Auchi Polytechnic bans students from driving cars on campus

Students of Auchi Polytechnic in Edo state have been prohibited from driving private cars within the school.

This is according to a circular dated 9 March, issued by the registrar, Dr. G. E. Ihiokhan.

He cited intelligence reports as reason for the ban.

“Following intelligence reports received by management, it has become expedient to put the following measures in place with effect from Wednesday, 10th March, 2021.”

“Students are not to bring in their vehicles in the campus.

“Security check will be carried out by both staff of the security unit and the police at the various entrance points of the Polytechnic’.

Ihiokhan advised all students to always carry their identity cards while on the campus.

Auchi Polytechnic was founded in 1963, first as technical college.

It became a full polytechnic in 1973 and boasts of over 10,000 students.

It is owned by the Federal Government.

 Teebillz has taken to his Instagram page to express his dismissal of a new bill in California, USA, which seeks to ban large departmental stores from dividing childcare items and toys by gender

 

The bill is seeking such stores to be gender-neutral and remove gender expectations where girls are expected to like dolls and makeup and boys are to like trains and superheroes. One of the co-sponsors of the bill, Evan Low, said an 8-year-old girl named Britten inspired him to write the proposal. Low said in a statement that Britten didn't understand why a store was telling her which toys were meant for boys and which were for girls. 

 

Low's bill is the most recent example of efforts in the US to eliminate gender labels from toy marketing as some researchers insist that gender-specific toys can stunt a child's emotional and psychological growth.

5 arrested in South Africa’s biggest banking scandal

South African Police, on Thursday, arrested five persons in connection with the collapse of VBS Mutual Bank, the country’s biggest banking scandal in recent years.

The Police said the suspects were arrested in an early-dawn raid at various places in Gauteng and Limpopo Provinces as they “continue to rid the country of corruption and corrupt activities’’.

Those arrested will be answering to a combined 188 counts of charges, which include theft, fraud, corruption, money laundering and racketeering, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said in a press release.

“Now that the attendance of a suspected organised criminal group is secured in court, attention needs to be given to those who contributed to the looting from various municipalities and undue beneficiaries,’’ said National Head of the Hawks, Godfrey Lebeya.

The VBS institution collapsed in 2018 after its reserves were plundered by greedy executives, leaving thousands of customers in financial troubles.

Hike in fuel price: Ben Bruce slams government

Ben Murray-Bruce, a former Bayelsa lawmaker has condemned the increase in pump price of fuel to N212 per litre.

Bruce on Friday wondered why the Nigerian system develops government policies which believes in suffering the masses.

He stressed that now is not the time for Nigerians to be spending more on fuel amid oppressive economic factors.

His tweet read: “I still will not understand a system that believes in suffering for the masses as a government policy.

“Someone, please educate me. Nigerians shouldn’t be paying more for fuel at this time, amid low minimum wages and other oppressive economic factors.”

His reaction is coming hours after the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) announced the new increment on its website, stating that it was due to the market determinants and importation costs.

PPPRA fixed the lower band of the new fuel price at N209.61 per litre and upper band at N212.61 per litre.

But the NNPC countered the announcement, insisting that there is no increase in fuel price in March.

Imo women not getting married due to high cost of marriage, bride price – Hon Kennedy Ibeh

Kennedy Ibeh, the member representing Obowo State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly, has sponsored a bill to regulate the outrageous cost of customary marriages in Imo State.

Ibeh, while presenting the bill for the second reading on Wednesday during plenary, said that the practice predominant in Igboland, had caused so many of the young ladies to remain single.

According to him, “a suitor coming to pay for a lady’s dowry may find it tasking to settle for the English wedding which again demands for more expenses.

“Part of the prayers of this bill is that once a suitor pays and completes the bride price of a lady, a clearance certificate should be issued to the groom by the father of the bride, who will present same to the traditional ruler of the community for the final issuance of Customary Marriage Certificate (CMC) at the cost not exceeding N1000.

“No customary marriage in the state including the final stage of Igbankwu ceremony shall exceed the sum of N180,000 with exclusion of the bride price which shall not exceed N80,000.

“It is quite unfortunate that this practice has caused so many of our marriageable ladies to remain single and men apprehensive of taking the bold step. This is wrong and we must discourage it at all costs.

“This bill, if eventually passed into law in the state, will correct the anomaly. As you can see, our young men and women are not getting married because of the monetary involvement. It is about time this obnoxious practice was stopped,” he concluded.

