new processes filed by the respondents on the ground that they contained facts that were earlier admitted to.

After listening to the submissions of both parties, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke granted the respondents’ request for withdrawal of the motions, and ordered them to pay a fine of N30,000 for stalling further hearing in the matter.

Justice Oyekan-Abdullahi made the order sequel to a motion filed and argued by the plaintiffs’ counsel, Adetunji Adedoyin-Adeniyi of AAA Chambers.

Appearing on the first episode of REVOLT’s new show “Assets Over Liabilities,” the “Aston Martin Music” artist revealed that he bought a house in Atlanta just because he could.

“Homes was something I was always fascinated about,” he said. “So me and my homies started coming up to Atlanta. We used to ride by here all the time [we would pull over] and just be like Godd–n.

“After I got my deal and my situation, I bought a million-dollar home maybe two minutes from here that I still own that’s right around the corner, just so I can ride by it every day while I’m in Atlanta, and that’s what the play was,” Ross explained.

Meanwhile, in March, the Mississippi-born rapper purchased a $3.5 million Florida estate. He also has a 109-room estate in Georgia that made an impression on Diddy and is where scenes from Eddie Murphy’s “Coming 2 America” movie were filmed.

A Twitter user who goes by the name Arunse recently tweeted that D’banj co-wrote the song with Iyanya.

“So Kukere by Iyanya was co-written by D’banj? Wow we learn everyday sha…this song brings me good Ol’ memories fr,” the tweet read.

Responding on Wednesday, the singer corrected the user saying that the original version of the song was written by him, while D’banj wrote his won verse in the remix of the song.

Adele Reveals the Origins of 'Hello' to Oprah Winfrey in Clip from Upcoming Concert Special

The singer, 33, revealed to Oprah Winfrey in an interview clip from the special shared Wednesday that although the performance is in celebration of her new album 30, she will begin with her 2015 hit “Hello.”

“I’m always going to start with ‘Hello,’ ” she said. “It’d be a bit weird if it was like, halfway through the set, you know? So yeah, I’m starting with it.”

The “Easy on Me” singer explained that “Hello” was “the beginning of me trying to find myself, and I hadn’t figured out yet what it was that I had to do for that.”

She went on to explain the song’s importance to her, noting that she was addressing her past and future self in its lyrics.

“When I wrote it, it was a real ode to like, little me, older me, all of these things,” she said. “It’s just a song about like, ‘I’m still here.’ Like, ‘Hi, I’m still here, I still exist in every aspect of my life.’ ”

Adele released “Hello” in October 2015 as the lead single off her third studio album, 25.

The ballad was a massive success, topping the Billboard Hot 100, winning multiple Grammy awards, and even getting its own Saturday Night Live sketch.

Ahead of the release of her highly anticipated album 30 on Nov. 19, Adele will be performing new music from the album, along with some of her biggest hits, during a two-hour CBS special titled Adele One Night Only.

The performance, which will air on Nov. 14, will also feature an interview with Winfrey, 67, in which the star discusses the stories behind her new songs, life after divorce, weight loss and raising her son.

In announcing her album to the world last month, Adele told fans she had “learned a lot of blistering truths” about herself during its creation, but that she finally felt she was in a place where she was comfortable releasing her music to the world.

“I feel like I’ve finally found my feeling again. I’d go as far as to say that I’ve never felt more peaceful in my life,” she wrote in a social media statement. “And so, I’m ready to finally put this album out.”

Adele One Night Only will air Sunday, Nov. 14 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.

Vanessa Bryant, wife of the late Kobe Bryant, has filed four trademark applications for a wine named after her late husband, according to TMZ Sports. Per the outlet, Bryant submitted the documents under Kobe Bryant, LLC on Nov. 5 to secure trademarks for “Mambo Vino,” “Mamba Vino 2024,” “Mamba Vino 8” and “Mamba Vino 24,” which means a Kobe-inspired wine brand could be hitting store shelves very soon. “Vino” was a nickname that was given to the NBA star because many people thought he got better with age.

