Deadline reports that the 25th entry in the James Bond franchise, No Time to Die, has earned $368 million internationally and $474 million with the domestic box office counted, making it the second-highest grossing film of 2021 worldwide. The film now trails behind F9.
A summary of the film success report, as shared by Complex, said:
No Time To Die has already become the highest-grossing 007 film of all-time in Hong Kong, Ukraine, Argentina, Paraguay and Egypt. The numbers will continue to roll in for the Cary Joji Fukunaga-directed flick, as it’s set to be released in China and Australia on October 29 and November 11, respectively.
After No Time to Die was pushed back for a fourth time in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, MGM reportedly explored moving the highly-anticipated film to a streaming service. The studio proposed a one-year lease worth $600 million to Amazon, Apple, and Netflix, but none of them agreed to meet them halfway to their asking price.
While MGM failed to find a suitor for their benchmark film, the studio was acquired by Amazon earlier this year for $8.45 billion, netting the budding streamer a robust library consisting of 4,000 movies and 17,000 hours of TV.
And speaking about the deal, Mike Hopkins, senior vice president of Prime Video and Amazon Studios, said in a statement: “The real financial value behind this deal is the treasure trove of IP in the deep catalog that we plan to reimagine and develop together with MGM’s talented team. It’s very exciting and provides so many opportunities for high-quality storytelling.”
