The story of a 70-year old man, who married a 15-year old girl, has got people talking on social mediaabout child marriage and calling on the government for intervention.
According to DAILY NIGERIAN, the wedding, which took place in Niger State, had the attendance of family and friends. Mr. Chanji, the 70-year old man is said to have gotten his nickname from his numerous divorces and replacement of wives.
Sadly, he is quoted to be a philanthropist because he ‘contributed immensely to the building of the community mosque.’
This story is coming at a time when people are advocating against child marriage, especially in the north, where it is rampant.
Unfortunately, some people still hold the belief that their religion permits it if the parents of the bride gives their consent.
This twitter user’s comment has been slammed by people, who insists that the marriage between the old man and the young girl is not right and should be annulled, as some argue otherwise.
