Fuel souvenir: Court sentences Lagos socialite to 2-year jail term

#jaiyeorie  Ms. Chidinma Ogbulu, a Lagos socialite, was sentenced to two years in prison for distributing fuel as a memento during a party. In a judgement issued by Chief Magistrate Kehinde Ogundare, she was sentenced by the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court in Oshodi. Following her guilty plea on Thursday and some prosecution evidence, the socialite was convicted and punished. Following Ogbulu's arrest and arraignment last Monday, he was found guilty. 

 

 

During an event she hosted at Havilah Events Centre, Victoria Island, on March 4, she shared kegs of petrol as a keepsake in a viral video. She was then charged with 'four offenses bordering on conduct likely to provoke a breach of peace, endangering human life through distributing,' among other things.

She was then charged with "four counts bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of peace," "endangering human life by distributing combustible matter in a public gathering," "intent to harm another," and "illegally carrying on the business of storage and containerizing petroleum product without a permit."


On Thursday, Ogundare sentenced Ogbulu to three months in prison or a N15, 000 fine on count one of the three charges, and one year in prison or a N500,000 fine on count two of the three offenses.




On the third count, the chief magistrate sentenced the socialite to one year in prison or a N500,000 fine.
