“I love the fact that Malta Guinness focuses on youths!” - Chiagozem Nwakanma

Chiagoziem Nwakanma is a young actor who was part of the Malta Guinness Life 101 TV series. She talks about how she decided to be an actor, and her plans for 2018.

 

Q. `What were you doing before the Life 101 series?

A. I was acting. I had just finished a web series I starred in called "This is it"

 

Q. Have you always wanted to be an actor?

A. Not really. Growing up I would always say I wanted to be a pharmacist because we had a lot of doctors in my extended family so I didn't want to be the odd one out. But I HATE blood and I would cry whenever I see someone getting injection so pharmacy was the safest medical profession. However at 16, I stumbled into the world of acting through a theater group called "Free Street Theater" in Chicago. Even then I thought Acting would be something I'd do on the side until I went to University. I would pick going for rehearsals over classes and my grades drastically dropped. I knew I had to make a decision so I changed my major to "Performing Arts". That was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life.

 

Q. How much has your life changed since the Life 101 TV series?

A. I've definitely been working a lot more. "June" was a very different character for me. It was different from my usual sweetheart role so it gave me a chance to tap into that other side and be seen differently as well by other filmmakers. I had a lot of fun with that character.

 

Q. What was the reaction of your family/friends to seeing you on TV?

A. One of my friends said that every time my character showed up in a scene, she just knew I was going to cause trouble. I also watched some episodes with my family and they would just crack up laughing anytime I showed up. My character was such a pest.

 

 

Q. If you were not playing ‘(June/Jules)’ what other character do you think you would have played in the Life 101 series?

 

A. I would have loved to play "Sade" because I grew up with three (3) brothers and I was the only girl so I would play rough with them. At some point I'm sure my mom was scared that I would be a tomboy so one day she bought me my first purse; "Coach" to be exact and I forgot it at church because I wasn't used to carrying one. Went back to look for it like Twenty (20) minutes later and it was gone!

She would also put makeup on me whenever we had school pictures or a school dance (laughs). I narrowly escaped being a tomboy so I could somewhat relate to Sade's character.

Q. If you were to change one thing in your life, what would that be?

A. Rushing to be an adult. I would go back to my teen years. Adulthood is not as fun as I anticipated when I was younger. Too many responsibilities. Sometimes I don’t want to make “responsible” decisions!

 

Q. What is next for you?

A. This coming year I want to work on producing my own content instead of sitting and waiting for the next job. I produced my first short film last month and it will be available on my YouTube channel soon. So 2018 I will put a lot of my own content out there. I also look forward to collaborating with other young creatives.

Q. What role would you say Malta Guinness played in fueling your greatness and helping you actualize your dreams?

A. I love the fact that Malta Guinness focuses on youths! I feel like we are usually neglected. There's a gap even in the type of shows on TV. I was so happy when I found out "life 101" was a teen show because I always wondered why there's an absence in that market in the media. It's encouraging to keep pushing when you are being backed and you feel represented! Thank you Malta Guinness for putting the spotlight on us.

Q. What is your charge to other Nigerians who are still looking up to actualize their dreams?

A. Work on your passion everyday so that you are prepared when you get that opportunity. I was once told that Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. I live my life on that principle. Even when I'm not on a job, I watch YouTube videos and interviews of other actors, i watch films and study them, I read Acting books and once in a while I will look up monologues online and work on them on my own. Everything I've ever worked on so far prepared me for "Life 101" audition. I probably wouldn't have gotten casted out of the hundreds of talents that showed up if I didn't constantly work on my craft. Always be prepared, don't be caught off guard so you don't miss out on that golden ticket when you get one.

Miss Trans America founder, Christa Leigh Steele-Knudslien is the 1st official transgender person killed in 2018

 A founder of a transgender beauty contest was reportedly killed by her husband last week, making her the first transgender person to be murdered in 2018. Christa Leigh Steele-Knudslien, 42, who founded Miss Pageant America, was found dead at her home in North Adams, Massachusetts on January 5th.

According to medical examiners who were on the scene, Steele-Knudslien suffered a stab wound to her torso and blunt force trauma to her head. Her body was found wrapped in tarp and bedding and tied up in the basement.

Her husband, Mark Steele-Knudslien, 47, has been charged with her murder. When being interviewed on Jan 5, Mark said he’d "snapped" and done "something very bad", during which he also said he struck his wife with a hammer and stabbed her with a knife.   

During a Monday arraignment, Mark Steele-Knudslien pleaded not guilty to the murder charges. He’s set for a pretrial hearing Feb. 7. 

 

In addition to founding the Miss Trans America pageant, Christa Steele-Knudslien also helped launch the Miss Trans New England pageant and was one of the organizers of the first New England Trans Pride march in 2008. Her death sent shockwaves through New England’s LGBTQ community.

May God forgive me - A divorcee nabbed for sodomising 7 boys in Niger State

Abdullahi Haruna,50 from the Nasko community in the Magama local government region of Niger, admitted to having sodomized seven underage boys in the village of Getagi. Haruna would have had regular sex with teens for a long time until he was caught. He would have drugged his victims so that he could have his way with them.


