Some Nigerians on Instagram have mocked Big Brother Naija season 4 winner, Mercy Eke over her poor English grammar.

This comes after a video of reality star explaining how she got swindled of some money, surfaced on social media.

In the video, Mercy explained how she was tricked into giving away her personal information to the imposter and money was taken out of her bank account.

The 28 year old however advised fans to visit their banks to rectify any issues they have instead of responding to any strange number claiming to be from the bank.

Many social media users have reacted to Mercy’s sad experience.

A man was found dead in his car along the CMD Magodo road in Lagos state on Friday, January 22.

A statement from the Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Authority LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency received an emergency call and when the staff arrived at the scene, they found a lone driver who had apparently "slumped at the wheel." The vital signs of the man was checked and he was confirmed dead.

Private Firm, SecureID To Manage Abuja-Kaduna Rail E-Ticket For 10 Years

A private firm, SecureID, has the concession to manage the Abuja-Kaduna e-ticketing platform for 10 years and recoup up to N900 million before handing over to the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NCR).

The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi disclosed this on Wednesday during the official launch of the e-ticketing platform held virtually.

The minister said the online ticketing which marks the beginning of automation of ticket sales in all major stations in Abuja- Kaduna train service is in line with global world best practices and will enhance efficiency, save time, promote accountability, reduce ticket racketeering, reduce leakage and promote economic growth.

Banky W came for the Nigerian government for making citizens queue up to get the National Identification Number (NIN) in the middle of a pandemic. 

Banky W states this as "completely reckless, inconsiderate and dangerous", stated that it is irresponsible to insist on this "mad scramble for NIN numbers" in the middle of the second wave of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Peter Nwoke,20 has been arrested for allegedly leaking a ‘sex video’ of lawyer and Federal Commissioner of Imo State Office of Public Complaints Commission, Chief Willie Amadi naked in a room with two girls.

The 12-second 'sex tape' suggested that the appointee of President Buhari had a 3some, but it was noted that his picture was superimposed on a background with a sex scene. 

Imo police spokesperson, Orlando Ikeokwu confirmed the arrest of Nwoke and  revealed that he admitted leaking the video. On why he did it, the suspect said;

According to the reality show star, people are becoming more mentally aware and it seems like people have gotten mean.

I took this picture 2 years ago at a Mental Health Seminar in South Africa. While I’m grateful that 2 years later, people are becoming more mentally aware, it also seems like people have gotten meaner! What happened to us?? Someone commits suicide, another person will tweet “Be Kind” but you will scroll down their page and see them trolling people all day long. Make it make sense! Someone will ask their fellow human to report a blog posting lies and humans will say they rather continue reading the gossip. Someone will shave their hair for whatever reason and someone else will say they look like a cancer patient. Someone will get skinny, they must have AIDS. Someone will have big stomach, they must be pregnant. Where did this bad behavior come from?

I remember I wrote a post last year about my feelings and problems people close to me were dealing with and humans read it as I was depressed. Some even offered me money thinking I was broke. What is this type of thinking? Who is doing you people?

I don’t have the answers but I hope everyone can find happiness. The world around us doesn’t seem to be getting better so you must create happiness for yourself.

I would love to be a sounding board for anyone that wants to get things off their chest. My DM is open but you have to be very direct and specific. Saying “Hi” will not get you a response. I also won’t be able to answer everyone as my personal mental health is key, but I’ll continue to try and Be Kind to all.

A legal practitioner has weighed in on Doyin Okupe's reaction to his son coming out as gay.

Doyin Okupe had reacted to his son's sexual orientation by stating clearly that he is "vehemently opposed to homosexuality" and believes what his son is going through is "a major spiritual challenge".

  Jake Okwchukwu Effoduh, a lawyer, told the former presidential aide that he should accept his son and stop trying to change him.

He wrote: "Dear Doyin Okupe, no amount of prayer can change ur son's sexual orientation. The same way no amount of prayer can change his race. Instead, pray for him to grow in confidence, wellness and self-acceptance. The world will hate and reject him, don’t join them. Accept your own son."

