“Generations” was a revenue ratings blockbuster for the SABC, earning as much as 500 million rand (US$42.5 million) per year, EqualTimes reports.Actors reportedly earned 30,000-to-60,000 rand ($2500-to-$5000 US per month).
“Generations” actors said they feel exploited and insecure. Vundla said they were among South Africa’s highest-paid actors and were being unreasonable and spoiled.
Many South African soap actors have to take second jobs such as voice overs or run businesses in order to live comfortably, according to the report.
