 Lupita Nyong’o has announced that her children’s book “Sulwe” will be made into an animated movie and she is super excited to be going on this journey with Netflix.

Sulwe, according to the New York Times, means star in Lupita’s language Luo. The book was published in 2019 with hopes that the story will inspire young ones to walk with joy in their own skin.

The book which will now be made into an animated movie tells the story of a 5-year-old girl growing up in Kenya who has the darkest skin colour in her family and is looking for a way to lighten her skin. Sulwe’s quest to fit in leads her to an adventure, which changes her perception of what beauty is.

12-year-old autistic girl has set a record by swimming 36 kilometres in the Arabian sea, Indian officials said Thursday.

“Jiya Rai, daughter of a naval sailor Madan Rai, created history by swimming from Bandra-Worli Sea Link to Gateway of India, a distance of 36 Km in 08 hrs and 40 minutes on 17 Feb 21 at 3:45 a.m. (local time),” a statement issued by India’s defense ministry said.

“She is a known case of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and she dedicated the swimming feat to raise awareness about Autism.”

Juventus goalkeeper Buffon fined for blasphemy

 Gianluigi Buffon was  fined 5,000 euros ($6,000) by the Italian Football Federation for blasphemy.

The 43-year-old Italian World Cup winner, who escaped a ban for the offence, was overheard using a “blasphemous expression” towards teammate Manolo Portanova during Juve’s 4-0 league win over Parma on December 19.

Buffon, who holds the record for Serie A matches played with 653 to date, was not caught on camera but there was an audio recording of the incident.

Omah Lay, has raised the alarm over stolen personal items at the airport.

The ‘Godly’ crooner on Wednesday disclosed that his laptop, audio interface and microphone were stolen from his box.

Omah Lay, however, did not disclose the name of the airport, likewise the airline.

He made this known on his Twitter page.

The 23-year-old singer wrote: “So they stole my laptop, microphone and audio interface from my box at the airport LMAO, you are looking for a hit record or what?”

Omah Lay who hails from Port-Harcourt has recorded hits in the past years.

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Chukwuma Soludo, has declared his intention to run for the governorship of Anambra in the November 6 election.

Soludo will contest on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Declaring his ambition on Thursday in Awka, he said he had been a party man since 2013 and would be better if APGA offered him the ticket.

He promised to achieve victory for the party, hoping to leverage his international connections to transform the state.

He said that having served the global community, he was now poised to serve and develop Anambra.

Speaking about the incumbent governor, Mr. Soludo stated, “I granted an interview where they asked if I still stand by what I said in 2017 that ‘If Anambra is not broken, why mend it?’ and I told them that Anambra is more sound now.”

NAFDAC approves AstraZeneca Covid vaccine for use in Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has approved the use of the Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in Nigeria.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Dr. Mojisola Adeyeye made the announcement during a live briefing on Thursday.

She said that the vaccine can be stored at 2 to 8-degree centigrade.

According to the NAFDAC Boss, there are three additional vaccines undergoing evaluation, but the evaluation on Astrazeneca shows that the vaccine is effective against the UK variant of the virus which has been reported in Nigeria.

Bank loses $500 million it mistakenly transferred

Citibank, an American multinational investment bank, has lost about $500 million it mistakenly transferred to a group of companies that loaned money to embattled cosmetics firm Revlon.

Being Revlon’s loan agent, the bank was meant to transfer a $7.8 million interest payment to the cosmetic company’s lenders. But in error, it transferred $893 million to the lenders last year.

Some of the lenders returned about $400 million, while 10 asset managers refused to return the transferred money.

The bank in August 2020 filed a lawsuit seeking the return of its funds from some of the lenders of Revlon who refused to return the money.

But on Tuesday, a U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman ruled in favour of the 10 investment advisory firms that collectively received the money.

Yahaya Bello says he handles insecurity in his state without necessarily seeking a solution by visiting the President in Abuja.

