Rinsola Abiola Set For the Abeokuta North/Odeda/Obafemi Owode Constituency Seat in the House of Representatives

Rinsola Abiola Is Ready To Run For the Abeokuta North/Odeda/Obafemi Owode Constituency Seat in the House of Representatives Rinsola Abiola, a daughter of the late Bashorun MKO Abiola, has declared her intentions to run for the Abeokuta North federal constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the flag of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the 2019 elections.

In a statement released on her twitter page, Rinsola said that the decision to run was informed by the deep connection she feel towards her people and the strong conviction that they deserve dutiful representation.

Noting that she had spent most of her formative years in Ogun state and had been voting in her hometown since she became eligible to vote, Rinsola said she would address the infrastructure needs of her people if elected into power.
Rinsola’s political participation began in late 2013. Her decision to join mainstream politics was informed by a desire to be part of the process rather than criticizing it.
She joined the All Progressive Congress (APC) and became the Public Relations consultant.  She headed the party’s young women forum; was appointed a board member of the Young Women in Politics Forum and a Youth Representative for the APC Board of Trustees.
She also served as a Special Assistant to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, for three years. However, after a 5-year journey in APC, Rinsola left the party in August 2018, stating that it was not youth-friendly.

Rinsola, who is known for her advocacy for youth and women inclusion in politics, said that after the Not Too Young To Run Bill, which allows young people to vie for elective positions, was passed into law, she approached some leaders of APC of her intentions to run for an elective office but she was told not to.
”I began consultations in October 2017 but have now concluded that while legal constraints may have been done away with, there are greater challenges that we all must contend with. Apart from the usual issues like funding and violence, undemocratic dictates which are now (erroneously) viewed as the norm also pose a serious challenge. I have been told in no unclear terms that I “must not run”, that I “should not even consider it”, and that there are “consequences for disobedience,” Guardian reported.
A month after she left the APC, she joined the ADP  and made her intentions known.
If elected, Rinsola’s area of focus “shall include healthcare, agriculture, youth and women empowerment and restructuring through constitution amendment.”