South Africa’s Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini dies aged 72

Goodwill Zwelithini, the controversial but revered king of the Zulus, South Africa's largest ethnic group, died on Friday aged 72 after weeks in the hospital for a diabetes-related illness, the royal palace announced.

The king wielded great influence among millions of Zulus through his largely ceremonial and spiritual role despite having no official power in modern South Africa.

During a decades-long reign, he revived festivals celebrating virgin women, was blamed for fuelling deadly xenophobic violence, slammed gays as "rotten" and enjoyed a lavish and hedonistic lifestyle in a country where millions live in poverty.

"It is with the utmost grief that I inform the nation of the passing of His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini... King of the Zulu nation," the palace said a statement signed by Mangosuthu Buthelezi, a powerful veteran politician who is also a Zulu prince.

The king was admitted to the hospital last month for diabetes.

"Tragically, while still in the hospital, His Majesty's health took a turn for the worse and he subsequently passed away in the early hours of this morning," the statement said.

Gunmen attack Nigerian boxing champion after receiving N10m cheque from Governor Makinde

The World Boxing Federation (WBF) Super featherweight Champion, Ridwan Scorpion Oyekola was lucky to have escaped death following an attack on his vehicle by gunmen moments after being presented a 10 million naira cheque at Oyo State government secretariat on Thursday evening.

Oyekola who shared his near-death experience yesterday after leaving hospital where he was admitted for treatment since the day of incidence said it was the grace of God that made him to escape death with two other occupants in his vehicle on Thursday 4th of March.

“As we left the government secretariat, the venue of cheque presentation, I wanted to drop a friend that accompanied me to the event at Mokola, a vehicle accosted us along NTA to Total garden area, and the two men were pointing guns at us to stop.

“I was shocked and swayed the car to escape them but fell into a ditch. The assailant drove off after noticing that we had fallen off from the road”, said the boxing champ.

Oyekola was with another boxer, Habeeb ‘Ige’ Oladeji the national bantamweight title holder and a friend Adesina Sheriff in the vehicle but none of them sustained serious injury except Ridwan who suffered shock, but has been released from the hospital.

The promoter and manager of the boxer, Sola Ayodele who owns Core Afrique Boxing Promotion (COABOX) has however, called on government to help in providing adequate security cover for the boxer, saying the assailants might still be on his trail which will not augur well for the safety and preparation for his title defense.

The COABOX boss however added that “the vehicle given to him by Hamex Group in appreciation of his achievement has gotten damaged after the robbery attack”

Petrol hits N212 per litre days after NNPC denied price hike

Eleven days after the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) promised there would be no price hike for Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol in March, the price has hit N212 litre.

On February 28, NNPC spokesman, Kennie Obateru, gave the assurance in a statement, in reaction to the long queues in some states.

“Contrary to speculations of an imminent increase in the price of PMS in the country, the NNPC has ruled out any increment in the ex-depot price of petrol in March”, he noted.

But on Thursday night, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) released the latest guiding retail price.

In a template published on its website, the agency explained that the increment was due to the market determinants and importation costs.

PPPRA fixed the lower band of the new fuel price at N209.61 per litre and upper band at N212.61 per litre.

The price was calculated on the approved average importer & exporter (I&E) Naira exchange rate per dollar of N403.80. The crude oil price at the international market is currently $70/barrel.

PPPRA said the average price per ton of the commodity is about $561.96, or N169.22 per litre, while the average freight rate cost $21.63 per ton, or N6.51 per litre. The ex-coastal price is N175.73 per litre.

For component charges, the average littering expenses cost N4.81 per litre; Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) charge N2.49 per litre; NIMASA charge N0.23 per litre.

Jetty Through Put charge is N1.61 per litre; Storage charge is N2.58 per litre, and average finance is N2.17 per litre, translating to an expected landing cost per litre of N189.61.

There is the wholesale margin of N4.03 per litre; administration charge of N1.23 per litre; transporters’ allowance (NTA) of N3.89 per litre; Bridging Fund cost of N7.51 per litre and Marine transport average (MTA) of N0.15 per litre.

The expected ex-depot price for wholesale products marketers now stands at N206.42 per litre. The addition of retailers’ margin of N6.19 per litre would bring the expected retail price (lower band) N209.61 per litre and expected retail price (upper band) N212.61 per litre.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, arraigned a corps member, Nazim Usman Gomna, and a 400 level student of Al-Hikmah University, Idris Shuaibu Suleiman, over alleged theft.

