Queen Omotola recounts on 20years of acting @Realomosexy

 In exclusive interview with Encomium, the actress reflects on the past 20 years in the entertainment industry and the controversial movie ‘The Prostitute’ threatened her marriage. 

Read the excerpts below;

On Challenges Encountered:

“When I started out, I got married just about the same time and started having children.  For me, it was a very big challenge because prior to that time, I didn’t know any other actor who had done similar thing that I could call and ask how do I go about it. 

I was also scared of losing my fan base.  I was scared of so many things.  I didn’t even know if I would be able to cope.  And I am sure you’re aware I had my children almost every year (laughs).  So, at a point, I started getting frustrated.

But it got to a point we started to understand the job a little more.  So, personally, it got to a point I felt we can push the envelope further than what we already had in the industry, and my dreams started going wide. 

I started thinking of many ways of changing the career for the better.  So, having to fight my own battle at a time where practically at that time there was no industry, was very difficult because a lot of people didn’t understand what that was about”.

On Career Being A Threat To Marriage:

“No, not seriously.  At least, it was in a way that shook my marriage.  The only time I would say I worried was when the movie, The Prostitute came out.  And that was the first major fresh shaking I had.

It was like a kind of controversy. From the movie poster to the sex scenes, whatever in that movie was shot after I left there, but was shot as if I was the one who did it.  

And you know, Nigeria was not ready for that, so there was a lot of controversies around that.  So, that was the only time I really worried about my marriage.  And to be frank and candid, until my husband told me he wasn’t bothered, then I had peace.”

Read what Director John Singleton shared in an exclusive interview with Grantland

“Ja got too big for himself. He turned it down. He turned down a half a million dollars,” Singleton said. “He got 15 grand to be in the first movie. He was really big at that time. I guess Murder Inc. was throwing out hits and were making money hand over foot.

He was acting like he was too big to be in the sequel. He wouldn’t return calls. I went to the studio to go see him — that’s just my mantra, I deal with a lot of music people. He was kinda playing me to the side and I was like, ‘What? What is this shit?’ This was all initiated by me.

I then made a call. I called Ludacris. I said, ‘Hey, Luda, I haven’t met you before, but I like what you’re doing right now.’ Luda was all humble, excited to meet me. I said, ‘I’m doing this movie and I’m wondering if you want to be a part of it.’ He goes, ‘What? Yeah! Anything you do I want to be a part of.’

That’s how Ludacris got in 2 Fast 2 Furious, and the rest is history.”

Ja Rule became Ludacris. Edwin became Tej. The Fast and the Furious went from potential franchise to the 16th-highest-grossing franchise in history. Ludacris would go on to appear in Crash and Hustle & Flow — and three more Fast & Furious films.

“Ja Rule not doing 2 Fast 2 Furious changed Ludacris’s life,” Singleton said. “Years later I saw Ja Rule at the Source Awards and we joked about it. I took him under my arm and said, ‘Man, when I call you, you listen. I ain’t calling you for no bullshit.’ He said, ‘Yeah, man, I’m sorry about that.’ He apologized.

“I met my husband at age 27. That was at my best friend’s engagement then. I was serving and making sure everyone was okay and well taken care of, attending to people and all that. And then his father saw me and then said ‘I have a son and I will like you to meet my son.’ So I said no problem sir. He said ‘good, my son will soon come in.’

                                
“When he came, we introduced ourselves. We met. We exchanged our numbers and that was it. We took it off from there. He was cool, he looked cool-headed. He was friendly. He had no airs about him. He was a simple fellow. He was already working then as a lawyer.

“He was at Sofunde, Belgore & Co. He clicked with my sisters too. He was always going to parties with them. He was bubbling with them. I didn’t use to go to parties with them. Since my sisters accepted him, I had no choice but to accept him,” she said.

The couple got married at a Catholic church as she’s Christian. Even after 22 years of marriage they still practice their different religions, and their children practice both,


“But ever since then my husband has practiced his religion and I have practiced mine. There is no trouble whatsoever. My husband has his own part of the house where he prays, I have my own altar there with my crucifix and my rosary and everything and everyone is minding their own business. When its time for family prayer, we pray. I pray mine to the name of Jesus Christ while he prays in Allah’s name & the children understand all that. My children are baptized and they go to church. When he wants them to go to mosque with him they go to the mosque with him.”

On how she feels about her portrayal on RHOA this season:
“I feel this is one of the best seasons because it shows who I really am. I have people around that genuinely know and love me.”

On her feelings regarding Phaedra and Apollo:
“I definitely feel redeemed from the feud with Apollo and Phaedra.” This was quite evident with the airing of Sunday’s show with Kenya and Phaedra making amends and hopefully slowing working to build a better friendship. Only time will tell.
On fans considering her and Cynthia to be an unlikely pair:
“How so? We’re both models/beauty queens that love fashion, worked in New York, and know most of the same people.” Now that things have changed between Cynthia and Nene, it’s been a lot easier to develop a deeper friendship for Kenya. “You no longer have someone constantly telling you who to be friends with and to choose.”
On if she thinks Nene will ever cut a check to Detroit Public Schools:
“No, I don’t think so. People can see the type of person she is. She used it to show the world how disgusting and evil she is. Why would you shortchange some kids because you want to be in a pissing contest with someone?”
