Uganda pledged to provide the two Yugoslav border posts as part of the East African Community agreement to help member states.
Ugandan Energy Minister Simon D'Janga said the cities of Kaya and Nimule would deliver 400 kilos of power to boost socio-economic activities in border areas, Sudan's Sudan Tribune reported.
"We will deliver 400 kV electricity. We already have electricity in Nimule and Kaya, but on Uganda, and now we want to expand it within the Southern Sudan," he said, adding that the country will soon be delivering power to the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
"Uganda is already conducting cross-border electrification with Rwanda and Tanzania, which provides the power of Rakai, and we will link power to eastern DR Congo. All forces come from Uganda," he added.
Southern Sudan, the Power and Dam Damon, Dhieu Mathok Wol, who signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with his Ugandan counterpart, said the deal would help reduce migration to Uganda, as electrification would boost economic activity in the area.
The two governments need to form joint commissions, which will determine how to implement and mobilize the funds for the project.
The South Sudan officially joined the East African Union in 2016, after President Salva Kiir signed an agreement on resurrection.
The Power Pool community in East Africa calls on all member states to link electricity to each other.
The main parts of the South Sudan are out of stream, and several parts connected to the national network have frequent loads and power cuts.