The defendants were arraigned on a three count charge of conspiracy and theft before Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin.

Nasim and Idris allegedly hacked the website of the Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, and diverted students’ school fees to the tune N9.1million.

Nazim graduated as a Computer Scientist from the university and is serving at the Jigawa State House of Assembly.

He allegedly connived with Idris to hack the university’s website using the latter’s account details to collect tuition fees illegally from students.

The crime perpetrated between March, 2020 and May, 2020, is contrary to Section 96 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 97 and 287 of the same Penal Code.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the three counts.

EFCC, Sesan Ola, asked the court for a date to commence trial and an order to remand the defendants in prison custody.

Defence counsels, A. T. Kamaldeen and Ismail Mustapha urged the court to admit their clients to bail pending trial and determination of the case.

Justice Oyinloye admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N3.5million each with one surety in like sum.

The surety must be resident within the jurisdiction of this court and must provide telephone contacts, residential address, recent passport photographs.

The judge also ordered the defendants to submit their travel documents to the court.

In another development, the EFCC secured the conviction of Mohammed Abdulwahab, who pleaded guilty to a 3-count charge of romance scam preferred against him.

Mohammed, who claimed to be Jessica Carmen, in December 2020, in Ilorin, used jessicacarmen440@gmail.com to induce one Mert Usul to make payment to a car pick-up company while he had no intention to purchase any car.

The offence was contrary to Section 95 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 324 of the same Penal Code.

Justice Oyinloye said from the evidence before the court, the defendant engaged in online romance scam.

The judge sentenced Mohammed to six months imprisonment on each of the counts with an option of fine of N50,000.

He ordered that the phone and laptop used to perpetrate the crime be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Ibori’s Loot Should Be Returned To Delta State – Femi Falana

Human rights lawyer and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana has urged the Federal Government to return the £4.2million looted funds recovered from former Delta State Governor James Ibori by the UK government to the Delta state.

He was engaged in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he asked the Federal Government to return the money to the State.

In his words:

“The Federal Government ought to be commended for pursuing this matter having regards to the fact that this case is a collabo issue between the EFCC under Malami/Ribadu and the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom.

“Having acknowledged the role of the Federal Government, the fund has to return to the source. As the Attorney General has said, the money is over £100 million. So what has been released now is the first tranche of £4.2 million.

“Since the money left the covers of the Delta State Government, it has to be returned once it is recovered.”

Nwankwo Kanu has revealed how he struggled during the start of his illustrious career.

He made this known when he spoke at a recent function on #EndSARS organised by the Ebonyi State Government.

The post he made reads;

When Papilo started, I did not depend on the government. I did not have boots to play football,” the former Arsenal forward said during the event held in Abakaliki.

I walk from my house, five kilometres to go to school. Come back from school, help mom, my parents, head out again – another seven kilometres – to play football without boots.

At the end of the day, I did not give up. I had belief and I trusted in God that I would make it.

Lena Waithe is making the jump from film and TV into music, announcing the creation of a new label with Def Jam, Hillman Grad Records (named for Waithe’s production company, which itself is named for the fictional HBCU in A Different World).

In a historic elevation for BET, media personality B. Scott has been named star and executive producer of a new program — becoming the network’s first trans non-binary talent in those roles. B. Scott will host the official after-show for Lena Waithe’s “Twenties,” BET’s hit series steeped in queer Black narratives. “Twenties the After Show” will see the host touch on key themes from each episode in conversation with a lineup of guests. The after-show will begin production in the coming months and air as a companion to the series’ second season. “At BET, we aim to be a home for all Black people, and we have a duty to ensure everyone is able to see themselves fully reflected in quality content,” said BET President Scott Mills. “The success of ‘Twenties’ is part of our evolution of inclusivity on all of our platforms and productions, and we are always seeking to do more. ‘I Will Do Better - Alexander Wang Shares New Statement on Sexual Misconduct Allegations