A troll left a comment underneath one of Michelle’s videos saying she was “bored” and needed kids to keep busy — and Michelle made it clear she wasn’t bored and had plenty of time to clap back.

Michelle shared a video saying she’s signing “thousands” of inserts to be bound in special editions of her forthcoming book Checking In, out May 25.

“Michelle I love you but you need some children…u r 2 bored…,” wrote the commenter under the video.

Michelle wasted no time putting him in his place.

“You’re an idiot!!!!” she responded a series of laughing emojis.

The user replied,  “woooooooow that was uncalled for thank you.”

“No, what’s uncalled for is you telling a woman that she needs to have children. What if that woman CAN’T have children?? Supreme Court dismisses Abacha family’s appeal seeking access to frozen foreign accounts

A lawsuit filed by the Sani Abacha family seeking access to the looted funds which they and the late Nigerian head of state kept in foreign bank accounts has been dismissed by the Supreme court. 

A 5-man panel led by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta dismissed the case for lacking in merit. In the lead judgment prepared by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Supreme court panel held that Mr Ali Abacha’s case was not different from that of his brother, Abba Mohammed Sani which was also dismissed by the apex court on February 7, 2020.

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode stated that the herdsmen ravaging the South East, South West, South South and the Middle Belt are same people butchering people in the North West and North East. 

He noted that they are called herdsmen in the south and middle belt and bandits in the north, stated that they do not represent the Fulani but only themselves and those who sent them. 

FFK added that he subscribes to the view that killer herdsmen should be given quit notices and apprehended, but don't subscribe to the view that all Fulanis should be given quit notice anywhere in the country.

Adele Reaches Divorce Settlement with Ex Simon Konecki 2 Years After Split

It’s been a long journey, but Adele and ex-husband Simon Konecki have finally settled their divorce.

The former couple filed a judgement packet with the court in Los Angeles on Friday, though the document has not been entered or signed by a judge to officially dissolve their marriage.

A representative for Adele did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Adele, who shares 8-year-old son Angelo with Konecki, first announced their split in April 2019 following seven years together.

“Adele and her partner have separated,” her representatives said in a statement to the Associated Press at the time. “They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”

Adele, 32, filed for divorce five months after news of the breakup, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and requesting joint custody of their son.

At the time, the divorce filing, obtained by PEOPLE, said that spousal support and separation of their assets and properties will be determined in mediation.

Last May, a source told PEOPLE that Adele and Konecki have been living across the street from each other in L.A. as they co-parent their child amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“They are doing what’s best for Angelo,” the source said. “Her son is her world.”

In October, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that Adele has been dating British rapper Skepta.

“They run in the same circles in London, and she’s having fun,” the source said.

Twitter suspends Ayetollah Khamenei's account after he calls for Trump's assassination over killing of General Soleimani

 

A Twitter account belonging to Iranian Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei has been suspended by Twitter after the account posted a photo that appears to show  Trump playing golf below a large drone and calling for the assassination of the former US President.

The tweet called or an attack on Trump in revenge for last year's killing of its top military commander, Gen Qasem Soleimani.

The tweet from the Iranian account refers to Gen Soleimani, who was assassinated by a US drone in Baghdad a year ago.

Under Soleimani's leadership, Iran had bolstered pro-Iranian militant groups, expanded its military presence in Iraq and Syria and orchestrated Syria's offensive against rebel groups in its long-running civil war.

"Vengeance is inevitable," it reads.

…like you said, music is life, basically. We’re just going to keep creating music and showing our important… even just pull in as Africans, we’re just going to keep doing that every time. On the success of “Made In Lagos”:

It feels so great, man. Especially when you spend time making the music and spend a lot of time on the art. It’s just amazing to see that people appreciate the music around the world. Not just Africans because that’s why I make music. I’m just trying to connect to the world and just spread good vibes to the world. So yeah. It’s just very, very… It’s a blessing to me to be here, play my own role and do my own thing. But I’m very thankful. I’m very thankful that people love the album. Every day I wake up it’s like… I see something nice that makes me go, “Oh yeah, we did it. We did a great job, man.”

