AMCON takes over Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company

The Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has assumed control of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company(IBEDC) Ltd over insolvency. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) Engineer John Ayodele confirmed the development in a memo to members of staff. Ayodele, in the January 20 memo reported by The Nation, said the company fell under receivership by a September 8, 2021, Federal High Court judgment. He said the judgement granted preservative orders in favour of AMCON. He explained the government corporation has appointed a lawyer to serve in the receivership action. He disclosed that the receiver arrived on Thursday, January 20 to take charge formally, hinting that he already held a meeting with the management staff. Otedola promises Eagles N102m to win AFCON

Femi Otedola has promised the Super Eagles the equivalent of $250,000 in naira (N102,895,000) if they win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. The Eagles will also receive N49,389,600 ($120,000) for the six goals they scored in the group stage of the ongoing continental showpiece, thanks to the Coalition Against COVID-19. CACOVID, a private sector-led platform established to assist the government in combating Coronavirus in the country, praised the team for their performance at the AFCON and promised to reward the squad with the naira equivalent of $20,000 for each goal scored in the group stage. The Eagles finished the group stage with six goals, which amounted to $120,000. According to Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, who represented CACOVID during a visit to the team’s camp in Cameroon, their impressive group stage performance convinced CACOVID to increase the amount for every goal scored to $50,000 in the round of 16.

Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi’s daughter, Princess Adedoja, has bagged a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos. Alaafin and other members of his family on Thursday attended Adedoja’s convocation ceremony as she bagged a distinction (4.63/5.0) in African and Diaspora Studies.

 The former Miss Oyo State emerged as the best graduating student from the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies, setting a record for the institute. Information from UNILAG’s official site mentioned that she was the first student to bag a distinction from the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies since its establishment in 2017. The excited princess shared her Convocation pictures on her Instagram page with the words, ‘Masters Degree bagged.  A former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, has revealed how he was allegedly rigged out of office during the 2003 governorship election when he sought re-election. Osoba explained that he had earlier received an intelligence report that election results were already prepared, saying he was warned to back out of the poll. The Oluwo of Oba, who said he insisted on going ahead with the contest, spoke in Abeokuta on Wednesday, at the book launch and the 60th birthday of his former Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Kayode Odunaro. 

 Osoba, who had contested under the Alliance for Democracy (AD), lost to his successor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The veteran journalist also revealed how he shared N140million on the eve of the election by bowing to pressure from his followers. The octogenarian stated that he did not challenge the outcome of the election in court despite the evidence at his disposal, because he had put the experience behind him. He said, “The 2003 election, I have put it behind me many years ago. 2003 is bygone. Nobody expected that the election would go the way it went, but I knew it would go the way it went because the figures had already been prepared.” Osoba said some security had given him “the figure of the result that they were going to announce.” He recalled spending money and how some people took his “money to sleep in hotels and pocketed same,” saying, “in politics you must learn to engage in wasteful spending and you must learn to buy all kinds of lies.” “I knew that the election was concluded, I was warned, the electoral officer from Cross River had told me after the Presidential election that, ‘Chief don’t contest the governorship, it is concluded’, but I said no. “We shared N140million on the eve of the election and I knew it was a wasted money, but I shared it because if I didn’t share it, they would say if I had not given them the money, they would have won.”

Actor Femi Adebayo surprised members of his staff recently when he gave one of them, Yemi Akinlosotu, a Toyota Corolla car. 

 In a video posted on his Instagram page, Adebayo could be seen presenting a brown envelope that contained the documents of the car to Akinlosotu, who works as a production manager with his J15 School of Performing Arts. Upon collecting the envelope, the lucky staff prostrated himself on the ground, thanking his boss. According to the actor, he gave the worker the gift as a reward for his hard work and commitment to him. He told The Punch, “Yemi, the employee I gave a car, graduated from J15 School about six years ago.

 He was the best student of his set and I employed him immediately. “Since then, he has been very hardworking, loyal and committed to the job. Under the 2018 agreement, the “Smack That” singer agreed to pay Stephens $3.25 million over the course of four years but he still hasn’t paid the last installment of $750,000, the updated suit claims. This is the third time that Stephens has had to drag the Senegalese songwriter — whose career he helped launch — to court following their business breakup. Stephens alleges that Akon sabotaged his relationship with Atlantic Records to get out of a clause of their settlement that states he would pay Stephens royalties for four future albums while under a “major” label, according to the filing from Tuesday. Now Akon claims he should be let off the hook for Stephens’ 20 percent cut of royalties since he’s now under BMG Records, Stephens alleges in the court papers. But Stephens argues that Akon can’t get out of those royalty payments since Akon allegedly intentionally breached his contract with Atlantic and since BMG “by any objective metric, is a ‘major’ record label.” “Akon has spent the better part of a decade frustrating Stephens’ attempts to obtain large amounts of money which Akon unambiguously promised in contracts to pay Stephens,” the court documents charge. “Although Akon argues he is not currently signed to a ‘major’ record label, he is wrong,” the suit claims. Stephens’ new lawyer, Jeff Movit, declined to comment.Akon’s lawyer didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

Gbajabiamila expressed that this on the floor of the green chamber on Tuesday while addressing his colleagues who resumed sitting for the year.

