After being re-elected for a second term as French president, Emmanuel Macron has achieved history.
After defeating his far-right opponent, Marine Le Pen, on Sunday, he becomes the first president in 20 years to win re-election.
According to Reuters, shouts erupted as the results were displayed on a huge screen at the Champ de Mars park, which is located at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, where Macron supporters waved French and EU flags.
"Macron" was chanted as people hugged each other.
Macron will join a select group: only two previous French presidents have been re-elected to a second term.
However, his margin of victory appears to be narrower than when he defeated Le Pen for the first time in 2017, highlighting how many French remain unsatisfied with him.
