Customs Records N1.341tn Revenue

                                       

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) thursday announced that it generated the sum of N1,341,690,568,327.18 for the year 2019 as against N1,202,448,733,244.89 generated in 2018, showing an increase of N139,241,835,082.29.
The NCS in a statement by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Joseph Attah stated that the amount generated is over the target of N937,286,121,586 set for the year 2019.
The Comptroller General of the NCS, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd) in the statement said the service achieved the revenue as a result of resolute pursuit of what is right, “rather than being populist by compromising national interest on the altar of individual or group interests.
According to him, “the service revenue generation profile has continued to be on the rise annually as the ongoing reforms in the Service insists on: Strategic deployment of officers strictly using the standard operating procedure and strick enforcement of extant guidelines by the tariff and trade department.

Court sentences Otunba Runsewe who called Bobrisky a national embarrassment to prison

An FCT High Court, Maitama sentenced to prison Otunba Olusegun Runsewe , Director- General, National Council for Arts and Crafts (NCAC) for contempt of court order.

Justice Jude Okeke in a ruling on the motion seeking for the order of the court to sentence Runsewe to prison for disobeying court order of Dec. 15, 2017, Okeke held that Runsewe, failed to establish what he asserted.

“The court holds that the party cited (Runsewe) failed to establish what he asserted that the thatched roof of the applicant was removed and replaced in error by his agent, the contractor.

JAMB candidates massively storm NIMC office to register for their compulsory National Identification Number

Prospective candidates for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) have stormed the Lagos office of National Identity Management Commission, (NIMC) to register for their National Identification Number (NIN).

The students queued early as 7am today both in and outside the Lagos State Enrolment Centres of NIMC office at 1b Obafemi Awolowo Way, Alausa Ikeja.

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) demanded on all prospective candidates for its 2020 UTME to acquire the NIN to ensure the biometric and other necessary details of a candidate were captured, to check examination malpractice.

2020 Olympic athletes will be banned from “political, religious, or ethnic” protests

   

 

          

New guidelines published by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) bans competing athletes from making any form of political protest at the 2020 games in Tokyo.           
The announcement prohibits "any form of political, religious, or ethnic demonstrations" from taking place "at all of the Olympic venues" as well as during medal ceremonies and in the Olympic Village. The IOC did not outline potential punishments for any athlete who breaks the rule, only mentioning that each incident would be addressed "on a case-by-case basis.”

Celeste has been named as the winner of the BBC Sounds Of poll for 2020. The annual poll is made up of critics and music industry figures tips for the year and has previously been won by Adele, Haim, and Sam Smith.        
  
            She was born in Los Angeles but raised in Brighton, England, Celeste got her first break in music in 2016 when she was signed to Lily Allen's label Bank Holiday Records. She released one EP with the label before signing to Polydor in 2018. Her BBC Sound success follows her being named 2020 BRITs Rising Star award, a similar accolade handed out by the BRIT Awards.

Ukrainian Flight 752 Video Shows Plane Shot Down by Iranian Missile

In a report that was confirmed by The New York Times, a video has surfaced that shows a Ukranian plane being shot down by an Iranian missile.




The 752 plane was shot down near the Tehran, Iran airport, where it stopped transmitting. The plane didn’t explode in the air when the missile hit it, but instead kept flying and turned back to the airport. caught fire and eventually exploded and crashed.

I Take Responsibility For Oyo Market Fire – Seyi Makinde

               

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, says he takes responsibility for the fire incident that razed the Akesan market in Oyo State last week Sunday.
He said this on Wednesday after visiting the site of the incident alongside his cabinet members.
Makinde also assured that the State Government would rebuild the market and provide support to all victims of the fire incident.
He added that rather than engage in buck-passing over the failure of the past administration to provide necessary fire-fighting tools, he would take responsibility for the failure of the system.
“I must, at this point, express my deep sadness over the loss of lives and property because of the various fire outbreaks in Oyo State. This is deeply regretted. Of course, things happen that signal the failure in our system.
“I swore an oath to protect the lives and property of everyone living within the borders of this State, so I take full responsibility for this failure and promise that I will make things right,” the governor said.