On the importance of growing as an artist:

It was very, very important for me to pass my message without losing my name or myself, like as artists, I believe we all want to grow. So we all want to grow. So whenever I make an album or I make a project, I just try to make sure that the growth way very evident. Not just in the music and the art and everything and like the artwork, the videos, the rollout. It was very, very important for me to like… We had to sit and structure all of that. Like I had to make sure that the music was very, very, very, very, very solid. So I definitely, definitely… It was very intentional. I would say it was a very intentional record.

On collaborating with Projexx, Damian Marley, and Ella Mai:

You know, first of all, like when two artists go in the room to make music, especially two great artists, you definitely going to create magic. But when you have like two real people or like three real people in the room that you’re bound to make, even like exceptional music. So me getting in the room with Projexx, Damian [Marley], Ella Mai, everyone that I made music with, it was very, very important for me to like, just making music regardless of where the sound was coming from or whatever anyone was bringing to the table. I just wanted to make sure I’m making music. I’m not making music for the name or just cause the name looks nice together or.

On what he listens to:

I listen to everything, man. You’d be shocked. I listen to everything, everything that comes out I’ll listen. I listen, man, everything, everything I listen to because… Like I said, music is life and I stay, sleep, eat music, that’s in anything I do. So. Yeah. I listen to everything, man. I will get down so like… You think about it, anything you can imagine I listen to. And I listen to a lot of old music too, cause I’m old. So like I love, I love, I love all records.

On being an old soul:

Like you said, like when I was young I used to hear that word being thrown around. First of all, I thought it was cause I was always cool with the older people. Cause I had like all older friends, I was always hanging out with people a lot older than I was. So I thought, “Oh, maybe that was the reason why,” but as you tend to grow older and you get to know yourself better as a human being and you grow spiritually as well, you tend to understand that term that is deeper than that. Like you’re here for a purpose. You’re here for a reason. I’m here for to cater for family, in case for anyone that crosses their path around me, she’d be good. And it also is deeper. Like when you know the essence of why you care, can you understand it beyond any human understanding? Like trust me, I think that’s what that is. You know? And you just know yourself.

On his goal as a parent:

First of all, it’s a crazy generation we’re living in and as time goes by, like they exposed to everything. So it is very, very important to let my kids understand life and understand themselves. I wouldn’t want them to emulate me, be even better human beings.

That is my own important role to be able to raise great, amazing human beings, man. But I mean from the soul, cause whenever I meet a great person, I’m happy. Like I feel I go out and like there’s a whole lot of us around. You feel me? So I would just want to always in the midst of everything, in midst of the madness, in midst of how fast the world is growing, like I would just always want my kids to stay true to that. Just by me just staying true to who I am, so yeah.

On lessons learned during quarantine:

… As human beings, I feel like we have our survival instincts, right. So when everything happens we all just automatically… You just switch into survival mode, like, “Okay, yeah, this is what we’re doing. This is what the world has come to. So we need to keep moving forwards.” That I put that in mind. And secondly, it’s like I love performing, I love the energy from people.

So where you don’t get that, I feel like the crazy times were hard but as I see it made everyone understand what is important in life. And us artists you… This is the first time where everyone’s kind of slowed down and paused in like a minute. Like, “Oh no one is really touring and jumping around.” So everyone’s home. Like there’s a more human, like you’re a little bit more human.

I feel like that reflects in the music. And so now it’s like, “Oh whoa, you see things a little bit clearer.” Because sometimes you make music, you get in the club, you’re touring, but that’s like… You can be stuck in a place that is not real when you’re on the road, and you’re making music like that. But when you’re home and you’re really going through everything like a normal human being it’s like… You just realize music comes from a real place. Especially when the music comes from a real place for you as an artist and for me it does.

So right now it’s like, I’m making some of the most purest, realist music I’ve ever made in life.

On finding peace:

Man, I just found myself. I found my peace, man. I found myself. I found my peace in ways I can’t even put words to explain. I can’t explain it. As we are growing as older people… So when you’re young, it’s like you’re searching like, “Okay, who am I? What?” You’re inspired by a lot of people. So it’s like you’re trying to find yourself. But right now I feel like I’m in the best, I’m in my zone. I know exactly why I’m here. I just found my peace, man. I found my peace in ways I can’t explain.

