In a post on her Instagram page, Halle Berry shared her excitement about the film writing:
After three years in the making, I am THRILLED to finally announce “Bruised” is coming to @netflix globally Wednesday, Nov. 24.
This project is so special to me, not only because it’s my directorial debut, but because the fight game — especially MMA — is a sport that I absolutely love and a genre that has always been winning. Everyone loves to root for the underdog, as we’ve all been there.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Halle revealed Blake Lively turned down the starring role in the film.
They gave me the script, and I loved the story, but it was written for a twenty-something Irish Catholic white woman.
I couldn’t get it out of my mind, so I thought, is it possible that this could be reimagined for someone like me? Because I think I have a take on it that could actually work — making it about a middle-aged black woman, someone fighting for a last chance rather than another chance.
She flipped Bruised and Netflix reportedly paid Halle $20 million for worldwide distribution rights of the film.
Entertainment Weekly also unveiled the first look photos from the film.