#jaiyeorie via: Complex Alexander Wang, who’s been facing a number of sexual misconduct and sexual assault allegations since December 2020, has shared a new statement in which he vowed to “do better” in the future. Late last year, Diet Prada and Shit Model Management made public a number of stories alleging multiple instances of misconduct. Model Owen Mooney, via TikTok, also alleged that Wang groped him at an NYC club in 2017. Following those allegations, a New York magazine piece was published featuring additional accusations from seven different people. In it, Wang—among other things—was accused of nonconsensual oral sex. On Monday, the designer said he supports those who have come forward, though he maintains there are disagreements “on some of the details” of the allegations. “A number of individuals have come forward recently to raise claims against me regarding my past personal behavior,” Wang said in a statement shared to Instagram, marking Wang’s first post in more than two months. “I support their right to come forward, and I’ve listened carefully to what they had to say. It was not easy for them to share their stories, and I regret acting in a way that caused them pain. While we disagree on some of the details of these personal interactions, I will set a better example and use my visibility and influence to encourage others to recognize harmful behaviors. Life is about learning and growth, and now that I know better, I will do better.” Back in January, Wang addressed what he then called “false, fabricated, and mostly anonymous accusations” against him.

Doja Cat Seduces Kofi Siriboe with Her #SilhouetteChallenge in Sexy 'Streets' Video

#jaiyeorie Doja Cat takes the viral #SilhouetteChallenge to new heights in the video for her latest single, “Streets.” We should also probably mention that Kofi Siriboe stars as her love interest — and he looks good. via NME: The video opens with a driver causing a traffic jam as he gets mesmerised by Doja as a mannequin in the window. Then, she pulls off her own rendition of the silhouette challenge as seen on TikTok, where she dances against a deep red light. She also dances in the on top of a car in front of zombie-like men and pulls the aforementioned driver into her literal web among other dark scenes. The viral challenge actually uses a mashup of ‘Streets’ and Paul Anka’s 1959 track ‘Put Your Head On My Shoulder’, contributing to the song’s recent popularity. This is just the latest instance of Doja paying homage to TikTok challenges in a video, after performing the viral choreography made to her song ‘Say So’ in its respective visuals. Cardi B Says She 'Did Not Approve' E! True Hollywood Story About Her Life

‘E! True Hollywood Story’ is set to kick off its new season with the life story of Cardi B, but Cardi wants you to know she did NOT approve of whatever it is they’re going to show us.

“I love E! And I always been grateful for all the love but I did not approve of the E Hollywood story,” she wrote, “My life is my story. How can someone tell my story without asking me.”

But she suggested there could be an authorized movie about her life on the cards.

“I would love to tell my story myself when I’m ready,” she wrote, “I been thru & been influenced by a lot of bad sh-t since a teenager That when I’m ready I will like to talk about.”

The E! episode is set to air March 15th.

It’ll certainly have plenty to cover. The 28-year-old rapper went from being a stripper to become the first female rapper to achieve a diamond single award from the Record Industry Association of America for her record “Bodak Yellow.”  The record sold over 10 million copies and her single featuring Megan Thee Stallion, “WAP,” is halfway to the same milestone with five million sales.

Beyoncé told her life story in 2013’s “Life is But a Dream,” and Taylor Swift did the same in last year’s “Miss Americana,” while Katy Perry released “Part of Me” in 2012.

Annie Idibia laments on being too busy for her family

According to her, she has so many projects and jobs at hand that she does not even know how to handle them.

She says she had loved to be with her children, help them with their homework and also make sure they are being fed well, but then... work.

She got emotional and then poured out her heart on Instagram. She wrote;

“My dreams caught me up way earlier this morning than I usually would, they are so big and scary, mixed feelings of … Lord how would I manage my time, my kids, their homework. To check if they are being well-fed and healthy, my mental state, my hubby, how many hours sleep can I actually try to get…all these plenties of works to be done; timeline, different projects, so much to read and follow up, so many calls to make (which is one of my worst things, talking on the phone). #jaiyeorie Nigerian Real estate mogul Udo Maryanne Okonjo has showed off the house her first daughter, Chidi, is building as her first investment property in Bali, Indonesia.

Chidi who was born in Canada and grew up in Nigeria and South Africa is a travelling entreprenuer and worked for a tech company in New York as a business analyst before she started her personal business. 

The 25-year-old during a question and answer session on Instagram, said she didn't take any loan to finance her villa but paid it out of her own pocket.

Sharing a glimpse of the house which is still under construction, Mrs Okonjo wrote;

"I couldn’t be more proud! Daughter 1 is building her first investment property. Who says women can’t command wealth? And who says it can’t start as early as you decide to take charge of your life," she wrote. 

"Choosing to challenge more women to create the right income streams and get onto the property ladder.
