The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star is suing Heard for $50 million for defamation over an op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post.  In the article, Amber called for better support for domestic violence victims like herself, but without naming Depp in the piece.
Depp is suing The Sun and its executive editor, Dan Wootton, for writing an article alleging that he was abusive towards the ‘Aquaman’ man star, a claim he has vehemently denied.
In the course of the hearing which kicked off on Tuesday, July 7 at London’s High Court,  Depp through his lawyers noted that he decided to end his marriage to Amber Heard after he found a poo in his bed in 2016.

According to Guardian, Floyd he told the officers “I can’t breathe” more than 20 times, only to have his plea dismissed by Derek Chauvin, the white officer pressing his knee into Floyd’s neck, who said: “It takes a heck of a lot of oxygen to talk.”
This comes weeks after Floyd’s death stirred an uprising in the United States, rallying the people to force the police to take Chauvin and his accomplices into custody.
Before he died, Floyd cried for his dead mother and his children. “Momma, I love you. Tell my kids I love them. I’m dead,” he said.

Leading anti-corruption group, Human and Environmental Development Agenda, (HEDA Resource Centre), has raised questions concerning the award of N30bn contract to a Nigerian company, Bulet International Limited, allegedly owned by Ismaila Isa Funtua, in 2019 for the expansion of its parking lot.

According to SaharaReporters, HEDA had obtained details indicating that the Central Bank of Nigeria awarded a contract to HEDA made a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2011 demanding the CBN provide details of the contract and evidence that the award of the contract passed through due diligence and process.

Ekiti Gov., Fayemi reopens Schools, Worship Centres

The Ekiti state government has announced that worship centres in the state to resume services from Friday July 17. 

 

Worshippers and religious leaders were urged to ensure "full compliance with the regulations regarding worship centres, which includes social distancing of 6-feet between worshippers, hand washing and face masks."

 

Governor Kayode Fayemi who made the announcement in a statewide broadcast on Tuesday June 30, also announced plans of reopening schools in the state from July 20.  

He said the resumption of schools would be in phases, and will start with pupils in graduating classes (SS3, JSS3 and Primary six) who are preparing for their examinations

LUTH Petitions Medical Panel after a patient who suffered a botched surgery by Dr Anu of Medcontour Died upon Being Transferred to LUTH

 

The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, has petitioned the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Investigation Panel to investigate Dr Anu Adepoju of Med Contour after a patient died in LUTH following a botched cosmetic surgery performed by Dr Anu.
The management of LUTH accused Dr Anu of professional misconduct following the death of one Miss Nneka Onwuzuligbo, who developed complications after cosmetic surgery at Dr Anu’s facility before dying at LUTH, after which Dr Anu tried to extricate herself by blaming LUTH for her death.
In a petition dated June 11, 2020, and signed by LUTH’s Director of Legal Services, O. O. Olajide, the hospital said Dr Anu Adepoju had continued to perform surgeries despite the fact that her facility was sealed off by the Lagos State Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency.
LUTH said Nneka was brought to its hospital with severe respiratory distress and septicaemia with infected surgical wounds.
In an affidavit attached to the petition, LUTH alleged that Dr Anu Adepoju referred the late Nneka from her facility to LUTH on January 3, 2019, on the pretext that she was being referred from the General Hospital, Odan.

Chicago’s top criminal lawyer Pissetzky to defend Hushpuppi

Face mask can cause failed ATM transactions – Banks

Banks advised customers to remove their facial masks when conducting transactions via Automatic Cashier Machines to ensure their surfaces are properly recognised.
The findings revealed that some banks have installed facial detection features in their ATMs that could prevent an ATM from donating cash if it is unable to recognise the user's face.
While banks introduced the clothing of facial masks as a condition for entering bank halls, they also advised customers to remove it when they want to withdraw money from ATMs

Meghan Markle to produce adaptation of political novel, Election Year

Meghan Markle is reportedly set to produce a film based on a politically-motivated novel, in a project that could ruffle feathers in the White House.

The Duchess of Sussex is believed to have worked out a deal with the author of Election Year, Lloyd Scott.

They are said to have drawn up non-disclosure agreements, which will see Meghan overseeing the script's development in a producer role, The Sun reported.

Meghan is said to have 'related' to the 'main character' and reached out to the author about the book.

Sanwo-Olu swears in Famuyiwa as Chairman of Agbado-Oke Odo LCDA, pledges continued support to grassroots

Former Vice Chairman of Agbado-Oke Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr. David Oladapo Famuyiwa, on Tuesday, took the oath to formally assume the council’s leadership, three weeks after the demise of the Executive Chairman, Dr. Augustine Arogundade.

At a simple swearing-in ceremony held in the Banquet Hall at the State House in Alausa, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu charged the new Executive Chairman to ensure the continuation of programmes and services that will have positive impacts on the lives of the people across Agbado-Oke Odo community.

Famuyiwa stepped in consonance with Chapter 89, Sections 24 and 25 of the 2015 Local Government Administrations Law of Lagos State, which provides legal backing for a Vice Chairman to take over the leadership of a council upon incapacitation or demise of the substantive chairman.

Sanwo-Olu eulogised the late Arogundade, who passed away on June 2, 2020, noting that his three-year leadership in the council brought positive impacts and prosperity to the community. The Governor, however, urged the new chairman to sustain the late Arogundade’s legacy, charging him to provide people-centric and result-oriented leadership that must enhance the lives of the residents.

He said: “Local government is the third tier of government that is the closest to the people. As a result, your policies and programmes must be people-centric. I urge you to continue with the provision and facilitation of services that will directly and positively impact the lives of the ordinary people within the Agbado-Oke Odo community.

Buhari names Adesina, 39 others Ambassadors’ Nominees

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday requested the Senate to screen and confirm 41 non-career and one career ambassadors for appointment.

Buhari’s letter of request was read on the floor at plenary by the Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

Among the nominees ar: Debo Adesina (Oyo), Exco-Minister of State for Defence, Ademola Seriki (Lagos) and Mr. Dare Sunday Awoniyi (Kogi).

Also, Buhari asked the Upper Chamber to confirm Mr. Sulyman Sani as a Career Ambassador representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Sulyman’s nomination may not be unconnected with the protest by the Senator Philip Aduda (FCT) that the territory was neglected in the earlier list of Career Ambassadors sent to the Senate for confirmation.

Following the reading of Buhari’s letter, Senator Aduda, through a point of order, thanked the Senate President for helping to ensure that the FCT was not relegated in the appointment of the Career Ambassadors.

The “Fast and Furious” actress, Jordana Brewster has filed for divorce from her movie producer husband.

The film star filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court last week to divorce film producer, Andrew Form after more than 13 years of marriage.

Jordana and Andrew tied the knot way back in May 2007 in a super-private wedding ceremony on Nevis Island in the Caribbean. 

They dated for two months before getting married, after meeting on the set of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning." Jordana starred in that movie, which Andrew produced.

CAN Protests, Calls Out Alaafin for Selling 96 Plots Of Their Land

   

The Christian Association of Nigeria in Oyo town has accused the Alaafin of Oyo of selling 96 plots of land, at Ayetoro, which belongs to the association, to some investors.

The Christian body also claimed that the Alaafin had boycotted several proposed meetings with the Oyo town chapter of CAN to resolve the issue.

Reverend Femi Afolabi, who spoke on behalf of the Oyo Zone CAN, disclosed that the monarch’s attitude towards the issue made the Christian association take to the street in Oyo town in protest against his role in the land tussle.

Afolabi also narrated how some of the members were attacked by hoodlums who he suspected were landgrabbers when they went to inspect the property.
