Nigerian Court Wants Total Abstinence Or Faithfulness Is The Best Option Written In All Condom Adverts

Judge Taofiquat Oyekan-Abdullahi of the Lagos High Court said that condoms are not 100% effective and that total abstinence or fidelity is the best option.  The Judge, in her thoughtful judgment which was the result of the mutual agreement of both parties to the lawsuit, found that the Respondent would continue to insert the APCON Health Risk Warning clause as follows: " The condom is not 100% safe Total abstinence or fidelity is the best option in all condom advertising. Judge Oyekan-Abdullahi also ordered that condom commercials be broadcast only from 6 am to 8 pm on the radio and from 6 pm to 10 pm on television.  Taking a decision in a complaint filed by the incorporated directors of the Project for Human Development (PHD) against the Family Health Society (SFH), the judge also ruled that condoms are not 100% effective and that abstinence total or fidelity is the best option.  PHD had in the lawsuit filed through his lawyer, Sonnie Ekwowusi of Sonnie Ekwowusi and Co, among other reliefs, asked the court to declare that the advertising of the condom 'Gold Circle' by SFH in a national newspaper without the clause The Council of Advertising Practitioners of Nigeria (APCON), according to which the product "is not 100% safe but total abstinence or fidelity is the best option", is illegal and unconstitutional.