The suspect, who is being held in the police custody, said, 

“I have been into this act for over three years and I cannot explain why am still doing it, but one thing was certain, I know that the police would apprehend me one day.”

Northern City News gathered that Haruna divorced his wife sometime ago and took to defiling young boys in Getagi village.

When asked what led him to the act, Haruna said,

 “I cannot state exactly why I was engaging in the act; I remember that I became involved in it since I divorced my wife.

Did Davido’s Crew Member attacks Lagos Airport Security & Customs Officials

A member of OBO,s crew identified as Kayode attacked officials of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) and the Aviation Security (AVSEC) at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, Sahara Reporters reports.






David reportedly arrived from Dubai on an Emirates flight with a baggage number of 17, which Kayode reportedly refused to allow the checkpoint officers to check.




According to an airport source who spoke to Sahara Reporters, every time David arrives at the airport, he leaves his luggage to the crew to clear, and leaves the terminal to distribute money. People who are coming in need to hand in their tags to the checkpoints for confirmation and verification, the source said. Kayode, however, refused to release the tags, which led to an argument. Sahara Reporters reports that Kayode hit staff at a checkpoint in the face and beat another airport employee in the baggage claim area. He was quickly limited, according to reports, and was taken to "Tango City", where unruly people would be detained before being picked up by the police. While there, Kayode again beat a woman AVSEC official, and another customs official who cut his wrist on an industrial fan. The witness stated that the fight finally caught Davido's attention, and he returned, trying to secure his luggage. However, his luggage was not handed to him like last night.




The eyewitness said:

Whenever Davido arrives the airport, he usually leave his check-in luggage for his aides to clear. Immediately he arrives on a flight, he goes out and will start doling out money outside the terminal.
“Today, he arrived as usual with several luggage and about 17 in all. The rule is that whenever you arrive, you are expected to release your tags to the Checkport staff for confirmation and verification, but rather than comply with the simple rule, one of his aides insisted he won’t allow them to check the tags.
“He rebuffed everyone who were carrying out their lawful duties and resorted to attack the officials. No fewer than four officials were beaten by the person in question with at least two of them soaked in blood.
“When he was uncontrollable, he was bundled into the cell and he insisted that he must be taken to a police station. This however, attracted Davido’s attention who was already out of the terminal. He had to return, but the security officials refused to hand over the luggage to him. One of the luggage we even gathered contained some money in foreign currencies.#Africa ... spill TEA.... Simidele Adeagbo becomes Africa’s First Female Skeleton Athlete to Compete in the Winter Olympics

Nigerian Simidele Adeagbo will be the first African woman to compete in the Skeleton category of the Winter Olympics.

Adeagbo,will join the historic Nigerian bobsled team, qualified after finishing 3rd in her 5th qualifying race. Adeagbo, 36, is currently ranked 84th in the world, although she hit a skeleton sled for the first time in September 2017. She has been a quadruple US champion and triple jump record at the University of Kentucky. She healed but eventually gave up her ambition to compete at the Olympics in 2008. His ambition was revived in 2016, after hearing about a Nigerian bobsleigh team that wanted to compete at the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games in South Korea.


She told ThisDay:

I read an article about how the women had this audacious goal of becoming Africa’s first-ever bobsled team to go to the Winter Olympics. I was super inspired, and instantly thought, I wonder if I could be a part of that?
So, when I saw that, I was thinking, maybe they need a fourth person and maybe that fourth person could be me because there’s a history of track and field athletes going into bobsled.

But after asking the team if she could be the fourth member, she told them that although bobsleigh is a sport for four men, it's a sport for two women. In 2017, another opportunity arose. She saw an Instagram call for essays by the Nigerian Bobsled and Skeleton Federation in Houston, Texas. She packed her bags and went to Houston, arriving the morning of testing and participating in the evening. She received a call from the Federation weeks later, she said, asking her to come to camp in Canada.


She said:

I honestly didn’t know much about the sport, but knew that there was a lot that I could draw from my track and field background to help me succeed in it. You run as fast as you can for about 30 meters to gain momentum before you launch into or onto something.
I was able to pick up the push start very, very quickly because I already had that experience with the runway of triple jump. Where I really have the advantage is only for a very short amount of time, four or five seconds of the race. But the track is a mile long, so the race will last another 50 seconds.

Adeagbo on her Instagram shared the great news that she had qualified for the winter Olympics, writing:

Hello Pyeongchang! I successfully completed my 5th qualifying race with a 3rd place finish! I’m looking forward to representing @bsfnigeria & becoming the first female African Skeleton athlete to compete in the Winter Olympics. Dreams do come true!

Steven Seagal accused of raping extra in 1994

An extra on Steven Seagal’s 1994 “On Deadly Ground” claims the actor raped her during a wrap party.


Regina Simons, who was 18 at the time, told The Wrap that Seagal invited her to his Beverly Hills home in 1993 after production closed on the film, but she was the only person there.

“He took me into this room and then just closed the door and started kissing me,” she said.

