#jaiyeorie L-R: US President-elect, Joe Biden and China President, Xi Jinping.
Chinese government congratulated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on wining the United States election respectively as president-elect and vice-president elect.
Foreign ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin on Friday at a regular daily briefing expressed;
We have been paying attention to the domestic and international community’s reaction to this US presidential election.
We respect the American people’s choice and extend congratulations to Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris.
Biden won the presidential election after securing more majority votes and electoral votes than President Donald Trump.

While world leaders congratulated him, China remained silent, reportedly fearing retaliation from Trump, has refused to concede defeat and is contesting the outcome of the election in court.
Biden, who will be the 46th US President, is also the most-voted for presidential candidate in US history, securing around 75 million ballots. While Harris will be US first female, Black, Asian-American Vice President.

The 77-year-old crossed the finish line in the race to the White House after winning the state of Pennsylvania, giving him the necessary 270 electoral college votes.
On Monday, Wenbin evaded a question on when China would congratulate Biden, saying instead that China would act in “accordance with international practice”.
She said;
We understand that the outcome of the general election will be determined in accordance with the laws and procedures of the United States.
Russian President Vladimir Putin was yet to congratulate Biden. According to Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry PeskovRussia would only recognise a new US president on confirmation of ‘official results’.

Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau was among the first to show their support for the Democratic nominee after he became president-elect on Saturday.
Dozens of other world leaders, including UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, President Muhammadu Buhari have since followed suit.

President Trump is still refusing to concede the presidential election to Biden, insisting the election is not over.

He also claimed without proof that his 2.7million votes for him had been ‘deleted‘ while some were turned over for Biden.
