Governor Sanwo-Olu presents N1.168 trillion budget for 2020

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday, November 8th presented a budget of N1.168 trillion to the Lagos State House of Assembly for approval for the 2020 fiscal year.  

The proposed budget is to be funded by a projected Total Revenue of N1.071 trillion and a deficit amounting to N97.53 billion. The budget size is higher than the 2019 budget by 34%. Capital Expenditure amounts to N723.75 billion while the Recurrent Expenditure is N444.81 billion, giving a 62:38 capital to recurrent ratio.

Former Chairman of Pension Reform Task Team (PRTM), Abdulrasheed Maina, was on Thursday, wheeled into Court 6, Federal High Court, Abuja, where his bail application is expected to be taken.

Maina, dressed in light green colour caftan, was in a wheelchair, looking pensive and sickly.

Maina had, on Oct. 25, arraigned alongside a firm, Common Input Property and Investment Ltd, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice Okon Abang.

He was charged with 12 counts bordering on money laundering, operating fictitious bank accounts and fraud.

Scientists discover first new HIV strain in 19 years

For the first time in 19 years, a team of scientists has detected a new strain of HIV.

The strain is a part of the Group M version of HIV-1, the same family of virus subtypes to blame for the global HIV pandemic, according to Abbott Laboratories, which conducted the research along with the University of Missouri, Kansas City.

The findings were published Wednesday in the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes.

HIV has several different subtypes or strains, and like other viruses, it has the ability to change and mutate over time.

One year on... UK Police offer £20,000 reward for information on murder of Nigerian John Ogunjobi

n the one year anniversary of the murder of 16-year-old John Ogunjobi in Tulse Hill, UK detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

The UK Met Police said a reward of £20,000 was available for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for young Ogunjobis murder.

Police were called to Greenleaf Close, Tulse Hill at 10:53 pm on 5 November 2018.

Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and found the 16-year-old collapsed in the street with stab injuries.

Nigerian woman Oguntoyinbo arrested for identity theft

Self-acclaimed Nigerian actress, Deborah Oguntoyinbo is being investigated after she was arrested for stealing the identities of over 20 women to commit large-scale fraud in Canada.

According to a report by CBC News, Oguntoyinbo, 26 has been branded by the York Regional Police as one of the most prolific identity thieves ever encountered in recent times after stealing the identities of over 20 women in the Toronto area in the last two years.

Oguntoyinbo is also facing more than 50 fraud-related charges in Toronto as well as nearby York, Peel and Halton regions, according to court records.