“He then took my clothes off and before I knew it he was on top of me, raping me … I wasn’t sexually active yet. People always talk about fight-or-flight. But no one talks about the freeze.”

Simons, now 43 and with two children, claims that she also met Seagal on the day of casting. When she complained of a headache, he offered her a massage.

The second time she met him was at the nonexistent party.

“I asked him where is everyone and he said that they had already left,”

She went on to say that she froze during the alleged rape, but cried during the entire experience.

“The only way I’m able to describe it is I literally felt like I left my body,” she said.
“I think because of the situation I was completely caught off guard. Tears were coming down my face and I know that it hurt. He was three times my size.”

Back Home (then), we had this little-black-and-white-brandless-TV that never showed steady pictures...We always had to slap it hard for it to show properly and each heavy slap only held vice for bout 20mins! I was always exasperated with it!
One Sunday, I rubbed anointing oil on it and Alleluia, the "skoin-skoin" of this toolbox-sized TV ceased and it was perfect picture all day (only on that Sunday)! Then & there, I saw a promo for an audition: New young actors and actresses wanted for the most popular family series back then. (D Executive Producer is late now, Heaven bless her soul!). I was FRIGGING EXCITED. Jotted down d address, went d next day (Monday) to their office in Ikeja, paid 2k for d form & got the Audition dates.

The actual auditioning date was the same day as my Matric. Even before the Matric, I posed with a makeshift gown (cos I couldn't afford one) & raced to Ikeja in my very best ensemble (My Dad's checkered shirt, my best denim pants, borrowed shades and my Yaba-Aba-made trainers that always smelt so bad after I took them off).
I was at the auditioning ground from 10am thru till 7pm waiting for my turn. I honestly didn't mind the long wait...I wanted to be on the show so bad cos I needed the cash, exposure and of course, work. My turn and I went in with all d confidence in d world.
They called in 10 of us & when it was time to act, I nailed it. However, there was an Actor on the panel (very popular at that time) who was eyeing me in disdain. He suddenly started throwing questions at me, perhaps in a bid to make me look stupid or throw me off but i was damn ready for him.
He looked me squarely in the eye and told me, I recall this too well; "YOU WILL NEVER MAKE IT IN THIS INDUSTRY. YOU ARE TALENTLESS AND JUST WASTED OUR TIME. YOU WANT US TO PUT U ONSCREEN? SUCH A DISGRACE". I thought he was reading from d script. Next thing, I was walked out with the others.
D other guys tried consoling me but I left shattered. Trekked from Ikeja to Yaba. Cried all The way home.

Jennifer Hudson's ex David Otunga cleared of domestic abuse allegations

 David Otunga will not be charged for an alleged domestic violence incident.

According to TMZ, the former wrestler was cleared by police in Burr Ridge, Illinois on Thursday.

 The episode in question took place in November. Pastor receives applause after admitting publicly to “Sexual Incident” with High School Student 20 years back

The congregation at Highpoint Church, Memphis, applauded their pastor Andy Savage, after he admitted to a “sexual incident” with a minor 20 years ago, New York Times reports.
The woman had accused him of sexual assault just a few days before Savage decided to admit to his church the offense. The woman, Jules Woodson, wrote that she was 17 years old and that she was in high school when Savage, a youth pastor with her church, sexually assaulted her. He had offered to take her home after driving her to a wooded area and had him blow her a blowjob. Savage only told his church that he had sinned and did not detail what exactly happened. He had taken responsibility for his sin, he said, and had never hidden it from pastors. In Woodson's story, however, she had revealed that Savage had begged her to take the event "to the grave," and she was the one who told the pastors. The pastors, however, did nothing and urged her not to report to the authorities. "Jules, I am deeply sorry for my actions 20 years ago, I remain committed to cooperating with you for forgiveness and healing," Savage told his congregation, the live online service. The congregation had stood up and applauded, the church's pastor, Chris Conlee, coming forward to say that he supported Savage and that he was one of the people who "suffered from the effect of the consequences of this sin ".
Woodson on the other hand revealed to the New York Times that she had texted Savage asking him if he remembered the assault and got no reply from him, before making the story public.


She had thought he would answer, she said, apologize to her, and only after a month of silence, she went public with the story.

This is an increase of $100 million from his worth last year.Dangote is the continental richest for the seventh year in a row.

 Floyd Mayweather got himself in hot water after cracking jokes about the #MeToo Movement, where women share their stories of sexual misconduct, assault, and harassment.

In a brief interview with a Men’s Health reporter, Mayweather was asked

"We're asking a lot of men, in light of the #MeToo movement, how men can grow in 2018,” the reporter asked, to which the boxer replied, "The who?"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“The #MeToo movement. Women speaking out about sexual assault,” she said,

Mayweather said

"When you say 'me too' ... when somebody is like, 'I got a Rolls-Royce, I be like 'me too.' When somebody say they got a private jet, I say, 'Me too. I got two. Me too.'"

Although the reporter tried to explain the movement to Mayweather, he continued to make light of the situation, saying,
