Mauritania has never been classified by the African Nations Cup, is among the 15 countries that could reach places in the 2019 tournament this weekend.
A team led by French coach Corentin Martins will be sure to end the first two in Group I and the qualification if they defeat Botswana in Nouakchott.
The Mauritanians, whose team includes players from local clubs, other African countries, Europe and the Middle East, have various psychological advantages over their opponents.
They traveled to the nation of South Africa for the first round of qualification in June last year and won 1-0 through a goal by Abdallahi Soudani. Although Mauritania has won three of four games in a group completed by Burkina Faso and Angola, Botswana has lost three, has left and has not achieved a unique goal in 360 minutes.
A look at record books will bring more sadness to the Botswana, as the only previous visit to the Nations Cup in Nouakchott resulted in a 4-0 that was hidden 12 years ago.
Another French coach, Patrice Neveu, transformed Mauritania from attacking the boys to their formidable opponents by classifying them for the African African Championship 2013 for home-based players. Under Martins, they surprises South Africa in a 2017 Nations Cup title and played two-time African five-year champions in Cameroon near the same group.
Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Congo, Gabon or Mali, Guinea, Guinea Bissau or Namibia, Côte d'Ivoire, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe could also take refuge. Cameroon are automatic participants as hosts from the end of June 15 through July 13 and Madagascar, for the first time, Egypt, Senegal and Tunisia have achieved slots during the 4th day.
South Africa needs a win and Nigeria has emerged from a clash of former E group champions in Soweto to have some qualifications after losing the 2017 tournament. An injury disposed in Nigeria, Odion Ighalo, while Sud- Africa chose Thulani Serero, who rejected several previous calls because a place of exit was not guaranteed.
- Pharaohs seek revenge: both countries will reach the final positions regardless of the result if they lose Libya in the Seychelles, the world ranking 188 is the lowest among the 48 teams in the competition. Egypt against Tunisia in Alexandria is another high-profile team, although they have already booked final sites of Group J.
Some of the stars of the winners of the CAF Champions League, Esperance of Tunisia and runners-up Al Ahly of Egypt, have been selected so that the Pharaohs seek revenge for a defeat of 1-0 at Rades. Guinea and Uganda will be assured of places among the 24 finalists in Cameroon, as long as they are not lost at home. Guinea's coach, born in Belgium, Paul Put, shot midfielder Seydouba Soumah, who was accused of "lack of commitment" in front of the clash of the upper H Group with the Ivory Coast.
Ivorians, the second title of the Nations Cup came three years ago, will miss the Crystal Palace fan, Wilfried Zaha, as they assume a team that beat 3-2 in Bouake. Uganda shares with South Africa the record of not having conceded a goal in 2019 and qualifying the price of goalkeeper Denis Onyango among the best in Africa.
The 'Grulles' will be sure to secure at least one point against Cape Verde in Kampala after defeating the small island state of 1-0 with Geoffrey Sserunkuma snatching a final goal. If Uganda triumphs, Tanzania, the only previous appearance of the Nations Cup 38 years ago, can be accompanied by group K collecting maximum points in Lesotho.
A Mali team that does not have Brighton midfielder available, Yves Bissouma, will pass through Group C if he completed a double on Gabon after winning 2-1 at Bamako. For Gabon, the captain of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, to choose, must succeed in Libreville and hope that third place in Burundi loses Sudan without any sense to Juba. Remaining victories for Algeria and Benin on Togo and Gambia, respectively, will qualify for Group D, while Zimbabwe needs a tie in Liberia to advance from Group G.
