The deputy governor of Lagos, Mr Obafemi Hamzat is in a fresh citizenship controversy after documents of his renounciation of his allegiance to Nigeria, and his subsequent naturalization as a citizen of the United States of America has been presented by investigative Journalist, David Hundeyin after his petition to Homeland Security was granted. This puts Mr Hamzat's current position and that of his boss, Babajide Sanwo-Olu as deputy governor & governor of Lagos state respectively, at stake owing to the fact that it is an aberration of Nigeria's constitution for a non-citizen to occupy any electable position within the country. Prior to his thrilling performance at the 23rd BET Awards on Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, the singer made the remark.

A mashup of his popular songs "Feel" and "Unavailable" from his most recent album, "Timeless," was performed by the artist.

The audience began to bounce and stream during his dazzling performance.

His performance made him the second Nigerian artiste to perform at “Culture’s Biggest Night” after Fireboy DML who performed last year, riding on the wave of ‘Peru’.

Earlier in a side interview with Billboard’s Neena Rouhani, Davido discussed the explosive surge of afrobeats in the USA.

He said, “I feel good performing tonight. It should be big. It should be amazing; it’s the first time I’m performing at the [BET] Awards, and I’m excited.”

“I remember when I used to live in America as an African, in Atlanta and in Alabama for a while. I used to share [African] music, play music for my American friends and they love it. So, I always knew if we had the opportunity to be heard, eventually it [afrobeats explosion] would happen.

Grammy-nominated musician, Femi Kuti, has recalled schooling was “depressing” for him for being the son of the late Afrobeats legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

The multi-talented instrumentalist said some teachers and fellow students attempted to bully and shame him over his father’s excesses but he refused to be bullied.

Femi made this known in an interview with popular media personality, Chude Jideonwo.

He said: “School was a very depressing time for me because you’ve teachers that liked my dad Fela and teachers that didn’t like him.

“So, if I got into trouble with a teacher that didn’t like him, that teacher will just beat me because he didn’t like my father. I later came to the realization that they had a vendetta against my father.

“Don’t forget, the elite’s children were in the school. So, you have the rich children in the same school and they didn’t like me because I was Fela’s son. They would say, ‘your father smokes igbo (Indian hemp), your father is pant.’ And I would reply, ‘your father too is a slave.’

“My mouth was like a razor blade. If you abuse my father, by the time I abuse you, you will cry”.

IGP Egbetokun appoints Tunji Disu principal officer, unveils policing strategy

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has appointed Commissioner of Police Tunji Disu as his Principal Staff Officer.

Egbetokun announced Disu’s appointment while unveiling the new policing strategies for the Nigeria Police Force.

The IGP publicised the new strategy aimed at achieving operational successes and re-igniting public trust during the inaugural conference with strategic police managers, comprising members of the Force Management Team, assistant inspectors general of police, commissioners of police, and other heads of police formations in the country, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday.

A statement by the Force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the IGP also appointed CSP Ganiyu Adebowale as Personal Assistant (PA-IGP), SP Adewale Ajibuwa as Chief Protocol Officer (CPO-IGP), DSP Sheriff Lawal as Aide-de-Camp (ADC-IGP), and DSP Olawole Ogunwusi as Chief Security Officer (CSO-IGP).

“The Inspector General of Police reassures citizens that the Nigeria Police Force under his command will symbolise excellence, integrity, and compassion.

“He urged the citizens to collaborate with the Police to shape a future where justice triumphs, the vulnerable find solace, citizens go about their lawful businesses without fear of insecurity or molestation, and where every citizen can truly believe in the power of law enforcement,” he said.

 Yvonne Nelson, a popular movie actor from Ghana, has revealed shocking facts about some of her experiences there.

In her much-discussed book, Nelson revealed that occasionally, attending gatherings like birthday parties and other events was more profitable for her than acting in Ghanaian movies.

The well-known actress alleged that the "Giant of Africa" had party hosts who were willing to shell out enormous sums of money to hire particular celebrities simply to attend.

She believed that the appearance of these rented guests was likely a strategy used by them to demonstrate their social standing or even class.

“There were people who held parties and were prepared to pay you to attend just to enhance their status or show their class.

“The array of celebrities that attended someone’s party showed who they were.

“And being present at someone’s birthday or some other celebratory event sometimes paid me more than acting in a movie in Ghana,” she wrote.