This is the latest business move by Bryant as she continues to deal with legal matters regarding her husband and daughter’s tragic deaths. As REVOLT previously reported, last month, the widow filed to trademark “KB24” to create a sports and entertainment empire to honor Kobe.

The name will reportedly be used for websites, broadcasting platforms, digital collectible items, training camps, podcasts, music, TV shows, movies and documentaries. She also wants to include food and drink containers, T-shirts and sports cards.

Back in March, Bryant also filed to trademark “Mamba” and “Mambacita” to launch a sneaker and clothing brand in honor of the late basketball legend and their daughter. An attorney for Kobe Bryant, LLC filed a trademark application in hopes to secure the rights to the nicknames, which will reportedly be used for shirts, skirts, pants, shorts, bottoms, socks, dresses, jackets and hoodies — in addition to sweatbands, sneakers and other workout attire.

Earlier this month, Coca-Cola announced that it paid $5.6 billion to acquire the remaining 85 percent controlling stake in BodyArmor, which Kobe was a major investor in. He invested early in the energy drink, purchasing a 10 percent stake in the company for $6 million back in 2014. At the time, the NBA champion was the third-largest investor in the brand. Subsequently, his estate profited around $400 million from the sale.

Hudson, who plays Aretha Franklin in the new biopic Respect, gave her first performance at the CMA Awards with Franklin’s arrangement of Willie Nelson’s “Night Life,” starting the song off low and slow before ramping it up with brassy horn hits and explosive vocal runs. Stapleton joined in behind Hudson on guitar.

After a brief interlude, the second half of the performance featured Stapleton’s smoldering take on “You Are My Sunshine,” which he and wife Morgane recorded for Dave Cobb’s multi-artist Southern Family project. Hudson chimed in with some soaring ad libs of her own before the song shifted from a blues shuffle to a full gallop.

Stapleton began the evening tied with Eric Church for the event’s most nominations, including Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year (which he won), and Male Vocalist of the Year. He’s currently headlining shows on his All-American Road Show tour, including a pair of Nashville dates Dec. 10 and 11.

Earlier in the CMA Awards show, Stapleton and a string section performed his song “Cold,” off his CMA Album of the Year winner Starting Over.

Again, Ogun pensioners block Governor’s Office over unpaid gratuities

Again, scores of local government pensioners in Ogun State on Thursday shut down the state secretariat in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta while protesting the alleged non-payment of their 10-year outstanding gratuities.

The pensioners, under the auspices of Local Government Pensioners’ Association of Nigeria, had in September blocked the two main gates of the secretariat in protest.

The pensioners had also in June staged a similar protest to express their grievances.

On Thursday, the retirees took to the streets once again to demand an audience with the state governor, Dapo Abiodun.

The aggrieved pensioners, who stormed the state secretariat around 9am, met stiff resistance from security operatives, in an attempt to shut the two gates leading into the seat of power.

There was a struggle between the retirees and security personnel who made frantic efforts to stop the protesters from shutting down the exit points.

The angry retirees, however, overwhelmed the security men and locked up the gates.

For about 30 minutes, the retirees took over the gates and prevented people from entering or leaving the state secretariat.

Chidinma transferred N50,000 for apartment from Ataga’s account after death – Owner

Nkechi Mogbo, the owner of the short service apartment used by the murdered Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Michael Ataga, has told the court how he rented her apartment.

A 300-level Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos, Chidinma Ojukwu, was accused of killing the 50-year-old man.

Chidinma and two others, Adedapo Quadri and Chioma Egbuchu, are undergoing trial before Justice Yetunde Adesanya of the Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos State.

Mogbo, while testifying on Thursday, told the court that she had a self-service apartment rented out for short service accommodation.

