The Delta State Chapter of the Democratic People's Party issued nominations for female politicians who would run for an electoral position at the forthcoming local government elections in 2018 in a non-nationalized state. However, the party tied the form of nomination for male presidency candidates to N1 million and N200, 000 for counseling candidates. The party said the decision was to encourage women in the state to actively participate in politics. Speaking at a news conference in Asabia on Saturday, PDOR President Olorogun, Kingsley Esiso, found that the party also led its chapters of local self-government to reserve at least three candidate positions for women candidates. Esedo said the funding for the nomination was irreversible.
The PDP chairman, however, stressed that the party would not discourage any aspirant from obtaining the nomination forms, especially those who are not satisfied with the outcome of the consensus arrangement or mock primaries.
He said, “Mock primaries or/and consensus arrangement are geared toward reaching a common ground and avoiding unnecessary spending of money by aspirants.
“We have asked our leaders to harmonise in their various wards. But that does not stop anybody who is not satisfied with the outcome of such arrangement from obtaining nomination forms to contest the party’s primaries.”
The elections will hold on January 6, 2018.
