Kamala Harris To Meet With Jamaican Prime Minister To Improve Bilateral And Caribbean Regional Relations

#jaiyeorie  The 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries will be marked by the bilateral meeting in Washington, which will be the first by a Jamaican prime minister since 1995.

According to the Miami Herald, it's designed to "underscore the importance" of US-Jamaica connections, as well as the Caribbean area, to the Biden administration.

"During this visit and in the months and years ahead," the official said, "the vice president looks forward to expanding this partnership."
"Our collaboration in our Hemisphere is founded on substantial economic and people-to-people ties, as well as shared interests."

The COVID-19 epidemic, economic development and recovery, environment and energy security were among the topics on Harris' agenda for the summit.
The COVID-19 epidemic, economic growth and recovery, as well as climate and energy security were all on Harris' agenda for the summit.

The Jamaican Herald said that the prime minister planned to discuss national security and investment support with Harris, citing a Jamaican official source.

The Biden administration is attempting to strengthen ties with the Caribbean Community as a whole (also known as CARICOM).

Harris visited with Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley in October.
According to the Herald, securing low-interest loans from international monetary organizations to offset the pandemic's impact on tourism, growing gasoline costs, and political instability in Haiti are among the most pressing challenges facing CARICOM countries.

Harris traces her ancestors to the Caribbean island through her father, Donald Harris, a Jamaican economist.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the vice president visited the country as a child and spent time there with relatives.
In her memoirs, Harris revealed how her mother, an immigrant from India, taught her and her sister, Maya Harris, to be "Black girls" because that was how America would regard their ethnic identity.

The United States should improve its relations with the Caribbean islands.