She said, “The apartment is fully furnished with cable TV, 24-hour power services, and a well-equipped kitchen. Couples and people from out of town who come in for weddings regularly book the apartment online or through referrals from agents.”

The witness, while being led in evidence in chief by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs Adeyinka Adeyemi, said, “On June 13, around 4pm, a lady called me on the telephone with a private number and requested for the apartment. The lady requested to see the apartment to ensure that the facilities were up to the standard she needed.”

The witness said after visiting the apartment, the lady, through WhatsApp message, confirmed that she would take the apartment for three days.

The caption, however, captured the attention of many who questioned how she ended up in a private jet with Obasanjo without shoes on.

Cruise post: Tony Elumelu replies Daddy Freeze

 Freeze has successfully gotten the attention of one of the most respected businessmen in Africa — Billionaire Tony Elumelu.

Freeze joking called out the billionaire for not following him back on instagram, despite he has been following him for over a year has now gotten a reply from him.

Freeze sent him a DM telling him that, on instagram streets, when someone gets a follow, the person follows back.

He then shared the DM he sent the billioniare and captioned it;

UNHURT: Terrence J Shot At During Attempted ‘Follow-Home’ Robbery on Valley Vista Boulevard In Sherman Oaks

Terrence J is lucky to be alive following an attempted follow-home robbery early Wednesday (November 10) morning.

 

According to a report from TMZ, Terrence Jenkins, was approached by a group of armed men just as he was returning to his residence on Valley Vista Boulevard in Sherman Oaks around 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Police report that as he pulled into his driveway, a silver Jeep Cherokee with four Black men inside pulled up as well. One of the men demanded that he exit his vehicle. The men did not enter his home.

The actor refused and hurriedly pulled out of his driveway, fleeing down the road. Jenkins reported to police that the car gave chase and fired at his vehicle while in pursuit at Sepulveda Boulevard and Moorpark Street. Thankfully, Jenkins was not struck. He managed to flag down a California Highway Patrol vehicle for assistance, causing the Jeep to flee in a different direction.

The Highway Patrolman then contacted the LAPD on his behalf. He filed an official report for assault with a deadly weapon, and police are reportedly now investigating.

 

 Meanwhile, back at his house, a woman was inside with the alarm blaring waiting for police to rescue her. The Los Angeles Police Department moved quickly to clear the house and the woman inside was unhurt. EFCC arrests ex-Edo Governor, Lucky Igbinedion

 Mr Lucky Igbinedion, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over alleged criminal diversion of public funds to the tune of N1.6bn.

The former Edo governor arrived at the headquarters of the EFCC, at Jabi, Abuja, on Thursday and is still being quizzed as of the time of filing this report.

Shortly after his exit as governor in 2007, Igbinedion was prosecuted by the EFCC and convicted of corruption.

But the new investigation, according to a source at the anti-graft agency, was based on fresh evidence against him.

The source said that the former governor diverted a loan obtained by the Edo State Government to finance an investment during his tenure, to settle the financially indebtedness of a company in which he had interest.

Igbinedion was replaced as Edo helmsman by Prof Osaremhen Osunbur, who was later ousted by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

FG says N58bn disbursed to ‘poor’ Nigerians in 2 months

The Federal Government claims it has disbursed N58billion to Nigerians in the past 2 months under the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT).

Halima Shehu, National Coordinator, Household Uplifting Programme – Conditional Cash Transfer (HUP – CCT) made the disclosure on Thursday in Yola, the Adamawa state capital.

Speaking at the launch of a 2-day step down training on HUP-CCT orientation and sensitization of beneficiaries, she said the programme was initiated to support development objectives with the priority of improving households’ consumption.

Shehu noted that poverty and hunger are high among rural dwellers, especially female-headed households with little sources of income.

The government established the HUP – CCT, with ‘Beta don come’ slogan to assist the lower class, Shehu explained.

“In the last two months, across the country, the Federal Government has disbursed the sum of N58billion to the less privileged”, NAN quoted her as saying.
