50 Cent Says Jeezy Participated in Verzuz Out of “Desperation” to Sell Records

During his appearance on “The Morning Hustle?,” 50 Cent was asked if he would do a Verzuz battle with Fat Joe. However, 50 claims he’s no longer interested in the platform because he doesn’t see its relevancy as people reemerge from their houses.

Since the start of Verzuz, fans have attempted to lure 50 Cent into a competition with names of potential contenders they feel have the discography to face him and simultaneously put on a good show. Unfortunately, the Power star — who previously named some suitable opponents — is no longer interested in the series.

During a recent episode of “The Morning Hustle,” 50 explained his belief that Verzuz — which was created when everyone was on lockdown — no longer serves a purpose as the world is on the verge of opening up. Amid his statement, he chalked up artists’ continued participation to a desperate need of money and album sales, specifically citing the Jeezy and Gucci Mane battle.

“I think when they did the Jeezy, Gucci Mane [Verzuz], I think that that was desperation on Jeezy’s part trying to sell a record.…,” he said. “No, the record didn’t sell, but I think that’s what that was leading up to it because they looked at how much a catalog would sell, and how much exposure you’ll have ‘cause he was releasing a record at that point. Other than that, I don’t know why you would do that.”

50’s assumption that the Snowman used the Verzuz platform to sell records is very much like a comment he made following the release of Jeezy’s “Therapy for My Soul” song, which made mention of his playful behavior on Instagram.

“Anything to try and sell a record, I guess?” the “Many Men” emcee wrote alongside a photo of Isaac Hayes wearing a beret similar to the one Jeezy did on the cover art for the single. “I’m not available this week… I’m busy LOL. #yourshitistrash.”