On music moving forward:

Yeah, I don’t even, right now I don’t even have to think too deep. Cause the music comes from here. So it’s how I feel. So it just comes easy for me. I’m making some amazing music, man.

Ondo Pastor jailed for 2 years for falsely alleging that a church founder buried 7 placentas in his church altar

 Pastor John Abiodun has been handed a two year jail sentence over a false allegation against the founder of an Akure-based church.

Abiodun was sued by the founder of the Promiseland Prophetic Ministry, Akure, Pastor Gbenga Akinbiyi in 2019 after he alleged that he (Akinbiyi) buried seven placentas in his church’s altar.

Abiodun who Akinbiyi accused of swearing an affidavit before the Commissioner for Oaths on the matter, was arraigned alongside a lecturer of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof Lanre Olu-Adeyemi on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, publications of false information, perjury, impersonation, threatening violence amongst others.

US Senate confirms Lloyd Austin as 1st black chief of Pentagon

US retired general, Lloyd Austin has been confirmed as the country's secretary of defence , becoming the 2nd cabinet nominee of new President Joe Biden to get approval and the first African American to lead the Pentagon.

The Senate on Friday approved President Biden's nomination for Pentagon chief in a near-unanimous 93 to 2 vote in Austin's favour.

The retired four-star general received overwhelming support from both Biden's Democrats and opposition Republicans, even though his confirmation was complicated by his status as a recently retired general and required a waiver of a legal prohibition on a military officer serving as secretary of defense within seven years of retirement.

The House and the Senate approved the waiver on Thursday, clearing the way for the Senate confirmation vote.

Reacting to Reno Omokri’s video in which he said he would give her 100 million NIP if he proves he called her, Deborah said he should stop insulting her with the amount. She added that she can count on a little of what she has and still asked if he could do it. However, in response to this, the Apostle Suleman, who is the General Supervisor of Omega International Fire Ministries International, insinuated that he was blackmailing Reno Omokri. He confirmed that the former presidential spokesman would never behave like that and further stated that adding lies to the incident was evil. Returning the fire to him, Deborah told the apostle Suleman to watch what he told her because she could return it 100 percent.

Zinedine Zidane tests positive for COVID-19

Zinedine Zidane has tested positive for the coronavirus, the La Liga club said in a statement on Friday January 22.

The Real Madrid, coach had been isolating earlier this month after a close contact tested positive for Covid-19 and did not attend a training session as a result.

Madrid have said in a statement on their official website: “Real Madrid CF announces that our coach Zinedine Zidane has tested positive for Covid-19.”

Zidane, who is under pressure following Real's shock cup defeat to 3rd division side Alcoyano earlier this week, will not be available for their La Liga match away at Alaves on Saturday with his assistant David Bettoni set to take care of first-team affairs for now.

Hadiza Bala Usman has been reappointed as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) by President Buhari. 

Hadiza's reappointment for a 2nd tenure of 5 years was confirmed in a statement released by presidential aide, Femi Adesina. 

President Buhari also approved the reconstitution of the Non-Executive Board of the NPA, with Mr Emmanuel Olajide Adesoye (from South-west zone) as Chairman.

4 Airlines Set To Launch Operation

Amidst the headwinds in global aviation markets triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, experts foresee a quicker recovery in Nigeria’s sector as more airlines acquire new planes even as many others prepare to hit the sky.

Experts expect 4 new airlines to launch operation this year as they put finishing touches to the process of obtaining an Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC). At least 24 carriers are in different stages of the AOC application process.

One of Nigeria’s foremost airlines, Azman Air, started the year on a promising note with the acquisition of its second Airbus A340-600 aircraft. The second delivery came barely a year after the first wide-bodied aircraft was purchased.

Though aviation globally was hit by the pandemic last year, Azman’s plan to launch an international operation was disrupted last year by the pandemic just as it couldn’t deploy the aircraft for Hajj as planned.

But the airline said with the acquisition of the second Airbus and three additional Boeing 737-800 planes, it would dominate the Aviation Market in 2021.
