#jaiyeorie Former Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen has praised former captain Mikel Obi, who announced his retirement from professional football on September 27.
Mikel Obi, according to Eguavoen, is one of the best players he has ever coached.
He stated on Instagram that coaching the former Chelsea star at the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2003, AFCON 2006, and AFCON 2008 was an honor.
Mikel Obi's progression from a young footballer who competed in the U17 World Cup in Finland to winning the Champions League Final in Munich in 2012, and then the AFCON final a year later in South Africa, according to Eguavoen, is nothing short of amazing.
He further enjoined Mikel to “enjoy the good life”.
Eguavoen wrote;
“To one of the greatest players I ever coached. Congratulations on your retirement, John Mikel Obi.
“An honor coaching you at the FIFA U17 World Cup 2003, AFCON 2006 & AFCON 2008.
“Your growth as a young boy from the U17 World Cup in Finland, going all the way to triumph at the Champions League Final in Munich in 2012 & then the AFCON final a year later in South Africa is nothing but inspirational.
“You played it all, and won it all. Incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved.
“Enjoy the good life.”
