Police Officers Injured after Shi’ites Protest at National Assembly turned Brutal

Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria – Shi’ites – held a protest against the continued detention of their leader El Zakzaky at the National Assembly.Premium Times reports that the protesters “shot some officers on duty”. The news portal quoted an eyewitness as saying: “They shot three policemen. One of them even appears dead already.”


According to TVC News, the protesters forced their way into the national assembly, cars and attacking security operatives
TVC quoted police operatives as saying that the protesters seized the rifle of a police officer, beat him up, and attempted to kill him.

The TVC report said soldiers of the guards brigade intervened, firing shots at the advancing protesters.El Zakzaky was arrested in 2015 after his supporters blocked Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai‘s convoy. This led to El Zakzaky’s arrest also led to the killing of at least 347 of his supporters.
