Boris Johnson says 'let the healing begin' in No 10 speech after election win

Boris Johnson promises to deliver Brexit in January and claims NHS is top priority after landslide win

Boris Johnson says it is time to "let the healing begin" - holding out an olive branch to remainers in his first speech outside Number 10 after a thumping election win.

The Prime Minister promised a break from politics and Brexit over Christmas.

And thanked non-Conservatives for lending him their votes in last night's decisive victory over Labour .

Mr Johnson said it was time for the country to go through a period of "closure" after a divisive period since the European referendum in 2016.

He told Remain voters he wanted them to know a "One Nation" Conservative Government would "never ignore" the "positive feelings of warmth and sympathy towards the other nations of Europe".

The Prime Minister added: "I frankly urge everyone on either side of what are, after three-and-a-half years, a frequently arid argument, I urge everyone to find closure and to let the healing begin."
