Veteran Nigerian music producer ID Cabasa, born Olumide Ogunade, has stirred conversation with his recent remarks emphasizing the necessity of a business mindset for musicians. 

During a candid discussion at Toopsoul Studio, Cabasa passionately highlighted the evolving landscape of the Nigerian music industry, urging artists to elevate their approach to the business of music creation. He pointed out that talent alone is no longer sufficient in a competitive market; artists must embrace entrepreneurship to thrive.

 

 Cabasa’s insights have sparked a debate about the balance between artistic expression and commercial viability, leaving many to ponder: in a world where streams and sales reign supreme, will musicians have to trade their guitars for calculators to survive?

“You need to come into the industry with much more and not just as an artist. Also, you have to be business-minded. Not just the business of making music but with the sense of making money with it.”

The Nigerian music producer noted that artists should learn to make appropriate choices while signing record contracts.

“One of the good things that God has given you is choice. You have a choice to either stay back or stand up and walk away. It is not the business that is having the problem but our mindset.”
