Nigeria’s Tofade Makes History, Becomes First Black Female President Of US College

    Toyin Tofade, a Nigerian, has been named the first black female president of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) in the United States.
Tofade was chosen as the college's 10th president after a nationwide search, according to a statement from the campus.

Tofade has been Dean and Professor at Howard University College of Pharmacy in Washington, D.C. since 2016.


"In the 141-year history of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Dr. Tofade is the first Black woman to serve as president. "She will begin her term on July 1, 2022," according to the college.

"It is an honor to be chosen by the Board of Trustees of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for this prestigious position," she stated. 


"I would like to express my gratitude to Howard University's provost and president for their years of leadership, support, and mentorship, as well as the entire Howard University College of Pharmacy (faculty, staff, students, board of visitors, alumni, and friends) for their commitment to excellence and leadership, my distinguished colleagues for making Howard a great place to work, and my family for their unwavering support." "I thank God for this new opportunity, and I am excited to serve the ACPHS community as president," she said.