The governor who made the statement on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily stressed that he doesn’t pay lip service.

“The Nigeria Police that are in the country today are the same in Kogi State. The Army in the country is the same in Kogi State. All the law enforcement agencies we have in the country today are exactly what I have in Kogi State.

“So, when they provide such information, we act on it, we don’t pay lip service, we don’t pass buck, we don’t visit Abuja for solutions at all times. I don’t think there is any day I have ever visited Abuja for any solution. What I do is to sit down here and do my job,” the governor said.

Speaking further on security in the state, he added that stakeholders in the state collaborate with security agencies to analyse intelligence to forestall the breakdown of law and order.

Air Strikes In Orlu: “They Have Finally Brought The War Upon Us” – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reacted to the air operations on camps believed to have been occupied by the Eastern Security Network (ESN) by the Nigerian military in Imo State.

The operations sent residents of Orlu and Orsu local government areas of Imo State scampering for safety.

Reacting to the air strikes, IPOB in a statement made available to MCI  said the Federal Government of Nigeria have brought war upon the Biafran people.

The statement signed by Mazi Chika Edoziem, the Head of Directorate of State of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) reads; “The Nigerian government through its military has finally declared open confrontation with the Biafran people in their bid to harass, intimidate and cow us into submission to relinquish our ancestral lands to foreign Fulani terrorists.

“IPOB worldwide must gird their loins and be prepared for the long drawn out battle ahead.

“The leadership of the Indigenous people Of Biafra make bold to state unequivocally that there shall be no inch of Biåfran land (Biåfran territory) to be ceded to the Fulani Marauders from the Sahel.

NTA To Display NSE Ticker Tape Across Its Network

Investors and viewers of the Nigerian Television Authority’s (NTA) will now be able to see the daily price information of securities listed on The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on the various stations.

This was announced at the NSE digital Closing Gong ceremony hosted on Wednesday, 17 February 2021, to officially mark the broadcast of the NSE “Ticker Tape” across the NTA Network.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer, NSE, Mr Oscar N. Onyema, OON stated,

“At The Exchange, we remain committed to providing issuers with a platform that allows them to meet their strategic business objectives and one way of backing that commitment is making price information available across as many credible channels as possible.

Islamic leaders, traditionalists may clash over Oro curfew

There is trepidation in the Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State as Islamic leaders in the community have threatened a showdown with leaders of the Oro adherents over imposition of a curfew.

The traditionalists were alleged to have imposed a curfew on the people in the area as part of activities marking this year’s Oro-Orisa Oba Festival in Ipokia.

The Chief Imam of the area, Al-Imam Abdulwaliy, said the curfew contravened a court judgement and a peace pact banning such practice during the festival.

Abdulwaliy is the Chief Imam of Umar bin Khatab Mosque, Odan-Aje, behind General Hospital, Idi-Iroko.

The traditionalists in August 2019 stormed the mosque and dispersed Muslim faithful observing afternoon prayers for allegedly acting contrary to their warnings while they observed their ritual.

The traditionalists also allegedly shattered the doors and windows of the mosque.

Stakeholders in the area later met and entered into an agreement to forestall a recurrence of the incident.

Abdulwaliy, popularly known as Omoakin, said the curfew, if not reversed, could plunge the community and the state into a religious crisis.

UNN Suspends Lecturer For Impregnating 4 Students Within 4 Year

A lecturer with University of Nigeria Nsukka, Mr. Chigozie Odum has been suspended. 

This is coming after the lecturer allegedly impregnated four students of the Institution within his four years of being appointed as a lecturer.

His suspension was signed by the deputy registrar of the institution, Achiuwa. F. C (MRS) for the Registrar.

In the suspension letter, the suspended lecturer was asked to stay away from his duties until the conclusion of investigation and verdict is issued by management on the matter.

He has been equally placed on half salary within the period of investigation.