According to TheCable, the president declined assent to the bill, citing concerns over the recommendation of direct primaries for political parties.

The president had said compulsory direct primary polls for political parties “violates the spirit of democracy”.

During the interview, hosted by Osi and Simi, when the ring was noticed, she was asked about the ring, and Seyi said; “some guy gave it to me and asked if I would marry him”.

She went on to show off the ring, adding that it is real diamond.

Police raise the alarm over fake Internet fraudsters’ list

The Ogun State Police Command has raised the alarm over a viral fake compiled list of suspected internet fraudsters in circulation.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

Oyeyemi denied that the viral list circulating on social media emanated from the state Police Command.

The list had 31 persons purportedly drawn from Sagamu, Ago-Iwoye, Ijebu, and Abeokuta, and signed by one Assistant Commissioner of Police, Yahya Wakilu.

The PPRO said the command suspected that the fake list might have been used to extort the public, hence, the need to alert the public that the list did not emanate from the command.

He said the command has no Assistant Commissioner of police with the name Yahaya Wakilu that signed the fake list.

Governor Uzodimma has appointed popular socialite, Pascal Okechukwu fondly called Cubana Chief Priest as special adviser on social media to Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo state.

Although there has been no official announcement by Uzodimma’s press office, the club owner who is also known as Celebrity Barman made it known on Instagram page last night.

Nigerian businesses lost over N10 trillion to Twitter ban: LCCI

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) has estimated that Nigerian businesses lost N10.72 trillion ($26.1billion) within 222 days President Muhammdu Buhari shut down Twitter operations across Nigeria.

“In business terms, the cost of the seven-month shutdown of Twitter operations in Nigeria is estimated to be N10.72 trillion (26.1billion dollars) according to Netblock’s Cost of Shutdown Tool,” the director-general of LCCI, Chinyere Almona said in a statement on Friday.

Buhari regime had banned Twitter operations in Nigeria on June 5, 2021, and eventually lifted the prolonged suspension.

Obi Cubana set to sponsor hawker in viral video to university

Obi Cubana disclosed he is willing to sponsor the hawker who gave money to persons who were being transported to prison in a Nigerian Correctional Service van.

The young hawker, Ekuma Jeremiah, was caught on camera in the Ajah area of Lagos, earlier in the week, giving money to persons who were being transported to prison.

 Obi Cubana, who chairs the Cubana Group, in an interview with Daddy Freeze, made known his intention to sponsor the young boy’s tertiary education in any institution of his chosen.

Speaking during the short Instagram live interview, Obi Cubana said, “Love should be shown in our actions and not just in our words. I want to meet the young boy who despite being a hawker, gave N100 notes to people in a prison van and was not even aware that he was been filmed by a concerned passerby who was driving on the same road.

“Anyone who knows him should connect the boy with Daddy Freeze or me. I want him to go to school in good condition, and I would see him through the University, and if he wants to do his Masters degree abroad, I would also make sure that he is comfortable while going to school because his generosity touched me”.

Nollywood actor, Stan Nze, has revealed that celebrity breakups made him questioned his readiness for marriage.

The 32-year-old revealed this in an interview with media personality, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, in Rubbin’ Minds show, which aired on Sunday.

The Rattlesnake star had married a fellow Nollywood star, Blessing Obasi, aged 42, in September 2021, a period that witnessed breakups and marriage crises involving celebrities like Tonto Dikeh, 2Baba, etc.

According to the actor, he had planned to keep his marriage under wraps till his honeymoon.

He said, “I’ve always wanted my family to be private. My marriage was to be under wraps until my honeymoon but my wife insisted we post a photo so we control any coming narrative. We’d been together for 3 and a half years,” he said.

“I want my marriage to work. A week before my marriage, I left social media. There was a lot of news on Instagram. Partners were fighting each other. I was literally palpitating, asking myself if I was ready for marriage.

Prince's Estate Worth $156.4 Million in Final Valuation

 The Internal Revenue Service and the estate’s administrator, Comerica Bank and Trust, have agreed to a value of $156.4 million, a figure that the heirs to the estate have also accepted, according to Minnesota’s Star Tribune. The final valuation exceeds the $82.3 million valuation initially submitted by Comerica. 

The IRS determined earlier this year that executors of the pop icon’s estate undervalued it by 50 percent, estimating $163.2 million instead in court filings. Prince died in April 2016 of an accidental fentanyl overdose at his Paisley Park home in Minnesota at age 57. He did not have a will, leaving his sister Tyka Nelson and five other half-siblings claims over his estate. The estate will be divided between three of Prince’s oldest siblings and Primary Wave, an independent music publishing and talent management company that purchased the interests of the music icon’s younger siblings. Charles F. Spicer Jr., an attorney who represents the remaining heirs of the estate, confirmed the valuation to EW, adding that the family is thrilled that the extensive legal battle has reached a conclusion. “We’re looking out for the best interest of fans [and] ensure that Prince’s legacy remains for generations to come,” Spicer said. EW has reached out to the IRS and Comerica Bank and Trust for comment.
