Nigerians Are Getting Poorer, IMF Says

Despite Nigeria's recovery after the economic recession after the second quarter of 2017, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates that Nigerians are becoming poorer.  The fund said economic reforms are urgently needed to put the nation on a sustainable economic path, the Reuters news agency reports, citing an IMF report.  The report is due to be released today.  According to Reuters, the IMF said it expects the Nigerian government "to cope" in the medium term, adding that any progress could also be jeopardized if the 2019 elections consume energy and political resources.  The IMF said in the report that growth prospects have improved but remain difficult, adding that comprehensive and consistent economic policies remain urgent and should not be delayed by approaching elections and recovering oil prices. "The rise in oil prices would support a recovery in 2018, but a" confused "outlook is envisaged in the medium term under current policies, with fiscal dominance and structural constraints leading to continued declines in real GDP per capita", notes the IMF. to Reuters.

Man Docked For Allegedly Stealing $56,000 From Oyedepo’s Bookstore

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Regional Office, tabled a Chutaie Chuta on Wednesday before Judge Mojisola Dada of the State High Court, Lagos, on a charge of theft of $ 56,000 .  The offense is contrary to Article 285 (7) of the Law on the Penal Code of Lagos State No. 11 of 2011.  The defendant, a former employee of the publishing unit of Dominion Book Stores, an online bookstore owned by The Living Faith Church Worldwide, allegedly hacked the company's mail and misappropriated payments for certain products purchased by line on his personal account.  The accused, who would have been an active member of Living Faith Church Worldwide for six years in 2013, proposed to the church to build an online digital media store that would feature all of David Oyedepo's books and audio messages. online allow members of the diaspora church to purchase and receive digital copies.  The investigation revealed that the project was approved free of charge by the Church on a contractual basis.  It was also revealed that the defendant submitted all relevant documents to the ICT department of the church.  However, the defendant would later have gone to hack the computer server of the church to perpetrate the fraudulent act.  When the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.  In light of his plea, the prosecutor's lawyer, Gabriel Akaogu, asked the court for a trial date and requested the court to place the accused in custody.  However, the defense attorney, R.E. Osige, urged the court to admit his client to bail.  Judge Dada adjourned the case to March 7, 2018 for hearing the application for bail and the commencement of the trial.
